Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

OP posts:
Nerf · 10/02/2015 06:30

They are probably going to Shock us with a lesbian kiss in episode 8. Yawn.

MadameJulienBaptiste · 10/02/2015 06:58

Anyone else think the junior barrister sleeping with the journo was just a ruse to get in his house for a snoop? No doubt what she saw on the papers was the 'something juicy'

Nerf · 10/02/2015 07:09

Yes it's all completely ridiculous though isn't ir?

Poppies: "Think eldest girl is still alive. Bluebells are a sign of death maybe sent to Claire as a threat"

That was my thought too - oldest girl is alive and she's sending the bluebells.

What's puzzling me - well, so much is - is that if Claire stole the pendant, why would she then wear it and have herself photographed wearing it? If you've stolen a crucial piece of evidence, surely what you then do is destroy it.

AuntieMaggie · 10/02/2015 09:12

Yeah I couldn't understand why Claire would wear the pendant either...

Sandbrook is confusing me now - I thought the mother looked suspicious when asked about the agricultural company

Icimoi · 10/02/2015 09:25

Oh, FFS. Last week I thought things were looking up a bit, then as soon as they got back into the court room this week everything went down the pan.

Why on earth would the prosecution witness call Danny's father after they had closed their case and in the middle of the defence evidence? There was no need to rebut Tom's evidence, Tom admitted he had lied. There was equally no need for him to explain why he was meeting Tom as it was all after the event.

Why on earth would someone looking at the defendant through the spyhole in a cell door amount to abuse of process? Yes, it shouldn't have happened. But so what? It can't conceivably affect the fairness of the trial.

There's a basic principle in advocacy that you don't ask a question unless you have a bloody good idea what the answer will be. These two highly experienced QCs seem to be constantly taken by surprise by the answers they're getting.

As for the defence barrister sleeping with her client's nephew and the cousin of the victim. FFS.

Chibnall has promised this series will end with “the cheekiest cliffhanger yet — a real shocker."

Just don't bother.

ChristyMooreRocks · 10/02/2015 09:26

Whose was the pendant originally though? I thought there were flashback shots of someone putting the pendant on pippa. I thought maybe it had originally been Claire's and she gave it to pippa, thus symbolising a close relationship or something? No one knows when that portfolio photo was taken do they?

I'm not sure Claire killed anyone but is protecting someone? Lee is just too obvious now isn't it?

Good spot about it being Pippa that the cousin hated, not the mum! Shock

I know people are taking the piss out the ridiculouness of it, but I am quite intrigued by Sandbrook now.

As for Broadchurch - well it's a foregone conclusion now isn't it? Joe will get found guilty, Danny's dad's 'big secret' is that he was going to leave Beth? Not a huge shock seeing as everyone knew he was shagging someone else? Vicar probably own shifty after all? Nige is innocent, no one else was really involved, it was all Joe? Slightly disappointing.

katese11 · 10/02/2015 09:48

dh thinks the pendant was Claire's to start with and the parents are lying about it being Pippa's
Good spot Nerf re hating Pippa...I'd assumed she was talking about the mum. Does Pippa ever get off that trampoline?
And I'm not surprised the judge considered throwing this whole thing out...It started ridiculous and is getting worse. No, a defence barrister should not sleep with a journalist/nephew of the accused/ sin of a witness/nephew of the investigating officer..

Pinkwillow · 10/02/2015 09:52

What was the point of showing us the furnace, when they didn't seem to sift through it or anything?

hackmum · 10/02/2015 09:53

icimoi: "Why on earth would the prosecution witness call Danny's father after they had closed their case and in the middle of the defence evidence?"

Yes, I was a bit taken aback by that - you can't just start switching between the prosecution case and the defence case! That's not how it works!

Re: the pendant. I think there's something going on between Claire, Lee and the older girl (sorry, keep forgetting the older girl's name). I wonder if the older girl killed Pippa, and Claire and Lee are protecting her for some reason. After all, we were led to believe in the last episode that older girl may have gone to France to be with Lee. Perhaps they had some weird kinky threesome going on or something (come on, anything is possible in Broadchurch).

