New thread for the US open.

Am hoping to get round to seeing some of it, but in the meantime, I am limbering up my refresh finger. Grin

Excellent result :)

Just seen the scoreline for the Fed match- that looked like another good one I didn't 'see'. Sad Feel sorry for Monfils, but tbh that's the story of his career- he does seem capable of just either giving up, or giving whole sets away on a whim.

I just can't believe that after last year, when Fed really seemed out of it all, he's come back to this. Good old Stefan. Grin

But Nadal is missing of course Wink

Fed isn't allowed to get much further, though. He will leap frog Rafa in the rankings if he wins the tournament. Not having that!

Wonder if Rafa will wear his sleeveless tops in Shanghai (assuming he goes?).

Probably won't be able to see it anyway!! GrinGrin

So, I'm liking the look of a Cilic/Djok final. Don't want Nishikori in it.

Let Marin win the title, that will stir things up a bit (even if he can't read labels Wink).

Saw a clip on BBC news of Cilic ' s reaction when he won - he was delighted (unsurprisingly).

I should be able to watch most of the Asian Swing on TennisTv - I'll keep you posted re Rafa's outfits :) Despite it not showing the majors, it does show most of the other smaller tournaments which is brilliant. If tennis is your thing (which for anyone reading this thread it will be :)) I would really recommend it.

Thorn Birds is a book by Colleen McCullough where a priest falls in love with the heroine. Haven't read it for years so can't remember all the details except for something to do with a rented cottage, a deserted beach and sex :)

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/09/2014 17:45

Oops, majorly wrong thread Blush

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/09/2014 17:58

A deserted Argentinian beach, Juan?

AnyoneForTARDIS · 05/09/2014 18:09

"I still thought the finish line was far away for Gael," said Federer on falling two sets behind.

what do you make of that line from the Fed?

Raahh · 05/09/2014 18:27

I think i understand what Fed is saying (although it will probably be taken as evidence of Roger being a bit arrogant).

I think he's saying that although Gael had the upper hand- he still hadn't won, and had not been in that position before. Psychologically, it's a big thing to win that 3rd set. Roger has the experience- and is super cool under pressure.

Or, it could just be Roger being a bit arrogant Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/09/2014 18:46

As much as I like Rog, it does sound a bit cheeky. There are probably better ways of saying the same thing.

Raahh · 05/09/2014 18:48

It may have been lost in translationWink

Not a Rog fan at all, though. I'd have loved to see Gael win.

I never used to like him as I thought he was so up himself, strutting like a peacock in his monogrammed outfit etc, but I thought he'd mellowed and humbled a bit more after not being king of the castle for a long time.

and was liking him like that.

and with Stefan who was always so modest, thought hed be a good influence.

hope the peacock feathers aren't back!

AnyoneForTARDIS · 05/09/2014 21:29

O dear, poor Peng, she was really in pain.

mind you if the incredible sulk gets to final, then Wozza to win!

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/09/2014 23:26

Any beach Clay if Pot is there :)

I think Roger is not so much arrogant as displaying more confidence in the last year or so and believing in himself. Telling it like he saw it without being falsely modest.

JuanPotatoTwo · 05/09/2014 23:33

Do you think there's any chance the semis and finals will be shown on terrestrial TV?

Raahh · 06/09/2014 09:37

Probably less than not much chance of that Juan- since Murray isn't involved. Sad.They only seem to want to show it, if there is British interest- like that's the only reason people watch. It's not bloody football [grumpy]. I mean, it's the middle of the night, and there's nowt else on worth watching, but they probably can't get the rights.

Bastard selfish Sky Grin

I also agree that Rog is feeling more confident- must have been awful for him last year- feeling his form slipping away, and injured as well. Everyone obsessed with the 'r' word. He has good reason to be feeling confident.

No - but I bet they would had Murray been in them!

I've only followed this via the papers & you lot, so haven't been that involved.

Suspect we'll get a Djok/Fed final & I'd like to see Roger win.

Raahh · 06/09/2014 18:26

So nearly one set all with Djok, and NIshikori. C'mon Djok!

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/09/2014 19:34

Oh no!! This is not good. Get a grip, Djok!

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/09/2014 20:09

Kei Nishikori has won- well blow me!

I think Djok needs to go on an extended honeymoon/paternity leave.

Til after Christmas.
