Torchwood

Anyone spot the error in the first 5 minutes of torchwood regarding the comment Capt Jack made about oestrogen?

It does't get into the rain, only the water evaporates, any solids disoved get left behind!
I tutted over this and Dh said I was 'sad'

He then went on to point out that with those rank tabs he was Group Captain Jack, and would be called Group Captain, not captain.

So I called him sad.

A marriage made in pedantic heaven!

(19 years tomorrow!)

According to my DD, the original tapes for the new Dr Who series were labelled Torchwood (an anagram as Christie said), to disguise them & they decided they liked the name & used it for the alien investigation organisation.

UlySCREAMS · 23/10/2006 20:58

Just had to break it to ds1 that it isn't for kids, was hoping to tape the repeat for him. He said "I know" Yet he was still going to watch it the little blighter

JB is mighty fine and apparently a shade bi so we're in there lasses!

rustycreakingdoorbear · 23/10/2006 22:39

No comments from Unquiet Dad?

UnquietDad · 23/10/2006 22:47

I thought it was good! Enough intrigue to keep us watching. I could see the CSI:Cardiff thing more than the This Life/X-Files thing.

Fine bit of juicy girl-on-girl action too...

ilovecaboose · 23/10/2006 22:57

Really disapointed with this and I was looking forward to it as well.

For anyone who has seen Angel (Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin off) this is what torchwood seemed to be trying to be. The 2nd episode is in fact very very similar to an Angel Season 1 episode (cept being Angel its a demon not an alien).

Also the first episode when the torchwood guy (ugly one) uses that spray thing to get people into bed I thought was disgusting. I know its only meant to be tv but how different is that from using a date rape drug to get people to completely loose control of themselves (sexually) in order to have sex with them. Did not like that at all.

Also badly acted and poor 2nd hand storylines.

lemonAIIEEE · 23/10/2006 23:03

The odd-looking Torchwood guy isn't supposed to be a nice character, though, is he? The alien tech that the verious Torchwood people had "borrowed" was, I guess, supposed to say something about them so Toshi wanted to pick up extra knowledge while whatshisface wanted something that was effectively a date rape drug. I imagine we'll see more of that side of him coming out over the series (bear in mind that the viewer's the only one who knows what he's been doing at this stage his colleagues have no idea).

ilovecaboose · 23/10/2006 23:05

that's an interesting point actually - hadn't considered that. Just thought he was supposed to be 'good guy' as was in torchwood. I hope there are some repercussions to his actions.

Probably won't watch again as hey seen all of Angel, don't need to see poor reenactment.

lemonAIIEEE · 23/10/2006 23:06

I find to my shame that I am with Caitlin Moran on this one... but I'd much prefer that there were more to it than "Captain Jack Harkness is sexually charismatic, and runs around in period military outfits, flirting". It needs Joss Whedon as a script doctor, I think.

laudaud · 24/10/2006 09:40

for those who missed it it's on BBC2 tomorrow at 9:00!

Pixel · 25/10/2006 00:11

I mainly enjoye dit (Dh was in last nght so had to watch re-run), but the lead actresss annoys me (she just doesn't seem all that bright, and too much in the way of 'big ewye' moments) and the panoramic virews of cardiff / Cap jack standing on top of a tall building- .

Cardiff is looking good in it though, it's nice there these days (we're only 20 minutes drive away)

Sherbert37 · 26/10/2006 10:35

DS1 aged 13 watched the first one then recorded the second. Is it suitable for him? The Bill is the most racy thing he watches at present!

Blandmum · 26/10/2006 10:38

100% not.

Unless you are OK with him watching quite graphically simulated sex scenes in a nightclub toleit! .

Lots of blood and gore, when throats are ripped our you hear the tearing and see the sputing blood.

A much more 'adult' program IMHO

Looks like I'll be 'kindly' recording Neighbours over it for him to watch after his paper round tonight then! Thanks.

binker · 26/10/2006 10:51

it's cracking ! ...not for kids though ! - absolutely loved it

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 26/10/2006 11:00

do you know its so sad

there's all this alien sex in toilets and spurting of blood

and me and dh "do you think that was the millenium stadium in the distance? " "oooh look, the new opera house!" "oh ffs, thats not how you get from the bay to the town centre, pull the other one"

Overrun · 26/10/2006 11:03

Filly, didn't know you lived in Cardiff. My dh and I are exactly the same, spending more time sight seeing than watching the action
HIJACK ALERT - I went to the Millenium centre on tuesday night to see a musical, its really good inside. If you haven't been, those letters that you can see on the side of it, are actually windows in the bar area.
i was sitting next to this man who had come from mid wales, and he was so proud, saying things like "Its about time we put ourselves on the map"

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 26/10/2006 11:04

ble wyt ti, overrun?

am in penylan

UnquietDad · 26/10/2006 13:57

There's bound to be a trend now of successful programmes spinning off into bloodier, sexier, glossier versions of themselves, with the spin-off title being an anagram of the parent show. So we could have:

from "Desperate Housewives" - "Susie's Deeper Hate Vow", as Teri Hatcher's character becomes a part-time vigilante.

from "Last of The Summer Wine" - "A Mum Feels Her Tits Now", with full-on girl-girl action between Nora and Ivy.

from "Eastenders" - "Teasenerds", about a group of hot and flirty computer operators in Walford.

UlySCREAMS · 26/10/2006 13:58

unquietdad, you're very clever!

Where was the alien sex in the toilets??? I missed that? Or was there 2 episodes?

UnquietDad · 26/10/2006 14:00

Yes, shagging in the bogs is in ep.2.

lemonAIIEEE · 26/10/2006 14:02

YEs, it was in the second episode.
