A new thread for all things Our Girl as we have already filled up another thread discussing everything to do with the show.

New chapter from klipdoctor on fanfiction is excellent.

And ihearttc have just watched restaurant scene again - yep that little exchange is definitely still the best...

One of my favourite scenes is when Molly and Smurf try to tell CJ about the intelligence from Bashira, but the music corp arrive and he tells them its gonna have to wait. Always makes me smile!

Thanks Mandy 214 will check the Captains Log out in a mo.

On the 'we're nearly there' scene I noticed that she was wearing her MC medal which she did not have on at the funeral. That says to me the scene is not set directly after the funeral but after she has been to the palace.

Klipdoctor's fan fiction is fantastic. Love the new stuff

OMG, panicked when I found out the thread had been closed. This is the first one I've ever joined and wasn't sure I'd be able to find the new one but here I am. Not been able to look at this since I posted about the Radio One interview and am (pleasantly) surprised that we have more newcomers in the last few hours. I wonder how we've managed to hunt these people out, nine days after the series ended!

My two favourite lines are "Come back to me" (it makes my insides turn all warm and gooey and I have heard it at least 30 times a few times now and "I hope that's not a euphemism Dawes". But in all honesty, I love all their dialogue up to the funeral scenes, which, as we discussed in the previous thread, I found rather stilted and false.

After my limited success with Ben's management agency, I am thinking of writing to - say - Simon Mayo on Radio Two. I wonder why Radio One get to interview him - do you think the BBC believes the programme would appeal to the younger element?

Ah good theory SP but a trip to the Palace to receive a medal would be in No 1 dress (blues) not No 2s (what she's wearing)

I really think he says "you're nearly there" - it doesn't really make sense to say "we're nearly there" (as much as I want him to have said that!) bearing in mind he's talking about her sorting everything out, and previously he's talked about her finishing her journey etc. To throw himself in there in the form of "we" would be a bit arrogant (which we know he's not) and self centred in my view - that bit is about her not them.

So glad I found you again - I was having palpitations that I'd lost the thread.
I've been enjoying all the in depth analysis SO much that I just had to de-lurk again. I love the restaurant scene and all the little glances they keep exchanging. For some reason, I particularly love the jokey comment CJ makes after kissing Molly's hand, about not wanting to dirty the napkin. There's just something about the way he says it...
Reading the scripts is good, but I really, really need a whopping great novel of the series.

Thanks for the link, icemist. :-)

I think a) the Beeb were trying to appeal to a younger audience with Our Girl (over Downton) and b) they largely succeeded - the twitter response has been extreme and positive but almost exclusively young women (ie late teens/early twenties) and finally c) they don't seem to realise that there are plenty more ever so slightly older women (and men) out there who've loved it just as much. Hopefully, we're doing our bit to prove that!

Anyway, I think that's why they're aiming for the Radio One audience.

He definitely needs to do some TV ... A breakfast show or Graham Norton as has been said. How about Loose Women? They'd eat him alive! (Did someone suggest that before? I think they may have.)

I read it somewhere that the series was aimed at the 18-25 yr age group. Prob why he's going on radio 1. Prob just as well- researchers on that show might not look on mumsnet at all our lusting discussion of the serious aspects of the series and just look at Twitter (hoping I have not mentioned making a calendar on there)

Orphan I said a while back about the bit with the cabbage and the napkin - I love that bit! It was so unexpected it really made me laugh. Again - came across as incredibly natural and almost as though it wasn't scripted but just happened.

I quite like the scene in Ep 2 where CJ has to wake her in the middle of the night for a briefing about the intel she received. When he enters the tent you can see him just watch her sleep for the briefest of moments and it makes you wonder what he's thinking.

Richtea19 · 28/10/2014 23:01

So much activity, and many more points to ponder. I am still sure he says we're nearly there, but maybe that is my wishful thinking that he is planning their future together.

Another scene that seems natural like "what's funny" is In Ep 2 while discussing 2 sections entertainment. I need a one femail volunteer, "Dawes.... lovely" . Just the way he says lovely seems unscripted and natural.

Must read more fan fiction. Was kilpdoctor the filthy one? As much preferred that the captains log.!

orphan · 28/10/2014 23:03

Can I just ask why do you think he had to push Molly into the cupboard when Smurf knocked? Wouldit have been so compromising to have been found together? Was it purely for plot device reasons?

icemist I think we decided against Loose Women. I've written to Graham Norton and Chris Evans but will try Simon Mayo on the Drivetime show on Radio 2 as well tomorrow.

I have decided I am almost as addicted to MN and our discussions as I am to all five episodes of the series. The only difference is that I can access MN at work (albeit surreptitiously) but need to watch the programmes in the comfort of my own home! I almost went into a depression when I realised the previous thread had been closed.

Thanks for the link Icemist - when they say post production script, what exactly does that mean. Because obviously it's got all the edit timings in it, which they wouldn't know until they've actually edited it, wound they?

I wouldn't know which one you're talking about Richtea but its called My Man by Laurielove

icemist · 28/10/2014 23:11

I'd say plot device orphan

I'm sure there could have been a valid reason for her being there

I found the Klipdoctor fanfiction, but does anyone know how to find the others, as I am sure there was a link before to some others?

Thanks Mandy! Light reading before bed!

Report
icemist · 28/10/2014 23:13

Post production would be what's aired. I'd love to see the original ones.
So there is probably missing scenes. Wonder if ep 5 should have been done over 2 episodes but they edited into one?

Thanks for the correction PassTheCremeEggs. I assume the medal is another continuity error then. The main issue I have now though is that I have not seen Molly in her No 1 dress. Can anyone describe it so I can start constructing a mental picture? (To go with all the othersSmile)

Best lines by CJ:
"I want you to be brilliant"

That's also a good un, innit? :-)

richtea if you put Fan Fiction Our Girl into google it should take you to the page - there are about 70 stories, some better than others but some very well written ones. I think the Captains Log is written from a male perspective and sticks quite closely to the script, some of the others are much more creative with the storylines. Be aware you can lose hours Grin
