OK, after freaking the bejaysus out of me with the weird trailer / advert I am intrigued and looking forward to giving this programme a viewing.

(I will have to record and watch later as I will be watching Messrs Strange and Norrell.)

Anyone else looking forward to it and hoping it lives up to the hype?

I thought Niska's reaction to the man in the photo might mean he was involved in placing her in the brothel, unless I missed an earlier explanation for this, her shock/anger would fit.

notthestereotype · 15/07/2015 15:33

I stoped watching after the second episode, cos I was worried I was going to get really dark and Anita would also be turned into a sex slave. Does it get darker in the third episode? Don't want to give up on it permanently.

If the conscious synths are 14 years old, Laura is too old to have been involved in the lake accident. She would have been married with children (which surely means she can't be a synth).

SoupDragon · 15/07/2015 16:29

Synths being seen as far game for sex makes me a bit uncomfortable

I thought that was covered well when Laura was horrified at Joe saying sex with Anita was the same as using a sex toy.

gingercat12 · 15/07/2015 17:07

notthestereotype It is getting darker, but more as in thought-provoking. Anita is not being turned into a sex-slave, although sex, its consequences and consent are all being examined. "She is raising our our children and you think she is a sex toy?" is a direct quote. I suppose the whole series questions the definition of "human".

Hope Odi was found by Leo or his brother.

Ulysses · 15/07/2015 20:19

Soupdragon George says that he worked on the first prototype synths 25 years ago, so while there's not a connection between Laura/Tom and the lake incident perhaps there is one from earlier on when they were children?

IUseAnyName · 15/07/2015 20:51

I really hope that wasn't odi on the table :(
I also hope Niska doesn't kill george!
Still wondering why Anita took Sophie out in the rain?

LatinForTelly · 15/07/2015 21:49

I've been watching on catch-up so haven't looked for a thread til now - glad to have found you.

I am wondering whether the detective synth is a product of the third scientist in the picture; George told Niska third guy had argued with the main guy too, but I think said, was also interested in consciousness?

IUseAnyName · 15/07/2015 21:57

I also think that maybe max was the 1st concsious synth and didnt quite turn out perfectly which is why he needs looking after?

MadeMan · 15/07/2015 23:55

I like the Max character.

Rummikub · 16/07/2015 01:42

I thought the man, who was upset at the destruction of Fred, felt it was a lost opportunity to research the conscious synths.

SoupDragon · 16/07/2015 07:24

I don't think Max is necessarily imperfect. I think they were perhaps all created with different personality traits. Niska is violent, Max is Kind, Police Officer is efficient... Not seen enough of Fred and Mia yet. Maybe they were all created like that to isolate those traits so a balanced Synth could be made.

Leo seems to be everything and thus more human (although he appears to be hybrid - synth brain to replace the real vegetative brain?)

IUseAnyName · 16/07/2015 08:32

That could be true soup :) makes sense!

SoupDragon · 16/07/2015 09:04

And thus is probably nonsense :o

gingercat12 · 16/07/2015 09:50

I think Mia was raising Leo as a nanny. Leo was only 9 when he died, wasn't he? At no point did they mention his Mom. That would explain Anita's strong bond with the children later. She obviously saved Leo from the car, but was too late. I hope she is not his Mom, their relationship seems too sensual.

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 16/07/2015 09:55

Ooh I knew there'd be a Humans thread. I'm really, really enjoying it. And so is DH who usually only exclusively watches crime dramas or anime!

I'm confused about Anita taking Sophie out into the rain.

And why they couldn't bring Mia back when Matilda took her to Leo. What happened there? Is it because Leo didn't let Matilda do her thing, or was it as a result of her memory being fiddled with to cover up the 'adult' activation?

Love George's character.

SheHasAWildHeart · 16/07/2015 12:10

Am sure Leo said he was "in love" with Mia so they are/were in a relationship?

IUseAnyName · 16/07/2015 12:21

osten i think when the adult mode was activated it gave anita synth extra security so they're struggling to break through it.

MissBattleaxe · 16/07/2015 12:25

I think Leo is human with synth aspects that saved his life i.e a bit bionic. I think he and Mia were in love so she wasn't a mother figure. I think the plot will return to what Matilda could do to free Mia. I reckon she will hold the key and Leo just thought that if he couldn't free her, then it wasn't possible. But I reckon Matilda will do it in the end!

I love seeing Colin Morgan on the telly again!

gingercat12 · 16/07/2015 12:45

I realise Mia is his love interest now, but Leo was a small child and Mia an adult woman when they first met - is what I am trying to say. We all go eurghhh at Matilda's smitten teenage brother, but he is older than Leo was when Anita / Mia saved his life.

Anyway, I am ashamed to say I want more screen time for Leo. Might also convince DS to watch Merlin with me Blush.

Realistically Matilda would be a great match for Leo if Mia is lost.

Ellle · 16/07/2015 12:54

I'm with gingercat12, I also think Mia was raising Leo as a nanny and tried to save Leo from the car but was too late.
This is why Anita keeps saying that she will always protect Laura's children.

I think what Leo said was "I love her", not that they were in love or in a relationship. Although everything points to them having a strong bond and possibly being in a relationship.

Ulysses · 16/07/2015 13:09

I think Mia was Leo's nanny and they are now in a relationship and throws in another element of the eternal synth/ageing human relationship dynamic.

Colin Morgan has grown into a fine young man, hasn't he?!

TweeBee · 16/07/2015 14:40

Ooh lots of interesting theories!

oneowlgirl · 16/07/2015 18:19

Loving the theories Grin
