The theory I was alluding to was Syrio Forel still being alive. There are 2 strands to this theory (and it is very much a theory, with flaws in it, but one that could be true. The first strand is that Syrio is Jacquen, which is a theory I personally believe. However, the other strand goes 'Meryn Trant wouldn't have let Syrio live, Syrio wouldn't let Trant live and we know Trant was alive after they fought. Therefore if Syrio is still alive he must have 'faceless man' changed into Trant and has been living as him ever since.'

Problem is that Trant is a scumbag whereas Syrio rules! For that theory to be true we have to believe Syrio did some bad things under the guise of Trant - and this week was the worst of it. Therefore I strongly doubt the 'Syrio as Trant' theory as I don't think they'd push the fans that much to have them forced to believe Syrio could be so awful.

I think Serio (as lovely as he was) would be insignificant to Trant-just another kill.
I'm purposely not reading the "I'm not watching" threads. Ffs, so far we've had- incest, child murder, exposure (in the Ancient Greek sense) of babies, sexual violence, religious persecution and burning, abuse of women (am I missing anything?) very violent death in various manners. So really this is just another facet of the breakdown and barbarism of this (fictional) society.(and generally the cunts have got theirs, so natural justice)

I'm from the 'Syrio is dead' school of thought. I may be overthinking this, but as far as I know, the Faceless Men can only change their faces. Syrio was quite a short man, whereas Jaqen is pretty much average height as far as I can tell.

I managed to avoid the spoilers (had to avoid most of the internet for 24h) and have just watched episode 9. I thought it was really good, moved a lot of plots along in contrast to so much focus on Hardhome last week.

Ponyo - I think Jaqen knows she is lying and there will be consequences. I think Syrio is dead personally but would be lovely if he was jaqen, but really don't buy into this theory.
As a book reader I'm beginning to enjoy the series more now I don't know what's coming up (whereas it was annoying me earlier in the series where it was deviating so much). Its nice being nervous about what's coming and not being able to predict, although I did watch the scene with Shireen hiding in another room (well not actually watched, more listened!).

I've got a short list for who I think the 3 dragon riders will be or more like who I'd like the 3 riders to be.

I've got an idea of the first two dragon riders, Dany + 1 but I'm not sure about the third.

Sorry this is probably a really basic question. I've read the books as far as they go. What is the deal with the series now? Will it just keep going making stuff up that may or may not be in the books? Or do we just accept that the books and the series are two separate things now?

Polly, apparently grrm has given the show writers main points and they are making their own way to the planned book ending. So there will be divergence in terms of which characters do what and who died when but mostly it will end the same way.
