... well, depending upon how much we talk!

Carrying on from thread one.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/10/2014 23:36

Do you mean the guest singer and his balaclava thing? I wondered. My DF thinks he had an op at some point and started wearing it after that, and has never stopped.

I forgot about Monkseal Shock

FrankelandFilly · 07/10/2014 09:00

I miss James' dancing, he was one of the few male pros who, in my opinion, got the balance of masculinity and fluidity just right in Latin. All too often the male dancers are too "soft". I don't miss James' attitude.

The bloke in the hat looks like Phil Jupitus' long lost brother Grin

Justgotosleepnow · 07/10/2014 12:10

Ah thanks for the hat info, I was a bit puzzled.

I agree about the questionable sparkly jumper. And poor scott mills in his desperately unflattering trousers. Poor bloke Hmm

I looked up pixie on wiki- she's been in stage school since she was 5. Sorry but no one stands a chance against her. She's spotting her head etc, she just has all the dance basics already. And clearly she's bright, her dippy little girl act is a bit irritating.

And I'm LOVING Tess & Claudia presenting. Why not promote Tess to lead presenter? She's been the sidekick for too long. She carried the show anyway as Bruce wouldn't wear an ear piece. I am genuinely shocked how sexist all the comments are on Facebook strictly page about 2 women presenting the show. It's awful. Well done bbc.

trinitybleu · 07/10/2014 19:40

Has anyone been watching Alfonso Ribeiro on DWTS? Utterly amazing and so funny. Have a peep on YouTube (even tho he was a tap dancer when he was a teenager Smile )

ThursdayLast · 07/10/2014 19:45

How do you get to watch DWTS?
I have seen the Carlton dance doing the rounds on FB and I LOVE it Grin

trinitybleu · 08/10/2014 06:52

Just the clips on YouTube. I like the humour he gets into it. And although he did " the Carlton" this week, it was a very precise and timed version ... the FPOBA version was always a bit manic! Grin

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2014 12:55

Justgottosleep Agree about Pixie but also Caroline and the Saturday's girl they are good and obviously previously trained. As we said upthread we're wondering if the marking should be different (maybe handicapping the semi-pros somehow).

I love Claud; she could carry the show no problem, and I like Tess but maybe she lacks confidence.

OnlyLovers · 08/10/2014 13:04

I don't get too exercised about the people with training, TBH. They go far because the judges love them and save them from the dance-off, but never really win because in the final it's up to the public, and the public obviously shares the MN majority view and considers training an unfair advantage.

The likes of Natalie, Denise and Emma Bunton made the final but were booted out first, as soon as viewers got the vote.

So as long as they keep the viewer vote I predict the ones with obvious performance backgrounds and advantages will continue to fall foul of the viewer vote. We only need worry if they decide to ditch it or give the judges yet more power. I already disapprove of the dance-off and think it should be an absolutely even 50/50 split; the judges get their say –let the public have theirs and don't interfere!.

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2014 13:07

Did we wonder if the girl who won last year was trained? I liked her but she was bloody good!

OnlyLovers · 08/10/2014 13:10

I think I read that she started having lessons when she was signed up for Strictly, although I don't know if it's true.

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2014 13:36

Yeah !! Maybe did ballet as a L.O. or something! Of course she's performer so has that confidence too (not frightened by the crowd like poor Judy!).

impomea · 08/10/2014 15:20

I think Claud and Tess should change places,it would work much better.Bruce may have been cringy but so are Tess's attempts at humour.

Justgotosleepnow · 08/10/2014 15:23

Only that's a good point. Mumsnet will prevail! Grin

OnlyLovers · 08/10/2014 15:50

impomea, but Claudia is so much better than Tess at the upstairs bits. They all seem to genuinely like her and it all feels much warmer and more spontaneous than when Tess does it.

I agree Tess isn't that good at the main presenting bit either though. Don't know what the answer is, really. Grin

MsInterpret · 08/10/2014 16:06

Movie Week choices popped up on my FB feed.

What do we think?

Alison and Aljaz will be Jiving back to the 80s as they rock out to Kenny Loggin’s ‘Footloose’ from the film of the same name.

Caroline and Pasha will perform the Rumba to Aerosmith’s ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ from 1998’s ‘Armageddon’.

Frankie and Kevin will dance the Paso Doble to ‘America’ from the brilliant Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim musical ‘West Side Story’.

Jake and Janette are Waltzing to the ‘Godfather Waltz’ by Nina Rota from the unforgettable mobster flick ‘The Godfather’.

Jennifer and Tristan will perform the Foxtrot to Abba’s ‘Mamma Mia’ from the film of the same name.

Judy and Anton will be Quickstepping to ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ originally sung by Barbra Streisand in the film ‘Funny Girl’.

Mark and Karen are performing the Paso Doble to the John Williams penned theme from ‘Superman’.

Pixie and Trent will Quickstep to ‘Be Our Guest’ from Disney’s enchanting ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

Scott and Joanne will dance the Samba to ‘Under the Sea’ from another Disney classic ‘The Little Mermaid’.

Simon and Kristina perform the Rumba to Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’ from the film ‘Top Gun’.

Steve and Ola will be Quickstepping to the joyous ‘I Wanna Be Like You’ from Disney’s ‘Jungle Book’.

Sunetra and Brendan are performing the American Smooth to ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ originally sung by Fred Astaire in ‘Swing Time’.

Tim and Natalie will be dancing the Charleston to ‘Money, Money’ from the Bob Fosse musical ‘Cabaret’.

Thom and Iveta will also perform the Charleston to ‘New York, New York’ from the soundtrack of the Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra musical ‘On The Town’.

MsInterpret · 08/10/2014 16:07

Didn't someone predict I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing'? And not in a good way...

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2014 16:13

MsInterpret Thanks Grin

LOVE LOVE LOVE the majority of that music esp. West Side Story Grin surprisingly a good list!!

OnlyLovers · 08/10/2014 18:00

Can't wait for the ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’ rumba! I love a power ballad. Grin

Looking forward to the rumba to ‘Take My Breath Away’ too.

Dreading Judy's quickstep already. Sorry Jude, but you'll be BAD.

MintyChops · 08/10/2014 18:38

Monkseal.

I actually had a baby on Sunday lunchtime but cleverly recorded the show so I had Strictly company during Saturday night.... Alas I have no observations on the show, all a bit of a blur.....

ThursdayLast · 08/10/2014 19:08

Aaaah congratulations minty!
I insisted on having the moto gp on when I was in labour Blush.
I had to watch it two of three times over in the end!

MsInterpret · 08/10/2014 21:47

Congratulations Minty!Thanks

I have fond memories of cluster feeding newborn dd2 through strictly marathons of two years ago.

Snuggle up!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 09/10/2014 07:31

Congratulations Minty! Thanks

It's quite a Disney-heavy week Grin Not sure about New York, New York for a charleston, it's normally a foxtrot, so they might have to mess around a bit with it.

Not entirely sure about I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, but we'll see.

Minty Congratulations ! are you going to give yr baby a Strictly name? !!!

MintyChops · 09/10/2014 22:01

Having rewateched it, I would almost go back and call him Jake. It would be a lot for him to live up to though......
