I like Kay Mellor and it has a great cast. Anyone else giving it a go?

OP posts:
BertieBotts · 03/09/2014 14:36

I wondered if the FIL was her husband's solicitor? She certainly looked totally horrified.

All the slo mo at the end was a bit cheesy. Like they had run out of stuff to fill up the episode so they had to drag it out Grin

Southeastdweller · 03/09/2014 15:22

I think she's shagged him as we saw a meaningful look between them and in the preview of next week's episode he gives her a present.

Doobledootch · 03/09/2014 16:13

Another episode spent eye-rolling at those medical procedures, I'd rather give birth in the middle of a dual carriage way than in that hospital Grin

Looking forward to seeing how it all ends next week though Blush Do you think there'll be another series?

Doobledootch · 03/09/2014 16:16

Also I think the pregnant midwife is quite a bit behind the others so if she does give birth next week then it will be very early I think. Also WHO is that flippant over their relationship status with their babies father Hmm

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/09/2014 17:32

That's what I meant about how long the series had gone on - not in real time, but on the show. They were still was she/wasn't she in the first couple of episodes.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 03/09/2014 17:53

Some of it is so unrealistic, it's stupid, but Dev learning the baby was his, was so emotional. I almost cried.

Lambstales · 03/09/2014 18:09

Did the Doctor say that the baby wasn't a carrier, or didn't have haemophilia?

The Doctor is separated from his wife, like Mr Rochester in Jane Eyre. (Imagination running wild Grin.) Why not use a good storyline......

Lambstales · 03/09/2014 18:12

Dev may not understand the difference atm. but when he starts reading..... and the hair changes.....
I'll shut up now!

CateBlanket · 03/09/2014 18:12

I can't believe no-one has mentioned pregnant mid wife's false eyelashes Shock They deserve a spin off series all of their own!

AuntieStella · 03/09/2014 18:12

I thought PG MW had a (sinister?) twinge, so perhaps not plain sailing for her. And then perhaps asshat doctor will propose when all is in crisis. And she'll have the guts to tell him to fuck off.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/09/2014 19:28

Very few girls have haemophilia - simplified, it's an X-linked gene. It's found on bit of the X chromosome that isn't there on the Y (you know how the Y's smaller - the haemophilia gene is on the 'missing' bit).

So if you have a haemophilia gene on your X (I'll call that H), girls can be XH or HH. If you have an H and an X you don't have haemophilia, because the gene on your other X works normally. However you can still pass it on (as your eggs will have H or X in them). If you're HH you will have haemophilia, but it's rarer because you have an H from both your mum and your dad. Your children (presuming an XY man) could be XX, XY, HX (carrier girl), HY (haemophiliac boy).

Haemophiliac men have the genes HY - the Y doesn't have the matching gene to compensate, so they'll have heamophilia. They can pass on H or Y in their sperm - so boy children will be HY (and haemophiliac) and girls will be HX (and carriers).

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/09/2014 19:32

Aargh, sorry that's wrong - the man's children would be XY (normal boy) or XH (carrier girl).

So if the baby doesn't carry the gene (ie XX) she must be Dev's as assuming Jasmine is XX, she will give an X to the baby, Dev (XY) can give an X, but Jack (HY) could only give an H for a girl.

OhMyArsingGodInABox · 03/09/2014 19:37

Ahh that makes sense. Thank you.

FabulousFudge · 03/09/2014 20:12

Tigress - that made me laugh as well!

I think the midwife was quite behind the others.

I think FIL is her husband's solicitor as well.

FabulousFudge · 03/09/2014 20:13

Oh and I don't think they'll be another series, as I don't think this one has been that well received!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/09/2014 20:21

Wish they would bring back The Syndicate.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 03/09/2014 21:00

Hope the final one is good and I haven't watched the last 5 weeks for nothing.

rockpink · 03/09/2014 21:06

I've enjoyed it. Particularly Hermione Norris with the pizza on the chin moment!

onedev · 03/09/2014 21:22

I've enjoyed it & enjoyed The Syndicate too Grin

Southeastdweller · 03/09/2014 22:02

It's doing well in the ratings - almost a quarter of the audience share last night. But no news yet of a second series.

Tigresswoods · 03/09/2014 22:39

Thanks FabulousFudge, it's a mystery to me why he's not already banged up. I think bank robbery is "quite" serious, isn't it?!?

Icimoi · 03/09/2014 22:39

I think FIL is her husband's solicitor as well.

No, definitely not. Or if he is, he wasn't at the mediation session that was shown in the first episode.

Doobledootch · 03/09/2014 22:40

Not well received? We all seem hooked Wink

Yes pg MW definitely had some kind of twinge and the 'next week' segment at the end did indicate that this would lead to some kind of drama.

As for FIL, my money is on old business partner of her husband that the once swung with and who could possibly be one of her children's father.

FabulousFudge · 03/09/2014 23:08

Good prediction!

Aren't we all slating it though?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/09/2014 23:09

Not sure why mnhq edited thread saying spoilers

If it has happened on TV then fair game to talk about it and more fool anyone reading thread if they haven't seen recent episode an then read what has happened spoilers
