I'm just listening to this on the BBC World Service:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p029gwpm

Trauma at War

"They call them 'The Unexpected Survivors'. The casualties from the war in Afghanistan whose injuries were so severe that they were not expected to survive, but who survived nevertheless. In October, after 13 years Britain and the United States officially brought their combat operations in Helmand Afghanistan to an end. Camp Bastion, the coalition stronghold – once one of the largest military bases in the world – has been dismantled leaving a handful of buildings that will now be handed over to the Afghan National Army.

First established eight years ago in 2006, Camp Bastion came to host to one of the most extraordinary and successful trauma medical systems ever seen. Amongst the medics that went to and served in Afghanistan were doctors who trained with me in civilian hospitals. With the mission nearly at an end I had to see them and their system for myself, to try and understand just how it came to be and why it worked so well."

It is fascinating.

Another fab chapter from Klipdoctor. I hope he keeps writing them as he's wondering if interest in OG is declining. I'm not a member of fanfic so I hope he checks in here to see that people want more chapters.

Monopod 'partners not parents', yes that would be nice! Without nearby relatives, and our best parent friends moving away (kids had been doing sleepovers from about 3yo), it's almost impossible to get some time to ourselves without breaking the bank with babysitters.

Anyway, re Molly giving her money away: although £14K is a substatial sum, given that Smurf was willing to blow most of it on Vegas, I think Molly's decision to put it to use where £14K means far more than it does in London (or the UK generally), shows her increasing maturity.

Thanks for the link DinoSnores.

Also has anyone seen 'Afghanistan; The Lion's Last Roar'? Still on bbc iplayer. It's a documentary featuring military personnel recounting what it was really like, set against the political climate etc. also fascinating. I was quite surprised how candid some of them were about certain aspects, mistakes etc.

Before OG I would never have bothered to watch as not usually into military history and politics type programs, but it's helped me make a connection that I can relate to. So I suppose it is improving my education a bit!

I also...appreciate soldiers so much more...regardless of whys and wherefores of deployment - the risks and sacrifices they make...are humbling. I think this year on Rememberance Day I will be more appreciative.

Another thing am thinking of watching is Under Milk Wood (also on bbc iplayer!) - didn't know IR was in it. I did love the bits that they used in OG, and it's revitalised an appreciation of Dylan Thomas.

MumOfTheMoos · 04/11/2014 14:58

Just been watching episode 3 again - God CJ has lovely forearms. I love men's forearms - always have, don't know why! His are all tanned and lovely with that great big watch on as he's holding MD's face at the end of the episode (which is the bit where I really sat up and started watching - a lovely scenette) - dreamy!!

PassTheSherry · 04/11/2014 15:19

I like his forearms too. Grin

And smile.

And broad shoulders.

And voice - think I may have a thing for RP accents.

And eyes.

And the soft bits of hair at the nape of his neck when he turns away to walk on, after Molly declares her fondness for him.

It's no good, I may have to order the DVD.

Oh god, please CJ/BA have mercy on us - we need to get on with our lives!!!

icemist · 04/11/2014 15:25

PassTheSherry

PassTheSherry · 04/11/2014 15:28

Great article about the make-up effects in OG. Amazing skill and effort, but for the squeamish!www.warpaintmag.com/2014/10/09/new-model-army/

Must go - catch you laters.

PassTheSherry · 04/11/2014 15:29

NOT for the squeamish I meant, lol

PassTheSherry · 04/11/2014 15:30

Yep yep, chiselled jaw...right really must go. (Am spending day off gorging on OG universe - oh dear)

snumpy · 04/11/2014 15:56

Listening to the soundtrack on spotify (just learning how to use it) and have decided my favourite track is Stay by Lewis Watson.

What is your favourite?

monopod · 04/11/2014 16:11

Snumpy I like so many but Fail For You, People Help The People and Daughter have really stuck in my head.

icemist · 04/11/2014 16:21

love Stay- listening to it as I type
Daughter, Fate, People help the People, Strong- love it at the end of 2nd episode

I think whoever chose the music did an amazing job. the words even seem to match the storyline perfect.

furcoatbigknickers · 04/11/2014 16:23

I like Birdy, help the people, the war rages on and london grammars so g about wasting young years.

orphan · 04/11/2014 16:35

Oh yes, Stay is my favourite, but what's happening whilst it's playing may be influencing my choice!
Have been holding off ordering the dvd as am worried that if I do, there may be no hope for me. In one of the radio interviews BA suggested that there would be interviews with the cast on the DVD extras, but I don't think there are any, are there? I have signed on to tumble though just to access the lovely compilations of lip biting etcBlush

orphan · 04/11/2014 16:37

icemist · 04/11/2014 16:48

trying to convince my sister to watch OG (via twitter) so I tweeted her a photo from my stash I happened to have on my laptop for some reason and she said 'meh' wtf!! It was a lovely one of him too.... Some people have no taste!

icemist · 04/11/2014 16:51

no unfortunately no actor interviews- think they should have I'm sure more would have sold.

I may have also pinned a few photos on pinterest... I think I need counselling

icemist · 04/11/2014 16:54

I'm on tumblr Orphan I re-blog lot of stuff for OG- actually prob thats all I use it for It was good in the run up to the last 2 episodes.

ihearttc · 04/11/2014 16:56

My favourite song is Strong...London Grammar. If Im correct I think its playing when she is leaving in the helicopter and I absolutely love that bit-not that she is leaving but seeing all the emotions on CJ's face.

It's so disappointing that my friends aren't OG fanatics. I'd have liked marathon episode watching/wine drinking/lip biting analysis evenings with them. Maybe I need new friends?

ihearttc · 04/11/2014 17:06

You have us :-)

Only problem is I imagine non of us are close enough to do that lol!
