Broadchurch thread 2- the one where everyone in MNPD requests a transfer to the traffic division

Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

Foxy
yy re pat leave stuff.
No-one I know (inc DH) who is self-employed would just take off time like that - and what about his employee Nige in his twee starter home

That did rile me. How would they have savings, and even if they did, what about loss of goodwill/competitors moving in on regular customers....At least you would have had some domestics between him & Beth...

APlaceInTheWinter · 03/02/2015 14:36

I also thought Lee could have easily fought Ricky off, seeing as how he a) saw him coming and b) is as fit as a butcher's dog.
^^ This made me Grin as it is so true. No way would Ricky have won that fight but I guess that's a pointer to Ricky being violent and short-tempered, and Lee only being good for posing in a vest which he is very very good at .

Where did the original bit of paper come from with the agri-furnace factory address? I know it was in the Sandbrook files but do we know who wrote it down? or who provided the original slip of paper? I couldn't hear what OC said.

I don't think Lisa is in the furnace. Not to be blunt but if she was, then surely the murderer would have put the other girl in there too?

I'm now worrying that they're not going to be able to tie up all the loose ends; that DT is going to die Sad and that there is not going to be an appearance by Will Mellor's psychic

AnnieHoo · 03/02/2015 15:00

It was scribbled on the back of an old vehicle check form and next to it "Gary Thorp - Lee Ashworth"

I understood that Hardy had written it but he says he's never heard of Thorp Agri services.

PandasRock · 03/02/2015 15:09

There isn't going to be any Will Mellor. The psychic isn't in s2 at all.

Which is a pity, because he's about the only one who could even begin to hope to pull it all together Grin

APlaceInTheWinter · 03/02/2015 15:15

Thanks, Annie , so I wonder if we'll meet Gary Thorp next week and at this rate it will turn out he was having an affair with Claire; Kate; and Lisa! maybe even Hardy too

eddiemairswife · 03/02/2015 15:36

No Gary Thorp in cast list in next week's Radio Times.

whothehellknows · 03/02/2015 15:42

Also, Claire said she doesn't think Lee did it. So, why is she hiding and who is she hiding from?

APlaceInTheWinter · 03/02/2015 16:15

Ooh, good sleuthing eddiemairswife .

I can't help but think this series would have been better without Sandbrook. It could just have focused on the emotional toll of the trial and the difference between truth and justice.

Sandbrook is just another murder mystery and the reason Broadchurch 1 worked was because of the study of the emotional impact of a murder on a community that we cared about. I don't know who I'm supposed to care about in Sandbrook.

OnlyLovers · 03/02/2015 16:30

APlace, I agree; the Sandbrook stuff does rather take away from the Broadchurch stuff.

I wonder if the people we're supposed to care about re Sandbrook are Hardy, because it put a damper on his career, and maybe Ellie, who is now in it up to her neck and for whom it may have revelations in store?

katese11 · 03/02/2015 17:26

Maybe Joe was the Sandbrook murderer too, and that'll be the final push in getting him convicted

whothehellknows - If Ricky killed the girl, why is he kicking Lee's ass?

I am guessing because Lee has already stood trial for the murder - therefore can't be tried again? So Ricky could be tried as the sole murderer rather than that they did it together? I don't know though as I am not a legal expert by any means.

AnnieHoo I thought Hardy said he'd never seen the piece of paper

Does anyone remember the name of the drama that was on shortly before the first series where the dad did it I think?

cleanmachine · 03/02/2015 20:08

DT is looking so hot. Cant believe i thought he was a skinny weasel type.

Claire is quite mesmerising too with her eye acting. Some great acting amid the bizarre plot twists.

AnnieHoo · 03/02/2015 20:11

When hardy was pushing pram and miller asked if thorp services had ever been cross checked he said "I've never heard of it".

I don't think he replied to miller when she pointed to the piece of paper and asked if he'd seen it.

Do you think lee could have put the piece of paper into the sandbrook file when he broke in and took the personal letters?

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 20:11

DT is super hot but the ill health storyline gets right on my wick. It is totally unnecessary to the plot. And as in all tv drama, one pill popped and he goes from semi conscious writhing to standing up and off for a walk. Fast acting magic pills Hmm

LillianGish · 03/02/2015 20:31

I think the Sandbrook collapse and uncertainty - nowlooks like they might have got the wrong man - is supposed to cast doubt on Joe's guilt. beginning to be a pattern for DT - solving the case then losing in court - though it looks like in the Sandbrook case there may have been a good reason for that which makes us wonder if the same is true of the Broadchurch case. What I don't understand is why Claire needed to be in (unofficial) witness protection. She doesn't seem to be in any danger at all - if anything it looks like they are in league together. her fear and terror at the start when she bursting I court doesn't seem to tie up with her behaviour subsequently.

ArabellaStrange · 03/02/2015 20:52

Except, from memory, she didn't seem that terrified when she showed up at the court room, I think she came across as wired/excited if anything...

whothehellknows · 03/02/2015 20:57

LillianGish That's what is bugging me too. Initially DT said he needed to keep her safe because she lied about Lee's alibi and was his key witness. And I suppose with Rohypnol she can't actually verify his alibi. But in the next breath she said she didn't think he had done it. So I don't understand who would be after her.

Maybe to her it's all just some (very involved) sex game, hiding from Lee and getting him to pursue her?

PatterofaMinion · 03/02/2015 21:25

Auntiemaggie, it was Mayday I think?

APlaceInTheWinter · 03/02/2015 22:16

I don't think Claire was scared. I think DT was pretending he thought she was innocent and hence would be at risk so he could keep tabs on her and Lee; and she was pretending that she agreed with DT about Lee in the hope it meant DT wouldn't ever consider her seriously as a suspect.

FoxyMcFox · 03/02/2015 22:19

I agree APlaceInTheWinter.

AnnieHoo · 03/02/2015 22:21

I agree too.
