A new thread for all things Our Girl as we have already filled up another thread discussing everything to do with the show.

How did Molly know the Rebecca's name? Did CJ realise she must have read the divorce papers?

furcoatbigknickers · 31/10/2014 10:45

I think he was too drugged up to notice that M knew his wifes name. He looked hot, all naked and dopey.Blush< ooo I'm getting a bit warm

monopod · 31/10/2014 13:45

Delurking to confess my love for this programme too and to tell furcoatbigknickers that that scene is one of my favourites! He looks like he's about to cry just looking at her and I love the way he holds his hand out to her and how she strokes his hair Smile

This whole past year has actually been one of actively taking control to change things I've been unhappy about in my life, but I've been really quite astounded to realise that there's still lots more that I feel I want to change. I've been tackling the bits that address job and career but now I also realise that I feel old and unattractive and I want to feel gorgeous (for fictional CJ Wink)

Candypop I don't think Molly would have taken the ring either, even though she was in emotional turmoil over the wife revelation. She already knew Smurf loved her, even before the whole wardrobe incident, but after overhearing his intentions, surely she'd be even more careful not to give him even the merest glimmer of hope.
One question that is unresolved for me is just how much of the truth about what triggered Smurf's meltdown, came out in the aftermath of the shooting. We briefly see the end of Molly's 'debrief' when she says she wishes it had been her who was shot, but we don't really find out how much Major Beck and the others know. Presumably, CJ once he was well enough would have to have explained what went on, as would Smurf himself.Did they both fudge the facts (which is something I can't really believe CJ would do) or come clean about Molly and CJ? But if they did tell the truth, wouldn't there be massive repercussions (which also we don't see)? I'm not quite sure how to interpret the exchange between Molly and Kinders at the hospital when she says "We all know what happened" and Kinders says he wants to make sure there are no repercussions for Smurf. Basically, what I am trying to say in a very convoluted way,is that it all seems a bit unresolved for me. The final episode definitely seemed rushed to me: too much was squeezed in and I think it would have benefited from a further episode.
I suppose the downside for Tony Grounds of our Our Girl obsession is that we do pick the plot apart, whereas a lesser liked programme would just be forgotten about!

CLA1978 · 31/10/2014 14:43

Having stalked this thread for days I've decided to join and say hello ??. I too share your love (obsession) with all things CJ and MD. Absolutely loved this series and watched it through at least 6 times. Was thinking about MD age and when she talks about Rolex Boy being 18 she refers to him as just a child. Does this mean she must be a few yrs older as surely if she was only 19 then 18 would be hardly any different? Also. Unsure if your on FB but BA is and his photos etc arnt set to private ?? Benjamin... X

klj78 · 31/10/2014 14:50

I think the presumption is that Smurf has mental health issues due to his brothers death ... I don't think the love triangle needed to come into the debrief, I.e Smurf shot the goat because of his hatred of the Taliban and not seeing things in a rationale way due to his brother, there would be no need to mention his love for Molly and seeing Molly and CJ kissing tipped him over the edge. He had already behaved in an irrational way earlier in the series and there would be medical records to back that up. He was to have counselling before he was released from the Army.

Ilovelblue · 31/10/2014 14:51

I'm disappointed if it's not going to be just Ben on his own. I suppose when I emailed his agency, I did only ask about him to be fair and the others will have different PR people. I may not be able to listen on Monday so if I record it, maybe somebody could let me know what time it is on - the idea of sitting through 3 hrs of Nick Grimshaw is not appealing!?

Had a few medical appointments over this past fortnight and was back again today. When it came to the part where I had to try and think of something more pleasant (and less painful!), no prizes for guessing where my mind was......

Will respond to the essay later when I have a bit more time to ponder on it all.

orphan · 31/10/2014 15:00

icemist You mentioned earlier that Smurf was reluctant to talk about CJ when he and Molly were on their holiday, but I didn't get that impression. I just felt he was oblivious to what Molly was really thinking about and making references to. It was Smurf who initially brought up CJ when they were at Laugharne, telling Molly about him reading Dylan Thomas and always knowing what to do to make things right. I like it that in the script it says that finding out CJ was there changes Molly's reaction to the place. Poor Smurf!

firegirl · 31/10/2014 15:06

The exchange between Molly and Kinders in the hospital seems to indicate that Kinders has no idea about her and CJ. She apologises for going off on her own once the plane had landed and he assumes it was because she was desperate to see Smurf. So in response to orphan I don't think anyone has any idea about them.

