Broadchurch thread 2- the one where everyone in MNPD requests a transfer to the traffic division

Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

OP posts:

I know Tendon. That rummaging was tense. Just take the bag!

cleanmachine · 10/02/2015 15:47

I thought Claire went to the car to leave the pendant not take it?! Completely lost.

But loving this thread. I think Claire and blonde missing girl were shagging and trampolining pippa caught them and had to be killed. Lee was roped in to dispose of body (and generally to shag them both).

Some burning questions:
Will lee forever be doomed to standing on the hill topless banging fences in holes (erm yes please)

Will we ever see Fred emerge from the buggy?

Will kate spend the rest of her life starting at trampoline with evil stare and (posh) wine glass in hand?

Will OC ever change out of that grey suit?

motherinferior · 10/02/2015 16:07

Also - and I realise this is nit-picking in a most pointless manner - I keep worrying poor old Fred will fall into the water if he's allowed to pootle round DT's gaff unsupervised. Which would fit, of course, with the rest of the narrative arc in some way but even I (and I love a bit of gory horror) feel it's a bit mean.

seaoflove · 10/02/2015 16:14

Fred won't come to any harm. As a character he's totally irrelevant (and any reference to him, or scene featuring him, is just paying lip service to his existence). It's a very MN thing to worry about the toddler falling into the water though Grin

motherinferior · 10/02/2015 16:30

I know. I hate myself for it. Grin He is a very quiet and passive child, isn't he. Any normal toddler would have a lovely time with those bits of paper his mum stuck on the wall.

ToastBones · 10/02/2015 16:45

DT's ex was Lol in This Is England I think. That horrible rape scene Sad

ToastBones · 10/02/2015 16:49

Argh sorry, that was the Sandbrook journo. Too many dark haired similar looking women.

Icimoi · 10/02/2015 16:55

Yes, I thought the scene between Joe and the vicar made it very clear that Joe is guilty. He never bothered to deny it, and seemed to be saying that somehow the fact that he saved lives as a paramedic should let him off.

hollyisalovelyname · 10/02/2015 18:00

I still think they cobbled together Series 2 because of the success of Series 1.
They think audiences are so 'thick' they'll accept any old rubbish.
'An insult to our intelligence' as my dear old GM used to say about some soaps.

MajesticWhine · 10/02/2015 18:14

Suspension of disbelief is needed in bucket loads. Just like most telly though. I'm enjoying it.

eddiemairswife · 10/02/2015 18:27

I was wondering about the point of OC and Beth having babies in the first place. Then I seem to remember OC had returned after maternity leave in series 1,so as she had been absent DT was given the job instead of her. But
Beth's baby is pointless, unless it does turn out to be the vicar's. And why has DT been given a heart problem? Again it serves no purpose.

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 10/02/2015 19:09

I wouldn't rule out OC letting Claire live with her, it makes no sense and therefore is entirely possible in this series. That way they can have some penny dropping moment from OC, an unwise confrontation and then a tense and entirely predictable hostage situation, which our hero DT saves everyone Cept weirdo Murdering Claire

PatterofaMinion · 10/02/2015 19:12

I'm not sure it's the beard in itself, Icimoi - I think it is more his general joylessness, you know, when he was the Dr and most other things he was full of life and energy and really funny, and smiley and buzzing. This time he's a bore. And it's boring to watch.

Nerf · 10/02/2015 19:50

Beth's baby provided the rubbish disappearing act of Claire and lee. It's a plot device.

MissM · 10/02/2015 20:15

There's got to a lesbian snog thrown in at some point hasn't there. I always feel that (male) writers reach for that when they don't know what else to do.

ChaiseLounger · 10/02/2015 20:31

Is the heart pendant that DT was wearing when he had water running out of his trousers, is that the one Claire had on , in her photo that she burnt at the end?

Icimoi · 10/02/2015 20:33

I looked up the two legal advisers out of curiosity. One is Trevor Burke QC who doesn't mention this at all on his CV. The other is Namita Pawa, who does mention that she is legal adviser for variou programmes but doesn't mention Broadchurch. Something tells me that they're not proud of it. I really don't believe they countenanced the nonsense we're seeing, so I suspect they were just ignored. I think in their shoes I'd want my name taken off the credits.

Despite the ludicrous 'plot', am loving:
the acting
the music
the cinematography
the scenery
this thread
the thought of Lee with a Russian accent
Grin

atticusclaw · 10/02/2015 21:41

Aaagh I can't stand it, I am invested in this now. loved series one now forcing myself to watch this and it gets worse each week. OCs character is wonderful and I love how blunt she is. DT is doing the best he can with a pile of rubbish but Marianne Jean Baptiste should have stayed over in the US rather than coming back home. Her performance is so awful it ruins every episode.

I am shocked that there are actually legal advisers. I thought it was a dodgy script writer who had gleaned all his legal knowledge from old episodes of perry mason.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 10/02/2015 21:44

I did not see Broadhchurch Fisrt series. But this one has far too many strands that it is hard to keep up.

Who is Pippa?

whothehellknows · 10/02/2015 21:55

I knew claire took that bloody necklace. Why didn't OC confront her when she saw the photo, and grab the bloody thing? Why did she walk away without the photo? Surely she knew it was going to be destroyed immediately.

Also, Beth and OC are hugging now?

katese11 · 10/02/2015 22:56

I thought that was weird too whothehell! When did Beth forgive OC? You would have thought she'd have mellowed when OC helped her in labour

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2015 23:25

Oc should have ignored the photo. Silly policewoman !!!!

Pippa is one of the cousins

Does no one else think it's weird that the lawyer is shagging the nephew of accused?

Icimoi · 10/02/2015 23:30

Um, yes, Blondes. To say nothing of the cousin of the victim, nephew of one of the main investigating officers etc. See upthread where the barrister's activities have been commented on more than once.

I do wish just once that they'd show an instructing solicitor doing more of the preparation. Like, um, what happens in real life.
