TENNIS Thread! The French Open is coming- will it be #RG10 for Rafa?

Raahh · 18/05/2015 16:19

or number 1 for Djokovic?

given recent form, things look less than great for Nadal-but he likes the big stage and slams are a different beast to other tournaments.

So- new thread to talk ( mostly) about tennis- though it's not compulsory.Grin, and we all have different favourites and respect that others might not love our favourites as much as we do.

so...a week to go. May Murray be less tired, Rafa more confident , and a happy tournament be had by all.

Vamos

Yy, Grouchy.

GrouchyKiwi · 28/05/2015 16:31

Andy losing his way. Haven't seen any of the great shots from the first set.

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2015 16:31

MrsV you sound like you know what you are doing with dogs. I could do with you in my house to sort out DramaDog. Bonkers, attention seeking springer who makes sure we know exactly what she wants & does her best to make us do it - and usually succeeds Grin. She's got more spoiled since our old springer had to be pts a couple of months ago.

I like the sound of those nobbly bowls - might stop her hoovering up her food so fast.

Grouchy your DD sounds adorable.

Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:32

Injured? Bet he isn't- it's all tactics Grin

He used to get injured a lot in the early days- always having medical time outs. As did Murray. It's a wonder they have survived this long.

Did Murray pull a Monfils, do we think? Lost the set to go on to race through the next two?

Come on Sousa!

no idea what it is in Portuguese

Thank you, Drama. Makes me think that maybe the lessons on sharing with her baby sister are finally getting through!

Feel like the commentators are really bigging up Andy. They should just talk about what they can see instead of all this useless supposition. It's something I hate about all commentators.

Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:41

Grouchy- very true.
If Sousa goes on to win this, they are going to feel quite daft.

I liked it the year Murray didn't play- they had to discuss the matches and the players they were watching. All though, they did manage to shoe horn a mention of him every so often. Hmm

OP posts:
MrsVamos · 28/05/2015 16:43

Not really, Drama. Smile

It usually comes down, like I've said, to consistency and keep repeating. Keeping things 'fun' but being firm. No hitting, but sharp strong clear tones, and as clear as you can boundaries.

Lots of interesting, and different toys, so they learn to amuse themselves. Different textures. Goes for food too. Make them think, and work, but make it fun.

Make sure they know when you mean business !

Bonnie got a bit silly after our old boy died. I think they must feel the loss just as much if not more than we do.

I'd like to have gotten her a friend, I think they are less demanding that way sometimes, because they have someone else to be with.

Just not practical now after DHs accident and injury. Too many pennies too.Sad

I think you have to be careful introducing another one too. There's that funny inbetween years time where they get used to being the only dog, and would be less accepting of a pup, but getting a pup with too old can be distressing for them, as much as it helps to teach a pup the ways of the house etc...

We lost our boy in 2013, and it still doesn't feel 'right' being a one dog household.

Always a dilemma !

Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:46

what is going on??

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:47

what are they going on about? I missed it.

Is it the time thing again?

OP posts:
MrsVamos · 28/05/2015 16:47

Another one fed up of the blatant fawning too. Hmm

Petchey talk about what he can see ? Don't you have to know about tennis to do that ?!

Time violations are getting stupid.

Sort it out !

Feel its actually being abused by certain umpires. Angry

MrsVamos · 28/05/2015 16:49

Its clearly a problem especially at Slams.

Either apply it to all players fairly, have an alarm so players know, or GET RID OF IT !

Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:50

I don't think 20 seconds is long enough anyway- especially when they have come from tournaments with 25 second breaks.

They are proper moany these two, aren't they? The Beeb wouldn't stand for itGrin

DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2015 16:51

Thanks for the tips MrsV. She's lovely, but wilful & you are right about her needing boundaries.

We really do need to get another dog. DDog has now lost both her elderly companions in the space of a year, and I'm sure she misses them. DH is on the lookout for another working springer pup. Apparently his brother is going to breed from his bitch soon, so we'll probably get one of the litter.

Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:51

Sousa is not phased, which is good.

DD2 keeps shouting 'Come on Elsa!'

too much Frozen

well- back to normal for Murray there.

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/05/2015 16:57

I am really enjoying watching Sousa.

Murray trying to make friends. I'm not fooledGrin

OP posts:
MrsVamos · 28/05/2015 16:57

You know you're ddog best, and what works for you, and her. Smile She sounds lovely.

Lucky you getting a pup. Envy

I've always sworn I'd never get another sibe, but they are such great personalities, I miss ours so much. I think it would be too much like trying to replace though. Sad

I did ponder getting a border collie as a friend, but I've also got a huge fancy for a Keeshond or a Malamute. Mal might be too much like a sibe ?

Its not going to happen, I don't think, its just me wishful thinking.

Raahh · 28/05/2015 17:00

Djok had an easier time of it then. Serving for the match.

Right Sousa- break back.

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/05/2015 17:03

I'm bored with Jim and Petch now. Can we get Marion in?

And please, give Sousa some credit. He has played well so far.

OP posts:
MrsVamos · 28/05/2015 17:06

Thought Djok would win easy. Smile

Not that injured then. Wink

Sousa's playing well. This could go the distance. Wonder if we'll still get Andy's surprise ?

Raahh · 28/05/2015 17:06

Shot!!

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/05/2015 17:07

well, Sousa needs to win this before 6.15pm

Thanks.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 28/05/2015 17:08

MrsV is a sibe a siberian husky? I think I've just worked that out when you mentioned a malamute! There are a few round here, they are gorgeous dogs.

Raahh · 28/05/2015 17:08

The Ikea advert with the Tempest quote is haunting me. Ds is studying it at school (The Tempest, not Ikea) . It is fair to say, he is not fond of Shakespeare.
Or English generally, sadly Sad