The furnace in last week's episode seems to have been forgotten about in this episode but surely has some significance.

rebelfor · 10/02/2015 10:19

I'm guessing on Tom breaking down and confessing that he killed Danny to Ellie.

The fact that 'adult hands' killed him in the first series will be conveniently forgotten.

And the prosecution barrister's long lost love is the journalist.

And that wall sex? Ouch.

florencearbuthnot · 10/02/2015 10:26

Long time lurker reporting for duty.
I'm not trusting Alec's wife, in the flashback it seemed like it was a set up to leave the car so Claire could smash the window and make it look like a break in, and she seems keen to get involved now Alec is recovering from his op. I know this actress has an intense look but she look slightly unhinged when looking at the wall of doom with Ellie's workings out, is she part of the whole sandbrook shagging set? and should we be worried that she's 'looking' after him ,and leaving Ellie to fight on alone?.....

rebelfor · 10/02/2015 10:30

I know this actress has an intense look but she look slightly unhinged

She looks absolutely manic most of the time Grin

MissM · 10/02/2015 10:45

Am loling all over the place at this thread. Best bits so far:
'Did Lee put it up (him being blessed in the fence department)?'
'wall of doom'

Lee does put up a lot of fences doesn't he.

I'm fretting over the babies. When OC and horrible Tom arrived back at their house Tom sort of dumped the pram outside the front door like it was the 1950s. For all we know Fred is still out there. And how about the newborn? Wouldn't the mum (can't remember her name) be leaking milk all over the show leaving a two-week old for hours while she's at the trial?

Having said that, I quite enjoyed yesterday's episode because I found most of it feasible (as opposed to the other weeks, when most of it is entirely preposterous).

florencearbuthnot · 10/02/2015 10:47

Yes she does ,bonkers in fact (grin) What was she in my menopausal mind can't dredge it up ,something ghost?, anyone know?

phonyics · 10/02/2015 10:59

I may have missed if anyone's said this but is the "something juicy" the payment Ellie made to her sister before she agreed to share the info she had? That way the prosecution can say the police paid for "testimonials", thus adding to the case that the police were corrupt?

limitedperiodonly · 10/02/2015 11:08

Has Hardy's wife never read any of her own force's crime prevention posters about leaving valuables in sight in cars?

limitedperiodonly · 10/02/2015 11:11

I thought the garden trampolining scene was a flashback to lower-fenced times, but then I spotted the cut on Lee's eyebrow and realised it was present-day.

I knew it would be significant when it inexplicably appeared after his bout of rough sex with Claire, when he was the only one being rough.

MissM · 10/02/2015 11:14

Grin at 'lower-fenced times' (Is it just me finding fence-related postings entertaining?)

ScrambledSmegs · 10/02/2015 11:17

I know I said I was done, but I watched a bit of last night's and thought I'd see what you lot were saying. And yes, I agree Grin

So with that out of the way - "cheekiest cliffhanger ever"?!!!. Are they IDIOTS? This is NOT what we wanted! We did not want ludicrous storylines with far too many characters and strands. We want something taut, well-structured, with characters we can believe in, good writing and above all rev Rory in his underpants we want it to MAKE SENSE.

BLOODY MUPPETS. I could write a better drama than this. In fact I think I did, in my diary when I was 13 Hmm

MissM · 10/02/2015 11:19

Ewww, don't like the image of Rev Rory in his underpants one bit. Prefer the fences (and Lee putting them up in his vest).

AnnieHoo · 10/02/2015 11:24

y y Florence I don't trust her either I always though she was the BC / SB link or the copper she's having an affair with.

I didn't like the way she got rid of OC in the hospital room ( OC had hurt face).

Also camera lingered on her face when OC told her about the photo of Claire wearing the locket.

PeppermintPasty · 10/02/2015 11:33

I can't believe I'm asking this, but this is what s2 has done to me-I'm just not paying attention....who is Fred please??!!

MajesticWhine · 10/02/2015 11:37

he is Ellie's (OCs) baby son. where the hell he is most of the time, or who's looking after him, I have no idea.
