OK, after freaking the bejaysus out of me with the weird trailer / advert I am intrigued and looking forward to giving this programme a viewing.

(I will have to record and watch later as I will be watching Messrs Strange and Norrell.)

Anyone else looking forward to it and hoping it lives up to the hype?

Personally, I don't think they were once people, that would be impossible to conceal, but maybe they have the minds of people, or at least selected memories downloaded into synths. The former was done in that Jonny Depp movie and the later in Blade Runner.

I'd like to think it is something else, something not yet done, that the creator 'father' figure has found a way to make them think for themselves, but that is a bit Star Trek 'Mr Data' so I am not sure there is any scenario not yet done when it comes to androids!

My money is on these being real memories of the robots real experiences but that the emotional element means they are able to be influenced by these memories, which normal synths would not. Just a guess.

I watched the 1st episode and loved it. I missed the 2nd one and it doesn't seem available on catch up.

Loving this program. My theory is they were humans who died and were then converted into robots, hence the hidden memories and emotions. Kind of like memory is still there on a laptop even if you delete it, if you are knowledgeable and dig deep enough the original files are still there.

So who is Tom?

Furball we don'tknow who Tom is. Theories? A son who died? An ex-boy friend? Mattie's real dad? Not sure.