PassTheCremeEggs · 31/10/2014 15:07

Welcome CLA! Rolex boy - we're meant to understand he's not 18, he's probably more like 14 or 15. CJ says later to Molly that he would have said he was 18 otherwise he wouldn't have been allowed to enlist - the implication being that he isn't 18. And that's why he's shifty answering when she asks him how old he is.

orphan · 31/10/2014 15:10

klj78 But do you think CJ would feel right about not coming clean? He must be feeling so guilty, remembering Smurf's devastating reply "You did" when told not to bring the personal into the battlefield.

icemist · 31/10/2014 15:14

Lots to ponder while I'm at work this afternoon. Will reply to all musings later. Hope BA is a bit more forthcoming on radio- I bet all questions will be for him

orphan · 31/10/2014 15:16

I know CJ resigns his commission because he feels he's let everyone down, but I just think he'd probably want to confess as well - though maybe his need to protect Molly is greater.

klj78 · 31/10/2014 15:35

orphan I think that's a good point. But I suppose if he did confess it would have been to people much higher up in the chain of command than Kinders or anyone else in 2 section and it would be up to the powers that be to decide whether to take things further. By resigning his commission (as we have no reason to believe he hasn't) they can quite easily just not take things further. Smurf is leaving anyway (after treatment, they aren't just chucking him out!) and Molly has a promising career I front of her. It goes back to the whole feeling that the last episode tried to squeeze too much in. I think that generally we weren't supposed to dissect the plot so much!

furcoatbigknickers · 31/10/2014 15:51

I love when she touches his hair to mono. He looks at her with thoses beautiful brown eyes... Amazing!

Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2014 17:03

I don't think CJ would tell the whole truth about what happened even if he resigned. He feels guilty and wouldn't want to hurt the prospects of either Smurf or Molly. He doesn't know at the time he says he's going to resign that Smurf intends to leave the army and he probably thinks that Molly has a great future ahead of her if she stays in.

On another slightly repetitious theme of mine about the ages of CJ and Molly do you think that the casting of two actors who are quite close in age made the romance more believable. Given that we've come to the conclusion that there is supposed to be about a ten year age gap, if we had seen two actors who actually reflected the age difference, do you think it might have been less believable.

Richtea19 · 31/10/2014 17:04

I am sure that Kinders had no idea of any romance between CJ and MD. In Cypress he had the wrong end of the stick thinking she was keen on Smurf and again when she rushed to the hosp he thought it was to see Smurf, and also perhaps he had seen the ring around her neck? If CJ did resign I am sure he would of had to give a plausible reason (other than nearly loosing his life!) I don't think he would of admitted the feelings he had for Molly, but perhaps not being able to control Smurf and not noticing the issues he was dealing with since his brothers death. I don't think anyone was aware other than Smurf. On the bridge when Smurf said "you did" nobody else would of heard.

Yes the whole ring around neck is puzzling, continuity?

Disappointing about other cast members on radio 1 show. Although we might find out a bit more, as I am sure that BA is going to be really shy (makes me love him even more!)

Mono, furcoat - those brown eyes, stood out even more against is pale dewy skin, laying helpless in the bed, reaching his hand out to Molly...... Need a FanFiction Fix!!!!!!

I've been listening to the spotify playlist this afternoon, I appear to have two, one by Pollyanna and the other by Lenny Libitz. The Lenny one has more tracks 45 I think. However some of them I don't remember from the series. What's everyone else listening too?

Home alone tonight... Wine and a CJ fix, yipppeeeee x

ihearttc · 31/10/2014 17:05

My day has consisted of an impromptu visit to London so will catch up on thread later when home! We ended up in Regent Street and DH said he needed to pop into Nespresso shop(he usually gets it online)...I asked him to get Rosabaya and he said No!! Spoilsport!!

Welcome CLA and any other newcomers... I didn't think BA was on FB?? I did have a quick look a few weeks ago but I felt extremely uncomfortable looking for private stuff... I think that was what we agreed on the other thread didn't we?

Richtea19 · 31/10/2014 17:08

Ditto! On the FB stuff. Feels wrong. I did order Rosabaya! But did it on line! Not quite the same when DH makes it for me though! ??

icemist · 31/10/2014 17:58

Someone has posted on Twitter it's BA and Iwan Rheon on the breakfast show. Will rt it for those who follow me

icemist · 31/10/2014 17:59

It's on at 07:45! When I'm on my way to work so hopefully I'll get to hear it live!!!

orphan · 31/10/2014 18:07

Gosh, all this talk of his brown eyes has prompted a quick rewatch of some clips. (Am home alone at the mo, so can safely indulge.) Am in awe at BA's ability to convey such intense emotions through those gorgeous brown eyes! In the restaurant scene, his desire for Molly is palpable when he looks at her. And I love the song that plays when they go to his house.
Can't believe my obsession hasn't waned yet. I remember feeling a bit like this after watching Richard Armitage in North and South a few years back, but I'm sure it wasn't as all consuming! I blame menopausal hormones and discovering a forum that enables and fuels the obsession!

Smurfingreat · 31/10/2014 18:12

Guys - we have a shout out in the authors notes in the new chapter of Captains Log!

Can't work out how to do link on an iPad, can someone else do it for me please?

Rhubarb01 · 31/10/2014 18:14

I was just taking a look at Klipdoctor's Captains Log on Fanfiction and had a little difficulty finding it. When I searched by writer I found a piece he'd written about himself three days ago which seemed to suggest that Captain's Log is going to be published (by which I think he meant properly published). I may have read it wrong but if that is what has happened its a good result!

cherin · 31/10/2014 18:15

Also lets be honest...as good as an actor armitage is (and as captivating as the story is...after all the book is a masterpiece!), his character is a lot sterner and he's not in uniform etc etc ;-)
