I've been watching The Missing every week since it started but I'm really late to this these threads. I should have got here sooner as it's very interesting!

I feel rather foolish though because I've barely noticed Sylvie and Alain in the programme. I haven't re-watched any episodes and a couple of times I've been knitting or something whilst it's been on, but I hadn't really registered much about them at all. If they turn out to be key to the story, I've totally missed it and need to re-watch the whole thing. They were just hotel people who were in it for not more than a few seconds every other episode. I don't remember anything about medals or AA meetings. I must have just forgotten it thinking it was unimportant.

I clearly wouldn't make a very good detective!

Realistically, how much screen time have those two had?

storynanny2 · 15/12/2014 14:51

Years ago I watched a really chilling film, basic plot was "girl" trying to avoid being caught up by "escaped convicted murderer with a grudge against girl". It was very well played and the twist at the end was..... The "girl" was actually the escaped murderer.
Think that something along these lines is going to happen tomorrow. We have been watching and sympathising with the "goodies" but maybe they are the "baddies" and we get to see events from a different point of view in the last episode.
I've bagged the living room to myself as well for tomorrow. My OH always wants to know what is going on in Corrie even though he doesn't watch it, just knows odd names eg " is Curly Watts back in it yet?"

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 15/12/2014 15:12

Monstrous, we may have over-analysed all some of the scenes and characters, so I wouldn't worry too much. We've been picking it apart for weeks and there are plenty of theories, but we are all still clueless really Grin

DD1 has a Rainbows party tomorrow night, I'll bet she'll get home all hyper and full of E numbers Hmm She'd better go to bed before 9pm!

In the house where Olly was held there are one or two unusual paintings, while art work and paints have featured quite a bit I wonder if anyone has spotted any similar work elsewhere?

Also there hasn't been anything more said about the house, no follow up, how did the people/person who took Olly know the house was emply or have access to it, the woman didn't say that there had been a break-in or if they suspected someone had been there, plus we only see her, I wonder if she is in some way related to Mark.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 15/12/2014 15:39

So, it's in France and paintings and water have been big themes..... Monet did it. Grin

Monstrous I think the fact that you've barely noticed Sylvie and Alain says it and should surely elevate them to key suspects for that reason alone. Rather like in Broadchurch when it turned out to be the detective husband wot dunnit. So it's either that or Baptiste's wife has got Ollie with the bees somewhere. Grin

SolomanDaisy · 15/12/2014 16:42

I'll not bother watching Broadchurch then... (just appeared on Netflix here).

OnlyLovers · 15/12/2014 17:16

polly, I agree; after the big fuss about tracking down the scarf to that house. there didn't seem to be any further enquiry into it beyond the forensics stuff. I'd have wanted to know all about the family who lived there, if they'd told anyone when they were going to be away, if anything had seemed odd when they got back ...

And I agree about Sylvie and Alain being kept deliberately shadowy, although Sylvie has more lines than Alain including the scene where she shows Tony the AA medal.

LillianGish · 15/12/2014 18:11

Oh no - so sorry BlushBlushBlush Thought it was so old and new one out soon and been mentioned here before. Sorry, sorry, sorry (great series but swizz of an ending)

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2014 18:28

just re watching one again, hopefully will find more clues or remind myself of stuff Grin

toldmywrath · 15/12/2014 18:29

Oh dear Lillian, that was completely accidental & has been mentioned before. The new Broadchurch is starting in January I believe.
I can't wait for tomorrow's denouement ( I don't think Monet did it Eau- although stranger things have happened Grin)

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2014 18:38

how did they get car to garage, it wasnt working, flat battery - did they push it?

and why does emily sit in the back seat with ollie and not in the front?

anonacfr · 15/12/2014 18:53

Cos lots of parents are PFB and sit with their kids in the back. My aunt did it with her daughter's PFB son. She sat in the back with him for regular 5 hr motorways journeys while her poor husband would drive. She needed to hold his DVD player apparently otherwise he couldn't watch in properly. Hmm

Oh and also he didn't ever wear a seatbelt (this is from the age of 2) because poor thing didn't like it. Hmm Angry

Anyway nice to see a fellow Walker on this thread!

Bad news is I will miss the last epi as I'm going to visit a relative in France. I will be back Thursday night and I'm sure there will be about 4 more threads by the time I watch it.

DollyTwat · 15/12/2014 18:57

malik is very certain He knows what happened to Oli. Vincent is the key to it all I think

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2014 19:09

:) miss walking :(

im working tomorrow night now, better hope twins sleep Grin as dont have sky + so cant pause or rewind :(

in pub emily says its way past his bedtime when wants to go swimming, but obv do go swimming, tho tony says garage has called and car is fixed, wondering what time it is, is the garage working later as of abroad siesta?

assuming is past 7pm

do we know what actual time ollie went missing, obv during football match, plus the missing 9 mins

Flibbertyjibbet · 15/12/2014 19:11

I know a few couples where one sits in the back with a pfb so it didn't strike me as odd.

Anonacfr. .. admit it you are going Baptiste stalking in France non?

AuntieStella · 15/12/2014 19:13

I saw on another site something that pinned down the Ollie was last seen by using the events in the match (presumably a version where everyone had the correct haircut).

I see if I can find it.

(I hadn't watched Broadchurch either, and was thinking of trying to find it ahead of a second series).

Indianashopgirl · 15/12/2014 19:28

anonacfr 'visiting a relative in a France?' Careful ... You'll be a suspect next!!Xmas Wink

I still think Malik & Ziane have history before the Oliver Hughes case. Something happened to Malik to drive him to want to solve this and it must be linked to something in his past. Whatever that thing is must be a clue to this case, mustn't it?
I agree that Vincent could also be key and have some answers. Whether he gets to tell them or Malik has to is the question as I can't see him being around much longer.
I've gone over and over the 'mistaken identity ' theory or that Mark is involved but I'm almost dismissing them now.
I've gone over the very unlikely scenarios of Tony or Emily having some involvement & can't buy it either.
I'm still wondering whether Mr Fox was used to entice Oliver.

I'm still wondering a lot of things actually!!

Broadchurch had a slightly different ending in the USA! SolomanDaisy

AuntieStella · 15/12/2014 19:30

It was the Brazil v France match on 1 July. It kicked off at 9pm (Germany and France are same time zone, aren't they?) and Thierry Henry scored in the 57th minute. So that puts it at about 10pm.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2014 19:32

aunty as in a team scored a goal, embarrassed to say i dont know who Blush, tho someone also said something about ronaldo having wrong hair cut and not 2008

if anyone wants to refresh memories

AuntieStella · 15/12/2014 19:32

"I'm still wondering whether Mr Fox was used to entice Oliver."

I don't think it can have been. We saw Fox in the hotel room with Emily whilst she was waiting for Tony and Ollie to return, and she was clutching him in the aftermath.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/12/2014 19:34

auntie stella waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past a childs bedtime then!!!! thanks for that 10pm then

and mr fox was at the bottom of the bed on a chest where emily was reading when ollie went missing

kimlo · 15/12/2014 19:49

I thought mr fox was in the car when emily went to collect it? Im sure the picture and mr fox were on the back seat. That was after ollie had gone.

Unless it had been taken from the room and put back in the car.

Indianashopgirl · 15/12/2014 20:07

I thought Mr Fox went missing for a while?
I'm not sure I really think that at all ... Just musings .... Every time I have an idea, I have another one to counteract it.

AuntieStella · 15/12/2014 20:09

Mr Fox went missing in a later episode. Not the night Ollie disappeared.
