New thread for the US open.

Am hoping to get round to seeing some of it, but in the meantime, I am limbering up my refresh finger. Grin

I know- clearly Rory and Wozza were not good for each other's careers. Although the way it ended was pretty crap.

And I agree about Ferrer- just watching last night, I can imagine so many players who would have either retired, or at the very least has a medical time out. I agree with whoever said, on whichever thread it was Grin that he is underrated. I know he's getting on (in tennis terms) so I hope whatever is wrong- and he's not been right for a while- will not mean we see less of him.

Ferrer, more than any other player (who hasnt won a GS)is the one who deserves at least ONE grand slam title.

until Stan wona GS he was always understudy and largely ignored by being eclipsed by the Fed, and I think Ferrer is same with nadal, he shouldn't be of course.

The curse of being your country's Number 2 player . (Although it's less pressure if you're a BritGrin).

First set Murray, but Tsonga has a break in the second.

I'm really upset. Really really upset :( This Paul Ross dogging stuff? I know the other family involved, ie the Oliviers. I haven't seen Mrs O for about a year but she is one of the bravest ladies I know. And Barry too is, so I thought, a lovely man :(

Raahh · 01/09/2014 21:47

oh, god, Juan- hope you are ok. I must admit I haven't read too much into it, but it's horrible when it suddenly feels close to home.

OP posts:
JuanPotatoTwo · 01/09/2014 22:01

Thank you raahh. Compared to what that poor family are going through I am absolutely fine. But upset, so, upset. Ds1 had said a few days ago that he thought something was bothering the Olivier son who is his mate as he has been very quiet lately. Now we know why :(

Raahh · 01/09/2014 22:03

Sad It is always the family who suffer when things like this happen. I hope they have a lot of support. Of course, bring in the media glare won't help. Bloody tabloidsHmm.

JuanPotatoTwo · 01/09/2014 22:15

The local paper comes out on Thursday. It'll be front page headlines I'll bet. I feel sick for them.

Raahh · 01/09/2014 22:16

Oh, horrible. Sad

DramaAlpaca · 01/09/2014 22:22

Juan that's awful. It's horrible when this sort of stuff happens to someone you know. I haven't read any of the stories except on here, but it sounds like the tabloids are having a field day. Vile vultures. Hope you are OK.

JuanPotatoTwo · 01/09/2014 22:39

Thank you both. I guess I sound over the top but, honestly, they are such a lovely family. There are 4 dc and one of them is severely physically and mentally handicapped. Both parents have been utterly devoted to him, as have the other 3 dc (the youngest is 20 now). Barry will be utterly reviled and Mrs O (don't want to reveal her name) won't want to show her face. They have had such a hard time of it but never complain.

JuanPotatoTwo · 02/09/2014 20:58

Feeling much calmer today about everything :) Except, and it's a big except, for bloody fecking Eurosport. Can't load any tennis but I guess, even if I could, they wouldn't be showing anything live. Or are they? Rip off merchants

JuanPotatoTwo · 02/09/2014 21:00

Who the heck are Gordon and Bonar? Never heard of either of those. I see Simon has taken first set v Cilic. Bit conflicted about that match, would like them both to win :)

Raahh · 02/09/2014 22:03

Evening Juan- hope you're ok. It's a crap situation.

Monfils, the sly old dog has beaten Grigor. Bit conflicted there.

Simon and Cilic- I like both. I slightly prefer Cilic, If we get glimpses of Goran ;Wink

AnyoneForTARDIS · 03/09/2014 18:18

what was going on with monfil last night?

I was switching between his match and the eurosport one with Cilic/Simon and just caught Monfil stand right in the bassline and throw away a point for Grig to get the game? then have a strop about something? Tennis

I bloody HATE Eurosport. Ok, so I've made do with mainly replays all week- but we are getting to the business end of the tournament and they are showing....

...Tour of Alberta cycling. Bike

FFS.

Angry Tennis

And the Stan/Kei match looks really good (from the scoreline, anyway).

C'mon Stan!!

(I hope he's ironed his short. Because of course I can't see if he has ironed his shirtAngry).

Come on Andy. Brew Tennis

Raahh · 04/09/2014 07:35

Djok beat Andy pretty easily once he took hold.

Interesting match ups in prospect- could either have completely new contenders for the US title, or Djok/Fed (not as unusual- but Fed will be keen to win after Wimbledon.

I'm fine thanks raahh - however, have yet to see today's local paper :(

Let's do a raid on Eurosport headquarters (wherever they are). I'll force them to make it easier for people to cancel subs, and you force them to improve their service. And if they refuse we'll, um, I'll have to think of a suitable sanction. But whatever it is it won't be pleasant.

Glad to see Djok through. He's got to win so he can bore Baby Djok in years to come with tales of the glory years just before he was born :)

Raahh · 04/09/2014 20:24

Oooh! Cilic is doing well against Boring Berdych Grin

OP posts:
JuanPotatoTwo · 04/09/2014 20:44
