After the fantastic threads last year I thought it time to start making our predictions for those in the semis and for potential winners.

Who's in?

OP posts:
Sunnymeg · 03/05/2015 18:06

I am!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 03/05/2015 18:10

I'm here.

SuffolkNWhat · 03/05/2015 20:23

Phew was starting to think I'd be here on my lonesome!

soapboxqueen · 03/05/2015 20:28

God I love Eurovision. I really really do.

wowfudge · 03/05/2015 20:53

At the risk of outing myself, I've just been asked if I'll cook on the Friday night for our weekend Eurovision house party away Grin

Bring it on!

SuffolkNWhat · 04/05/2015 18:39

What's the general consensus on the ? I like it Blush

I like it, but it doesn't have a cat in hell's chance. The Aussie entry will do well, as will the Swedish one.

fatballerina · 05/05/2015 11:38

Favourite time of year!Really hoping Iceland will do well-they've never won it and I have a sneaky fiver on them! Also liking Georgia this year-Sweden and Australia are both leaving me cold..

SuffolkNWhat · 05/05/2015 12:42

I'm not keen on the Aussie entry but I think the novelty of them being in it will mean they do well.

OP posts:
fatballerina · 05/05/2015 15:48

Definitely agree about the Australian novelty factor-I wonder will they offer the runner up the chance to host it if they win?

Gilbertina · 05/05/2015 16:58

I was disappointed to hear Graham Norton describing this year's entries as "a sea of ballads". I prefer a good, trashy Europop entry!

Despite this, I'm super-excited about Eurovision as always. Star

The Electro Velvet song is beginning to grow on me a wee bit but I doubt it can win, unfortunately.

VashtaNerada · 05/05/2015 17:08

OMG. When is it? When is it? When is it??

SuffolkNWhat · 05/05/2015 17:09

First semi is on the 19th, second semi is the 21st, final is 23rd

SuffolkNWhat · 05/05/2015 17:10

Finland's entry is definitely NOT a ballad. I don't think they want to win this year!

OP posts:
mummytime · 05/05/2015 18:10

The Finnish one is amazing, and great as the Band all having learning disabilities - I'd be tempted to vote for them if they get through to the final.

sheldonesque · 05/05/2015 18:57

I am growing a beard and sewing sequins on my jammies in preparation.

Cannot wait!

dillite · 07/05/2015 22:25

When is it on?

MrsTrelis · 07/05/2015 22:33

hello!
I've been meaning to see when the heats are on but I'm not sure if this ruins the overall amazingness of the Big Show. It's always right around my birthday, and I LUFFS it. Grin

mathanxiety · 12/05/2015 04:33

I've finally found the thread!

I love love Slovenia.

Why is Portugal always so dreadful?

DrankSangriaInThePark · 12/05/2015 08:43

Math! I was about to put a callout for you!

Portugal is always atrocious...not in a Moldovan so bad it's good way, just in a falling off the edge of Europe into the Atlantic clueless kind of way. I loved their 89 entry (Yes, I am that much of a Euro geek) until my Portuguese speaking friend told me it was about their lost empire and how they were going to get it back.

I love a good Euro ballad. My favourite last year was the big Scandinavian feller with the long blond hair bellowing something meaningful with his legs apart. (Iceland possibly?)

I thought Aussie was a typo for the Austrians!!!! Wtf???? Israel are going to be fecked off to no longer be the geographical oddity. (I know it's to do with telly rights etc, but still...)

Are Italy entering this year? They haven't said anything on Italian telly.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 12/05/2015 10:00

The Irish entry is awful this year...I really don't think we stand much of a chance getting out of the semi-finals even if we do have the possibility of the UK voting for us (out of friendship and not some warped bloc voting thing going on there)

Can't believe the last time Ireland won was with Emer Quinn and "The Voice"....soooo long ago.

I like the Austrian song and the Swedish one too. Sweden seems to 'get' Europop like no other country.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 12/05/2015 10:03

I like the UK entry this year....retro-pop stylee. I hope it does well.

I think one thing that goes against the Eurovision now is how expensive it is to host. I could be wrong here but I think part of the voting is related to how likely the winner will be to be able to pay to host it...Greece, Portugal, Spain and Ireland are unlikely to win for the foreseeable future until we can get our books to balance properly Smile

UnspecialSnowflake · 12/05/2015 10:09

The UK entry sounds just like this old ad
So much so there's even a mash up version on YouTube.

Gilbertina · 12/05/2015 12:00

Portugal is always atrocious...not in a Moldovan so bad it's good way, just in a falling off the edge of Europe into the Atlantic clueless kind of way.

I still like their 2009 effort from Flor-de-Lis, Todas as ruas do amor. It's quite a sweet song with an accordian although I think I was also swayed by the fact that the singer's outfit and accessories made me think of Strawberry Switchblade.

fatballerina · 14/05/2015 14:12

I love Georgia this year..and Macedonia and Iceland but I refuse to get my hopes up after my favourite last year (Israel) failed to qualify..
