On the blackta thing, yes it is a little clumsy,but I think it is well intentioned. The BBC amazingly got stick from certain quarters for casting him in the first place (outrage!: why has the BBC cast a BME as a musketeer etc etc) so Adrian explained that he deliberatley did that. Dumas' father was of mixed race and I think he sees it as a tribute and a chance to raise and deal with certain issues. They covered slavery and Porthos' reaction to it in S1 in Commodities. If you haven't watched that one you really should, it's one of the best S1 episodes.

But yes, it would be nice to see Porthos having more than storylines that focus on "issues" and morality. Am hoping him coming into his own and believeing in himself more will do that. He was a bit commanding and authorative in Ep 9....bodes well.

Norah, yes, I asked Tom at the Carol Service if he would be happy to do series 3 and he said he would but that would be it, he thinks shows that go on too long become parodies of themselves. I think he would like to get back to the theatre, but who knows, things can change.

jeanne yes I absolutely think that about porthos. Was thinking the other day why does the black character have to have the paternity storyline rather than, say, a love story?

Interesting thing about this is that Dumas was mixed race (black grandmother) and there have been elements of porthos' stories that I have thought referenced this (can't remember what!)

Also thought it might have been better, if introducing a black musketeer (and why not) to pick someone other than the character renowned mainly for strength and size. But can see the pitfalls of making it aramis the love rat, and it's unrealistic for it to be athos the aristocrat.

Haven't been thinking about this much (honest!).

I agree issy, there may be some joshing in here (can't bring myself to say banter), but that's it - no nastiness towards each other or the cast.

I'm with you re : Demelza mrsbeee, think she's gorgeous & have no complaints about how the actress is playing the character. Wish the posters on the other thread would be less critical of other women's physical appearance.
