Broadchurch thread 2- the one where everyone in MNPD requests a transfer to the traffic division

Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

Also, why is Charlotte Rampling's sight good for some things (e.g. writing wills) and bad for others (e.g. reading important legal documents)?

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 08:02

I thought that re selective blindness.

I assumed DT and OC were on leave due to being witnesses in the trial?

hackmum · 03/02/2015 09:54

"I assumed DT and OC were on leave due to being witnesses in the trial?"

Oh, do you get leave for that? Surely you'd just give your evidence and then go back to your job? Mind you, I'm not an expert. And neither is the scriptwriter, by the looks of it. Smile

OnlyLovers · 03/02/2015 10:00

So why leap from boyfriend of missing girl works somewhere with a furnace to him having burnt her body in it? Tenuous.

I KNOW! I found that quite hard to swallow. And, if you planned to incinerate a body at an agricultural plant, why would you handily write down the name of the place on a piece of paper for the police to find?!?

SignoraLiviaBurlando · 03/02/2015 10:50

And I worry that Freddy is not being properly supervised so close to the water when OC iS engrossed in looking at evidence.
Yes, he seems very quiet - looking at the same cloth book - anyone have a toddler like that?
Also agree about the unlocked/unguarded abbatoir where the electricity works!
Annoying the way they parked their car right outside the gate causing an obstruction Grin

noseymcposey · 03/02/2015 11:12

def think defence barrister has unrequited love for prosecution. Think she is the one that got away.

DD2 is a similar age, and I'm lucky if she will sit still long enough for me to put a load of washing on, never mind conduct a double murder investigation.

seaoflove · 03/02/2015 11:45

I'm confused. Charlotte Rampling is the prosecution and Marianne Jean-Baptiste is the defence. Whichever way around it is, I really don't think there was any unrequited interracial Sapphic love going on Grin

noseymcposey · 03/02/2015 11:52

oh yeah other way round. Oops! prosecution in love with defence!

Well, she said there was someone she loved but she wasn't brave enough to say it. And they DEFINITELY have history, so........

OnlyLovers · 03/02/2015 11:56

I TOTALLY think there is unfinished romantic business beyond Charlotte Rampling and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

And oh, how heartening to be able to type that –two powerhouse actors, both women, in primetime mainstream drama that passes the Bechdel test with flying colours even though it's jumped several sharks.

noseymcposey · 03/02/2015 11:57

And 'I didn't like you enough' so means 'I am/was in love with you' :)

PatterofaMinion · 03/02/2015 11:58

Did anyone notice Hardy putting his hand on Ellie's arm/back/whatever and she had to shrug him off - normally he never touches ANYone.

Hmmm. Also I think the girl's dad did it. Lee was just being a creepy git in the wood. But being creepy is a red herring. It wasn't him.

Agro chemical place, te diesel is obvs linked to this and Ellie saying 'Ooh it's blood' unless it was dried blood, well, there we go with the red diesel again.

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 11:59

Well I meant they had taken leave of their senses for the trial not that they were swanning around on full pay. I have no idea if they would or not but it satisfies my WTF ponderings.

In 7yrs on mumsnet hackmum is the first to quote me Flowers

SignoraLiviaBurlando · 03/02/2015 12:28

I also did wonder if when CR said she had not been brave enough that it referred to either being in love with a (black) woman in a professional and time when both aspects that might have been taboo, or by her refusal to take on the case for the woman she loved?
Ok-- farfetched, but not necessarily BC2 standards....
But am loving the the acting, especially now ??Baptiste has some good scenes. She is now starting to pull ahead of OC in terms of watchability....Grin
And the son in prison - really incredible acting by him - want to see more of him...

AnnieHoo · 03/02/2015 12:34

Yes Patter obv link between Agri services place and red diesel which is used on farms, boats, furnaces.

Maybe when Nigel was out syphoning red diesel one night he saw something going on in an Agri furnace in broadchurch like the one in Plymouth?

OnlyLovers · 03/02/2015 12:39

Portsmouth, no?

AnnieHoo · 03/02/2015 12:48

Oops I meant Portsmouth not Plymouth.

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 13:03

Did they def say the furnace place was in Portsmouth? I know that the mobile phone signal was spoken about giving it's last signal from there but when they were in the car they passed the M5 Wicker Man. No M5 required from Dorset to Portsmouth is there?

DOES THIS EVEN MATTER?

OnlyLovers · 03/02/2015 13:20

Foxy, I thought the same thing. I'm not really keeping track of where all these different things are supposed to be set/ have happened. I asked DP but he gave me a convoluted and slightly patronising answer.

I didn't/couldn't ask for further clarification because it would have turned into a row about 'don't fucking patronise me'. Grin

floellabenjaminsearrings · 03/02/2015 13:21

When CR was telling MJB why she didn't defend her son, I just thought she was trying to hide the fact that, at that time, she had already started having her sight problems (which I have assumed is glaucoma). She felt she would let her friend/colleague down if her loss of sight caused her to lose the trial. She still can't admit to it, partly through pride, but mainly because it would be a sign of weakness to the defence team.

AnnieHoo · 03/02/2015 13:30

Foxy you're right just played back that bit (I'm off work sick on the sofa!) Agri place is "in the sandbrook area, 5 miles from the Gillespie house" says OC.

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 13:31

I don't think the location really matters. Or who is paying Ellie and Joe's mortgage plus her flat rental plus what must be ridiculous amounts of childcare fees. Or who is paying for Clare's huge remote cottage. And last week Mark was considering taking a couple of months off work to spend time with the new baby. How the hell could they afford that?! He is self employed, Nige also on the payroll, yet they are never seen doing any bloody plumbing and have both been sat in court every day so presumably no money coming in. Beth on maternity leave or sahm not sure which. These details REALLY wind me up.

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 13:33
