I can't see a thread about this, I'm not the only one watching surely?!

Anyone?

OP posts:
ShebaRabbit · 08/02/2015 12:40

Watched it last night Lammy,I really enjoyed it again. Very short scene with a couple of twin peaks-type characters was funny. I'm sticking with it for now anyway.

Butterflyface · 09/02/2015 20:10

What was the deal with the boy's father washing blood off his shirt when he came back inside? DH and I were really confused about that - we also reckon that the sheriff killed CE and the original bloke so that the hotel goes up.

Lammy7 · 09/02/2015 20:58

Shea I will stick with it too .....am tenacious like that! Number 2 threw up a lot more questions.....fascinating stuff :)

petal2008 · 10/02/2015 22:28

I've got a bit of a theory about the American policeman from Britain. Remember the female forensic nurse who was doing the autopsy on CE? She said to him that he must have left London before CE was dead. I reckon he's an "Inspector Goole" type character-the policeman in "An Inspector Calls" from the J B Priestly play. He arrived and investigated a suicide in the play. Got all the family involved to examine their motives etc then left when they realised they were all partly to blame. It then transpires that he didn't exist as a person at all.

Bit off the wall theory but he seems a bit weird.

Probably totally off the mark Smile

Marjal12 · 11/02/2015 22:45

petal your theory is as off the wall as mine - I think the sheriff is a shapeshifter who can turn into a polar bear. He killed the two scientists whilst in bear mode. Spanish girl has similar skill - hence her drawing blood from search and rescue guy with her teeth/claws during sexy times.
They're all controlled by the mammoth carcass, which is actually an alien...
Ahem.

Marjal12 · 11/02/2015 22:46

PS
You all know that Richard Dormer (the sheriff) does the voice of Dad on Lily's Driftwood Bay, right?
"I'll be here if you need me!"

DustBunnyFarmer · 11/02/2015 23:02

We are watching. It looks expensive but it's a bit GCSE in places plot and dialogue-wise. DH and I snorted when one of the charcacters commented on not being able bury anyone on the island due to the permafrost and how there was still plague in the cemetary graves. Our mad plot guess is new/novel pathogen in the mammoth carcass - the "mumpy" boy was playing with it before the two dodgy geezers found it & moved it. I like theshapeshifting sheriff theory a lot, though.

PacificDogwood · 11/02/2015 23:05

Ah, it's all supernatural/alien?
Phew - that makes perfect sense; what a relief!

And there I was thinking it was all a bit weird and difficult to understand… Wink

DustBunnyFarmer · 11/02/2015 23:08

I'm not sure it is supernatural, but I find the offbeam theorising livens it up.

Howaboutthisone · 12/02/2015 18:42

Oo petal- that's a brilliant theory! I think you might be right!

We're sticking with it at the moment but I really do wish they'd stop mumbling so much!

Marjal12 · 12/02/2015 23:09

Well, after that episode I am none the wiser. The 'human blood' on his shirt might ruin my theory about Spanish girl. Loving the weird couple in the cafe - seems to be a subplot there with him as a feeder judging from the trail for next week...

DustBunnyFarmer · 13/02/2015 22:25

Anyone else wonder who was feeding & caring for the huskies? You can't just tie 'em up and leave 'em in the middle of nowhere.

Rollergirl1 · 13/02/2015 23:32

Half way through watching episode 3. Still don't really know what the fuck is going on!

Why would the rescue guy not go and see his son after his wife told him he'd just had a fit?

Who is the "Russian" guy?

Rollergirl1 · 13/02/2015 23:36

Have been wracking my brains as to where seen Russian guy before and it just came to me. He was the interpreter in Utopia series 2, that got shot by Arby and had that great line "eat my fucking chip!"

Marjal12 · 13/02/2015 23:43

The Russian guy was on snowmobile with another guy heading up the glacier in Episode 1. Sheriff stopped them because their gun licence hadn't been granted, then made the guy walk back into town with Sheriff's gun to protect them from polar bears. He's a wrong'un...

PacificDogwood · 14/02/2015 08:36

Clear as mud. Still.
It is sheer puzzlement that makes me persevere.
Who is the weird couple in the pub?
Russian guy? What does he want?
Why was Henry waving a gun around?
Why does the 'music' go all menacing when the mammoth carcass is in view??
Confused

Rollergirl1 · 14/02/2015 08:48

Pacific: Hah hah. I thought that in the first 2 episodes where there were frequent lengthy zoom ins of mammoth remains, although just looked like mud to me. Obviously think their viewers are so thick that they need visual cues that they are seeing something VERY IMPORTANT (although actually just mud)Grin

DustBunnyFarmer · 14/02/2015 09:05

I think the mammoth is infected and whatever it is carrying will smite down the inhabitants of Fortitude. The fitting boy is the first to fall as he was poking at the carcass in situ in episode 1. I think it affects mental states - more rage, risk taking etc. Taking the tusks to the remote shed will turn the huskies vicious - remember he told the girl they'll attack bears, but never humans. I think they'll attack the man and his daughter.

PacificDogwood · 14/02/2015 09:23

Yes, I agree, the mammoth has some contagious going on and I like your theory, DustBunny.
Why did he go away to that remote cottage with his daughter in the first place though? Confused

Rollergirl1 · 14/02/2015 13:03

Because he thinks that his mate that he gave the mammoth bone to killed CE and so he is guilty by association.

noddyholder · 14/02/2015 13:05

I love it Like twin peaks with snow!

ShebaRabbit · 14/02/2015 13:29

Still enjoying it.
I think the mammoth is carrying some virus that is contagious now that its defrosting, like the plague graves mentioned by the twin peaks couple last week. Also think the sheriff knows the Spanish girl has the virus, that's why he bashed the rescue guy as he thinks he has passed it onto his son.
I also think you really cant die on Fortitude because of the virus that's why they're sending Michael Gambon back, cos it would draw attention that somebody terminally ill is still alive there a year later. Its also why he doesn't want to leave, cos he knows he's a goner right away. The girl was with the boy when they discovered the mammoth so she is somehow immune to it.

I have a vague notion that working huskies only eat once a week or something when they're not actually working, could have imagined that though.

Corriewatcher · 14/02/2015 18:27

Watched all episodes again on catch up and the plot is a little clearer now. Def agree about virus from mammoth carcass. Puzzled by connection between Spanish girl and sherif especially him interviewing her in police station early in episode one as if she is a plant in Fortitude.

And is it just me or does anyone else feel cold watching the programme?

Howaboutthisone · 14/02/2015 18:31

I don't think that the rescue guy is Liam's dad. Not certain tho

DustBunnyFarmer · 14/02/2015 19:42

And is it just me or does anyone else feel cold watching the programme?

A tad, but I am LOVING the Icelandic scenery in the location filming. I will watch to the end however bad the plot gets because the scenery is so awesome.

I also think the "no-one can die in Fortitude" theory upthread is quite effectively debunked by Chris Ecclestone being brown bread.
