Notebooks at the ready Grin We should have enough information at the end of the first episode to start cooking up some slightly implausible theories.

In feb, you say? Fantastic! Shall look forward to more gorgeous french living dead-but-not-zombies, the sex-medium and the homeopathic dam.

ScrambledSmegs · 06/01/2015 18:46

The one we saw was Les Revenants, wasn't it? Just with subtitles.

I haven't seen an EL remake.

BOFster · 06/01/2015 18:53

Yes, the one I saw was in French.

diddl · 06/01/2015 18:57

So is it going to be too involved if it's about the trial & Hardy's old case?

Do we think that it will have been Claire who killed the girls?

So Joe pleaded not guilty just so that he can rake up everyone's secrets??

Why does everyone blame Ellie??Sad

Angelto5 · 06/01/2015 18:59

Just read this on the BBC news website-it made me laugh Grin

Marking the show four out of five, Ben Lawrence in The Telegraph said: "Broadchurch continues to be a rich and complex tapestry which respects the viewer's intelligence and commands you to become an armchair detective.

He obviously doesn't know about the criminal law practices inaccuracies.

diddl · 06/01/2015 19:01

great to see "Viv" from without a trace!

Rollergirl1 · 06/01/2015 19:04

I think the 2nd series of Les Revenant/The Reurned is still being filmed and Canal are planning to air in France at the end of 2015so don't think we'll be seeing any time soon.

Fiderer · 06/01/2015 19:19

Joe mentioned his not wanting to be in prison as a child killer more than once iirc, so maybe changing his plea is an effort to plead manslaughter? And his bringing up Danny's dad hitting Danny as some sort of mitigation as to why Danny enjoyed spending time with Joe could help his defence.

Ellie - the whole "How could you not know?" will haunt her and I think OC does a great job in gaining our sympathy without it ever feeling mawkish or contrived.

ArsenicFaceCream · 06/01/2015 19:22

Marking place with my eyes closed, while I catch up on Sky+

Fiderer · 06/01/2015 19:30

Or Joe is hoping for procedural mistakes, benefit of doubt etc., plus dad's motive, anything to get him off.

Or he really wasn't alone on the cliff top and someone else was involved.

ItsAllKickingOffPru · 06/01/2015 19:30

I think it could be Claire, yes.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/01/2015 19:48

Was Claire in the first series?
I thought the background music was too loud and some actors mumbled a bit and it was difficult to make out what they were saying.
I thought it would be better.
But I alao thought the first series was over rated.

hollyisalovelyname · 06/01/2015 19:49

Chuck I thought it was strange Ellie stayed in Claire's house too

redpriestandmozart · 06/01/2015 19:54

Having absolutely no legal knowledge I am sucked into this series already. I'm loving the music as much as the acting.

LIZS · 06/01/2015 19:58

Claire didn't appear in the first series but I think there were texts from someone who it was assumed was his ex.

AuntieMaggie · 06/01/2015 19:58

I thought it was pretty obvious that Joe was going to plead not guilty with the amount of build up with everyone arriving at court.

Remember in season 1 Ellie lied and said Danny and Tom were best friends, so did Danny's sister. Why would they do that? They're both hiding something. I don't think they lied but that Danny and Tom were best friends but had fallen out or have I made that up? I recall them falling out over Joe paying Danny so much attention?

Interesting theory about Claire murdering the cousins but why would Lee then turn up and seemingly stalk DT if it was him in the bus shelter?

diddl · 06/01/2015 20:33

I can't quite remember what happened to Danny tbh.

was he running from Joe, or did Joe kill him to stop him saying anything to anyone?

I thought about Claire as it's the old thing of the killer giving themselves an alibi iyswim.

Fiderer · 06/01/2015 20:42

Danny and Joe were in the holiday home on the cliffs, iirc, and Joe asked for a hug. Then, according to Joe, Danny recoiled, threatened to tell and fell and banged his head. Joe threw him off the cliff and cleaned up.

diddl · 06/01/2015 20:52

Ah yes, that sounds familiar.

Hope to goodness that he doesn't get away with it!

enjoy Ripper Street!

Firsttimebuyer · 06/01/2015 20:54

I'm new to Mumsnet but I've been following this forum and feeling the burning desire to join the detective club Smile I've watched the episode again this morning with your theories in mind and can definitely agree with those of you who suspect the vicar! Notice how we doesn't return to court as he has something to do... While our attention is on his relationship with the hotel owner I feel this is a pretty big clue. Especially as we don't see any of the scenes in the court after this scene. Plus when joe is explaining why he is pleading innocent the vicar is looking panic stricken saying 'but it's you who killed a child'

Showy · 06/01/2015 21:01

I'm a bit confused about The Returned then. Wikipedia reckons it's a television series based on the 2004 film. Series was made in 2012. It IS French. I've seen the 2004 film. I'll check IMDB, hang on...

Yes, it's a remake of the film. Definitely looks worth a watch.

EauRouge · 06/01/2015 21:15

Welcome to MNPD, Firsttime. You're new so you have to do the donut run Wink

Is The Returned the same thing as Resurrection? Is that the US remake?
