I think bad management from CJ really is about the behaviour he models to the other troops (can you tell I'm the parent of a toddler?).
He uses rather dismissive language about Molly's gender (calling her a Doris), he makes comments about stilettos and speed dating that he wouldn't make to a male soldier. He also says 'I hope I haven't got the only medic who's afraid of the sight of blood' in front of all the other troops instead of in a more private setting. This gives an example to Kinders that this is acceptable and Kinders doesn't pull the other members is 2 section on their teasing or pranks.

Obviously there is banter etc in the army that probably wouldn't be tolerated in other settings, but so much of this is about her being female which maybe men don't think of immediately.

It's interesting that Molly doesn't make an issue of it, she pulls him up on it with a 'I don't want special treatment because I'm a female' even though she has experienced a lot of different treatment already.

Wonder why, in EP 1 they get to the FOB via helicopter but at end of EP 3 they are driving back? Plot device in EP3?

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 13/11/2014 13:14

I suspect its a plot device but also as they are handing over to the Afghan Army they probably aren't leaving the lorries behind so they drive them back to Bastion.

pixieg1rl · 13/11/2014 13:15

I think it's because the British troops are pulling out (fnar) from the FOB in ep 3 and will be taking equipment with them etc. They are relieving (fnar again) another platoon when they arrive in ep1.

icemist · 13/11/2014 13:27

ah, yes that does make sense Smile

Kinders wasn't a great Corporal- he shold have stepped in when the others were ignoring Molly- should have been dealt with before CJ asked her 'is everything alright?'

just found this on tumblr- ''So much love for Benny here. If only he’d look! I’ve told him countless times but his modesty gets the better of him. Even since we were at school he’s been modest. His agent tries to find him roles that suit him instead of roles that will make him a huge star and actually he likes it that way! Thank you for the love (and the birthday messages, I’ll make him read them when I skype him later!) Ally H-M xx

rhubarb you're a star! you should have been a detective! 10 points for understanding the Eggy-Kinders reference :-)

cherin · 13/11/2014 13:41

cherin · 13/11/2014 13:41

Icemist don't really know what to make of those comments from tumblr. The modesty comments are sweet but does it imply the agent didn't think that OG was going to make a star out of anyone. Mind you, "to thine own self be true" couldn't be more apt. In which case, keeping well away from threads like this would be highly advisable!

ihearttc · 13/11/2014 13:58

Im probably being really thick but is that picture supposed to be of who is posting that message...the bit about sitting in a hotel room eating m&m's?

Cause that picture sure looks like BA!

icemist · 13/11/2014 14:02

Photo is BA.

I guess if you want to be an actor it's not always about being in a film or on a popular tv show. But he's done 2 pilots for US networks so he must want something 'big' if one of them had made it to a series he would most likely attract the fame he doesn't seem to want?

I'm dubious about anyone who says they are his friend.

OP posts:
Nickel45 · 13/11/2014 14:03

Do you think the person actuall knows BA? I mean "Benny" .... He so doesn't seem like a "Benny"?!?!

Nickel45 · 13/11/2014 14:03

(i mean the one that sent the response not the one who posted the pic)

ihearttc · 13/11/2014 14:05

So the person that has sent the message has put a private picture of BA on there in order to post a comment and then BA's "friend" has replied to it? Is that right?

Rhubarb01 · 13/11/2014 14:06

To be honest, a good friend would probably say nothing and be just that a 'good friend'.

icemist · 13/11/2014 14:11

The photo was originally posted by someone- a fan. Then it's been commented on by 'his friend'.

The actress Ruby Benrall said on Twitter he's terrible when asked could she get him to tweet something. Which is what we've all said a while back

OP posts:
icemist · 13/11/2014 14:12

'Benny' made me giggle too. I've not seen him called that anywhere else!

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 13/11/2014 14:14

Actually, just pondering a bit more. There's a difference between sending slightly scary messages directly to the object of your adoration and taking part in a discussion thread in which we spend a large part of our time poking fun at ourselves. Yes, we can congratulate ourselves on being a cut above the average obsessives out there!

ihearttc · 13/11/2014 14:19

Ah I see...still very weird that someone felt the need to use a private picture of him to post something like that.

Yes I agree Rhubarb...this thread is so so much much than Captain James!

I actually feel quite sorry for Ben because there is a huge difference between talking about a programme like we are doing and constantly bombarding him with tweets and messages. He is obviously a very private person and has the right to remain so.

icemist · 13/11/2014 14:22

Definitely. The FB group are obsessed with getting someone to confirm there's a 2nd series. They'll announce it when they are ready not because of a sustained and frankly annoying Twitter campaign.

Least we laugh here and take the mick out of ourselves!

OP posts:
ihearttc · 13/11/2014 14:23

Lol...I know I noticed that earlier!!

Nickel45 · 13/11/2014 14:30

Completely agree! We aren't bombarding BA with messages, and even if he read what we had written on here, there isn't anything personal or talking about BA himself (mostly!) - it's CJ ... although if it had been another actor, we probably wouldn't have this thread!! I am loving the camaraderie that I find here, which is now above and beyond our adoration of CJ (or MD!), and you guys make me crack up, which is what I am needing at the moment. I wouldn't dream of contacting BA (other than the obvious birthday card!), but have no inclination to stop talking about CJ or OG.

Anyway, enough rambling!

I am sure that people who knew him when he was younger are claiming that they are best mates with him (wouldn't we all like to have a connection), but you are right, Rhubarb, if it was a real friend, they would probably not get involved.
