Any scenario in which Mark switches the evidence has to include him having a French AA medal with bloodstain and lab report to hand when he set off. Possible, but a little far fetched.

He might also have had to murder Malik, so that M could not reveal truth if later interviewed by Baptiste, or simply met any of the people close to the inquiry.

But I really don't see why both Malik and Ziane gave such meaningful glances to the item. Because even allowing for stains, surely finding this in the drain does not amount to damning evidence, as a resident could have passed that bit of road at any time and for any reason.

Though perhaps the bloodstain will be the way to reveal who Ollie's biological progenitor is (Greg?). There are many aspects of the role as parent contained within this series.

TwiggyHeart · 10/12/2014 18:59

My DH thinks I'm mad but I think it's Tony. I think it was an accident of some kind. We saw very little of what happened at the pool, I think there is more to Tony than we have seen. I am still surprised that we haven't heard more about his work apart from a few passing remarks. I think everything else, the Romanian ring/Ian/the hotel are all linked to trafficking etc, this all comes out and is relevant to a second series. I think Baptiste knows or suspects what actually happened.

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 19:03

They will have had ollies dna right at the beginning of the investigation. It wouldnt be 8 years later before they said "oh btw, tony isnt his bio dad"

LauraPashley · 10/12/2014 19:09

I think mark is only being all nicey in the present day scenes as he senses he might lose Emily back to tony?

Whoreandpeace · 10/12/2014 19:19

I watched a bit of Episode 6 this morning and when Sieg is talking to Baptiste, Tony and Emily he talks about having been sent to clean up at the pool (by the same people who got him to clean up at the house) and hence why he was there when Ziane picked up the medal. So that throws the 'it's Tony' theory for me. It has to be something 'organised'. It is Caid De Site? Is it the Mayor's little troupe? Are they connected?

SomethingFunny · 10/12/2014 19:36

I feel there is a missing connection between Ian, Vincent, Alain and George to Caid de Cite.

Caid de Cite- does it mean "the boss of the city" or have I translated that incorrectly?

Who runs the town but the Mayor...

diddl · 10/12/2014 19:59

So we think that that was one of alain's sobriety medals?

Why did Malik keep it though?

Was he hoping to solve it himself/blackmail someone??

Just supposing that that was the thing that would have solved it & found Ollie!

diddl · 10/12/2014 20:10

Or did he just keep it because by the time it came back from the lab Zaine/Charmataines was in prison?

Santas3rdnipple · 10/12/2014 20:11

I know it's not real but I hope Ollie isn't dead and he's living with some fab adoptive family Sad

mewkins · 10/12/2014 20:12

He only leant it to malik who was blackmailing him for 24hrs. But then he refused to give it back.

I guess the only reason they thought it was significant was because of the he bloodstain. Why would blood get on a coin in someone's pocket anyway?

diddl · 10/12/2014 20:16

It's all going on too long for me.

And I'm getting a bit confused as to what is happening when!

rumbelina · 10/12/2014 20:32

I thought Z and M looked knowingly at the medal because of the blood. They might not have known what the object was but realised it could have massive significance.

The French police will hopefully have DNA to check the blood against.

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 20:32

I reckon ollies gonna be found alive, and i find it very annoying (even though it hasnt happened yet..)

I dont think a happy ending is at all realistic, nor would it even really be 'happy'. But i just got a vibe in the last episode that it was where the story is going

Surreyblah · 10/12/2014 20:41

Is it true that they filmed various endings?

That kind of thing pisses me off, mysteries should have an answer and clues! anything else messes viewers about (to reduce the risk of the plot being rumbled too soon or criticised)?

Unless the outcome is a relatively happy one, then will forgive them!

McButtonwillow · 10/12/2014 20:45

Can I just ask one thing- what was in the envelope handed into the police station, the one that Ziane attacked Baptiste over? Have I missed something essential?

Beveridge · 10/12/2014 20:45

Beside myself waiting for Tuesday!Grin Great thread - chuffed I have kept myself away from the spoilers one! So far...

Right, if you had an item with potentially important blood on it, wouldn't you store it a bit more carefully than just leave it kicking about a paper envelope? (This applies to Malik, Mark and Ziane). Odd how nobody has put this in so much as a plastic sandwich bag.

And what was Malik trying to ascertain with forensic tests? Without a sample of Ollie's blood (or a relatives) to compare it to, it couldn't be confirmed as much more than human blood?

Also, why did Ziane decide to give it to Malik for the 24 hours? Surely a quick glance in the envelope would tell Malik all he would need to know. Police would be doing the tests and have access to samples to compare it to (Emily's at least if not Tony's - like the different biological father angle)

Hashtag1 · 10/12/2014 20:47

I'm just re watching ep 2 and the close up of the picture of 'daddy big ears' in the house he was alleged to have been taken to. It looks to me like a picture drawn with blood using a finger. If ollie did draw it and it was done in blood, unlikely to have been his (blood)?

Ohmygrood · 10/12/2014 21:06

Emily and tony were together for 3 years after ollie disappeared. I'm surprised that they didn't have another child.

EmilyGilmore · 10/12/2014 21:09

When Mark arrives on the scene in ep 2, after they bump into Emily, he puts his son in a taxi, accompanied by another man then runs off looking very shifty and distracted. If he was on holiday with James, how was James whisked away so easily once his father was needed at work? Who is the guy in the taxi?

SirVixofVixHall · 10/12/2014 21:16

I feel as though I need to watch them all again before Tuesday!

helzapoppin2 · 10/12/2014 21:26

Anyone else notice that when Baptiste, Tony and Emily met Mark off the train when he brought the evidence, Emily didn't look very pleased to see Mark and didn't look at him? Not at all lovey dovey!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 10/12/2014 21:45

I've gone off the adoption theories; when Tony and Emily were kissing in the square, he kept saying how much Olleh looked like her. So I think he is definitely her child, although the jury's still out on this Greg character. But he hasn't been in it again so maybe he's nothing to do with the story.

I think Emily was just looking a bit shifty at the train station because she was feeling guilty about what happened with Tony.

OP posts:
Ohmygrood · 10/12/2014 22:00

So based on the scene in the square ollie is definitely Emily's child, but he might not be Tony's.

Ohmygrood · 10/12/2014 22:02

I think Emily was looking awkward at the station because she and mark have split up.

Sheitgeist · 10/12/2014 22:13

Nothing much to add here at the moment, so many plausible theories here already (my congrats to MNPD)

Just that this thread has been such fun and has actually increased my enjoyment of this programme. I will miss it after next week!
