I'll see if I can find it.

But would it make that much difference? The family was away for some weeks over the summer of 2006, so plenty of opportunity for baddies to use it (whether associated with Ian or with Caid - the latter being slightly more plausible if Sieg was really there, though he might be the link between local French criminality and the European/Romanian gang)

BeyondTheTreelights · 16/12/2014 16:44

My guess is the big gang theory i said about a while back. Locals who go to the cdc with their 'found footage' or who visit them to purchase i.c.a.

DH is going for "and he woke up and it was all a dream"

tuckingfits · 16/12/2014 16:49

I don't know Auntie!! My brain is fried! I thought it would be Ian because of the builders/work men connection, and he would have contacted Georges to sweep into action with Sieg as the cleaner, linking the CdC in via that because he was in their pay or whatever. Now I have no idea!

AuntieStella · 16/12/2014 16:50

From the script as published on BBC website (the writersroom):

"Mais il y a quatre ans, quand on a rénové la maison, j’ai vidé la cave. J’ai amené des caisses au magasin de seconde main."

So that's 4 years ago when she had work done.

In 2006, she and her family spent the whole summer in Florida.

SomethingFunny · 16/12/2014 16:59

AuntieStella- so you think it was just Caid de Cite and Karl Seig and no one else?

I would be very disapointed if that was the outcome!!

AuntieStella · 16/12/2014 17:07

I have various theories!

All start with the idea that Ollie left the bar voluntarily to retrieve his scarf from the changing rooms.

The Sieg theory is that Sieg spotted him there and abducted him, stashing him in the back of the ProNettoyage van. He has access to the scarf, and in the time when Ollie is still alive, he learns of the characteristic big-ears drawing (that's the weak but if the theory). Ollie does not survive the night. Whilst working out what to do with the body, he is called to clean up the Clos house (which always used by Caid for some crime that night, Mark being in cahoots and the boy in the window being James) and plants evidence in the cellar.

Vincent saw Sieg with Ollie, but was scared to talk because of his own offending background, and knowledge of Sieg's local French criminal links. Ian knows or guesses this, and therefore pays for an alibi just to get the Parisian cop away from Vincent.

OR: the Caid are trying to abduct James, (as revenge or extortion over Mark) but get the wrong English boy (Ollie at that time being with his father only, so possibly confusable). The alarm goes up rapidly, and they have to dispose of Ollie.

Indianashopgirl · 16/12/2014 17:21

tuckingfits not sure who you mean re mixing up timelines. Is it me?Wink

We know that the video was 2006 showing a boy presumed to be Ollie. We know that the family who owned the house ( Madame Clos ) were away for the Summer and that the family over the road were recording a party.
The next day with the recorder still on ( I think) shot the pic of the Nettoyage van belonging to Sieg.

The scarf was around 2010 when she had the house decorated and took stuff to the second hand shop. The family bought it around Bastille Day in 2014 - I thought.

The picture we understand was drawn in 2006 - as Sieg describes it as be saw it when cleaning the house on instructions from the CdC.

My very weak argument is that we only have his word for it that it was there (and left there) even though his 'employers' are throat slitting balaclava wearing scary people. If ...... And I know it's a very big 'if' - there was a need to add to the argument that Ollie was there that night, the drawing could have been added at any point between 2006 & 2014 when Tony returns because of the scarf -which he only sees because of Sylvie's fb page.

Where my 'theory ' fails is it would mean that Sieg is in on it. Or was paid to lie and someone gained access to the cellar at a later date. Possible but too complicated and unlikely.

OK I'm bored with this myself now!!
My money's still on Georges .......(or Mark) ..........or Tony(? Did I just say that?!) only 3.5 hrs to go !!!!

Chefpepperjack · 16/12/2014 17:24

They were on holiday in 2006

They had the builders in years later, and that's when they emptied the cellar

Indianashopgirl · 16/12/2014 17:38

AuntieStella I'm liking a lot about your theory! I think the Ollie / James theory could be right and evidence planted. This is sort of what I'm hinting at re the drawing and other similar evidence... It's not definitive.

pollythepig · 16/12/2014 17:42

I've multiple theories but if I had to put money on it I would go with Mark

Moln · 16/12/2014 18:05

I have developed no theories of my own I think this means that I won't be disappointed - only disappointment will be from not getting an outcome and having to wait until now series

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/12/2014 18:09

Started new thread here for tonight

stillsingingintherain · 16/12/2014 18:12

Building on the theory that no-one saw Tony & Ollie at the pool could

a) they have gone somewhere else
b) been abducted together but Tony got away
c)or something happened to Ollie on the way to the pool..

And Tony is so guilt-ridden and scarred by what happened that he then raced to the pool and invented what we saw in the scene..

Maybe a fit far fetched?!

Just remembered this is on tonight and actually squealed out loud BlushGrin

AuntieStella · 16/12/2014 18:54

"Mark was not there on holiday and knows James was the intended abductee."

Yes, I like that theory.

But most children are abducted by a parent. Is Ollie with Greg?

Indianashopgirl · 16/12/2014 19:16

I do wonder again about the FIL when he mistook James for Ollie but put it down to him being medicated etc

Would be a great story if it was Mark & the mistaken abduction. I've wondered whether Emily arranged it because of Tony's violence....not likely, but I would love it to be Mark and something other than Georges, Sylvie or Alain or all three.
There's a lot of questions to be answered in an hour!

AuntieStella · 16/12/2014 19:28

I think we're meant to think it is the Deloix brothers at this stage.

So I'm hoping it isn't!

OttiliaVonBCup · 16/12/2014 19:31

I'm hoping for a bit of a twist too.

Too predictable otherwise.

AuntieStella · 16/12/2014 19:32

Only 90 minutes to go....

Ohmygrood · 16/12/2014 19:33

'Yellow scarf, yellow ball in pool, yellow cleaning cloth, yellow sun, yellow toy truck on Marks desk and yellow flowers next to Baptiste's bees. What does yellow signify? I thought it was cowardice.'

In ep1 Ziane is wearing a yellow t-shirt and black gilet.

Ohmygrood · 16/12/2014 19:35

I'm wondering whether Sylvie finding Ollie's picture in Tony's clothes and handing it back to him is a clue.
Could she have come across it another way?

AuntieStella · 16/12/2014 19:46

I doubt it.

It does suggest she's going into his room and through his stuff.

lacan123 · 16/12/2014 19:48

The interesting thing reading all this is that people presume they’re looking at a ‘reality’ constructed by the people in the drama. Whereas, of course, the reality is that they’re looking at a carefully constructed artificial picture - a picture constructed by the writers. Writers generally, but especially writers of ‘whodunnits’ know that readers, or viewers, look at things in this way so this way of interpreting what’s going on is ‘built in’ to the way the story, and the information in the story, is presented. The writers will do two things at the same time: they’ll build one (or several) false pictures - red herrings; and on the other hand they’ll slowly paint another picture - without it appearing to have any link to the actual main plot. At the end they’ll briefly present one of the red herring pictures as the truth, but this will then quickly be replaced by the real picture. The ‘real’ picture shouldn’t have consciously occurred to you (although I think I’ve read it somewhere on a forum); but it will immediately a) make sense and b) be satisfying as an answer. Part of the reason for this is that there has been a rehearsal of it earlier - actually more than one rehearsal. It will therefore be familiar.
