Torchwood

Anyone spot the error in the first 5 minutes of torchwood regarding the comment Capt Jack made about oestrogen?

It does't get into the rain, only the water evaporates, any solids disoved get left behind!
I tutted over this and Dh said I was 'sad'

He then went on to point out that with those rank tabs he was Group Captain Jack, and would be called Group Captain, not captain.

So I called him sad.

A marriage made in pedantic heaven!

(19 years tomorrow!)

I also made the "write it down" comment Some very good bits but also had to hope my ds1 had forgotten the trailer as he loves Dr Who.

shewhoneverdusts · 23/10/2006 13:23

I was going to let my dds watch it with us last night, but after I came on here and saw some of the things on the other threads, I decided we would watch it first and let them know if I thought it was suitable. Thank god I did! the first episode would have been ok, (Oh dds are 13 and 10 btw) but the second, oh no deffo not. Especially the scene with the nightclub bouncer 'enjoying' himself whilst watching the cctv of the alien shag. I am not up for explaining any more than I already have to.

Iklboo · 23/10/2006 13:26

Anyone else think that the guy who plays the doctor looks like his skin is too tight for his head? I mean, it looks all stretched like he's wearing a size 10 face on a size 14 skull!

PeachyBobbingParty · 23/10/2006 13:28

the one playing Gwen- is she the one who channelled the Gelf (or whatever) through herself, dying in the process, in the Charls Dickens episode of Dr Who?

And if so, just how matey do you have to be to Russeell wotsisname to get a job with him??????????

Blandmum · 23/10/2006 13:29

LOL at the comment about the doctors face.

To be fair old Russell did make it quite clear that this would never be one for the kids.

I said the pen and paper thing too and DH raised an eyebrow at me

Blandmum · 23/10/2006 13:35

We are all closet pedants!

I 'ave never been in the closet with my pedantry

Blandmum · 23/10/2006 13:37

We thought pen and paper too. And DH took the opportunity to point out that if I did that I'd just lose the piece of paper without any interference from Torchwood and be none the wiser anyway.

I thought the ideas were good but I'm with HumphreyComfrey on not loving it yet. The dialogue doesn't zip enough and the characterisation's a bit shallow so far. I was hoping for something a bit more Doctor Who meets Buffy meets Life on Mars (for the fish-out-of-water police aspect), with added polymorphous perversity (I don't remember which MNer came up with that phrase, but it's a good one).

I shall keep watching, mind...

I liked it

I only saw the first episode, but wow, way better than dr who

(mb I tutted over that too...but dp tutted with me. oh how we tutted.)

Also its fun to spot place near where we live cos its actually set in cardiff. there is the bit where they run down st mary's street then up the underpass...me and dp, sat there, debating how long it would take to do this, oh so sad...

laudaud · 23/10/2006 14:15

another pedant here with the pen and paper comment.
I also thought the alien (gas)could have escaped from cell (holes in panel) and found a new host - did I miss something?

Iklboo · 23/10/2006 14:16

Jura it's on BBC2 eother tomorrow or Weds, and again on BBC3 Friday

foxinsocks · 23/10/2006 14:20

ooh I have the first two episodes on sky plus to watch later so it looks like they were worth recording!

Did any of you see Caitlin Moran in the Times this morning - her review really made me laugh out loud

'And in the ageing I?ve done since Saturday, when I previewed the first episode of Torchwood (Sunday, BBC Three), and now, when I?ve seen the second episode, I think I have finally caught sight of my real self. Despite all my previous, self- deceiving faux-concerns over Torchwood?s long-term dramatic viability, I must now admit that I am a simple woman. I think I really can sustain interest in a series, purely on the basis that Captain Jack Harkness is sexually charismatic, and runs around in period military outfits, flirting. It is enough. It is more than enough.'

rustycreakingdoorbear · 23/10/2006 14:37

DD (16)watched it with us and said afterwards "Can you record it next time" I asked why, thinking she wanted to be able to skip the gory bits. Should have known better: "There are some things I'd really rather not watch sitting between you & Dad!"

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 23/10/2006 14:42

uh...mb...in welsh do you not say the grass is blue? is that not a welsh expression or something? as in glaswellt?

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 23/10/2006 14:42

(oh I am so desperate to show off my gcse welsh, i must restrain myself)

Pixel · 23/10/2006 16:38
