Did anyone else wonder where their last 10 years went last night? Caught it by accident (way past my bedtime), then was glued. God, that was part of my life - young, single, City wine bars every night... Now I just feel old, married and staying home every night with a baby.....! How DID that happen?

my fave was the gay Scottish plumber, can anyone remember his name?

sorry about the spolier fat thighs!!

FatThighs · 14/11/2006 14:40

no worries donnie - not really a spoiler as I gues that will be what the whole show is about. Can't remeber name of gay scottish plumber - but remember he was cool.

The last episode had my heart beating really fast - class tv as I remember!

DUSTIN · 14/11/2006 14:42

Was he the ginger one??

Report
donnie · 14/11/2006 14:43

yes, Warren wanders into Miles and that older woman's wedding ( name escapes me) just as Millie starts to beat up that other horrid girl and mutters ' outstanding'!!! class indeed!!

donnie · 14/11/2006 14:44

yes, ginger and very scottish = as I recall there was a highly charged scene with him and Ferdy in the shower. Let's just say there was a different type of plumbing going on!

NomDePlume · 14/11/2006 14:45

I remember thinking that shower scene was VERY graphic for normal telly, and it wasn't on massively late either.

Chills ran down my spine when the guitar rift for the theme tune started! Along with several things (TFI Friday, lemon Hooch and Skunk Anansie) This Life reminds me of the way I wanted to be when I was in my 20s, and now that I'm almost out of my 20s I realise that I've not done half the things that I wanted to do.

This Life rocks! And Andrew Lincoln looks so young!

He's never going to grow into his nose though is he?

"TFI Friday, lemon Hooch and Skunk Anansie" Ginmummy you've just summed up my Friday nights 10 years ago!! Last ngiht was a treat as Skunk Anansie was playing in the background when they were in the pub.

Report
FatThighs · 14/11/2006 17:37

ginmummy - don't worry, you have loads of time to do all the things you wnat to do.

Life was fun back then but God I was insecure!!!

I think they need to make at least a couple of episodes for Christmas!!!!

Report
BoingBoing · 14/11/2006 18:54

God, yes FatT. Here we are moaning about being married, broke & with babies living in the ar$e end of nowhere, back then we were moaning that we'd never find our ideal man and wasn't being single dreadful. Just shows we're never happy with what we've got.

And even 10 epsiode wouldn't cover my last 10 years (although you'd all fall asleep...)

DimpledThighs · 14/11/2006 19:52

oh yes Lenny - he was very cool in a totally accepting of this sexuality kind of way.

(BTW have changed mynake from fatthighs to dimpledthighs after much protest at my negative self image.)

Love this thread!

Got round to watching the earlier episode last night (but am obviously knackered today!)

Our house used to love This Life. Would all ceremoniously gather round the telly on a Thursday as was Top of the Pops early on then This Life at 9ish (I think?). Am sat here reminiscing how we too used to randomly get up off the sofa and decide to go to the pub!! Can't do that with 2 kids under 5.....but agree with BoingBoing that we are never happy with our lot....

Ooh just seen this thread. I loved This Life first time. Too right BoingBoing where did the last ten years go!??

I keep trying to stay up to watch it, but it's too late for me these days.(I wouldn't have said that yen years ago!!)

I wish they wouldn't put two episodes on back to back so late.

Of course Miles (Jack Davenport) has gone on to do loads hadn't he? Wasn't he in Pirates of the Caribbean?

whatever happenned to lemon hooch? and 2 dogs? tee hee
I think they will portray egg as a jamie oliver type in the new one
Millie will be just the same
Anna will have written a book on parenting(haha)and made a fortune in property investment. But is still single.
Miles will have started an dot com company inherited his families money and have given it all up to chill in ibiza for the rest of his life
Warren will have had a civil partnership with the love of his life( who will be dying)
what do you think?

Report
donnie · 15/11/2006 12:53

I just hope Millie#s hair is a bit messier than before, it was always so perfect it freaked me out!

Report
BoingBoing · 15/11/2006 12:56

Good call on Egg, Cremo. Andrew Lincoln just isn't going to accept him being a nobody, is he?! Tee hee. Anna - LOL. She's not exactly the maternal type, is she?
Is Warren definitely in he? I always thought he was the best character. Or at least the most sane.

Do you know what I loved about this life - that it was the first (or first I had seen) television programme to include gay characters but not in a token way - the gay characters were deep, versitle, had failings (and in Ferdy's case were very easy on the eye.) I thouhgt it was ground breaking in that sense and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I think

Anna: has turned out to be a very successful lawyer in a humna rights worthy type way

Mille: very boring partner in law firm with contrived 'happy' lifestyle bored out of her mind and ends up shagging someone out of desperation

Egg: like someone else said top chef or something sucessful having followed his dreams (or haha maybe a teacher)

Miles: Had mid-life crisis and now runs a vineyard in south of france and also works as a part time pirate

Warren: King of the world

must go baby crying..
