Child Genius (C4)

Anyone planning to watch this?

I was a little like these children; joined Mensa as a child, but used my ability to coast through school/university rather than to achieve anything noteworthy.

DS2 is also of this ilk. We are not doing any of the things these parents are doing, although when opportunities arise through school then obviously we let him participate.

I think she speaks very nicely. And not at all self important.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 27/07/2014 21:21

She seems unselfconscious to me and happy in her skin.

Long may she stay like that and hope she never gets bullied for being bright

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 27/07/2014 21:22

What a horrible woman Aliyahs mum is coming across as

Mondaybaby · 27/07/2014 21:22

Oh - Aaliyah's little face. And her mother's comment - "she was stupid" !!!!!

Notagenius · 27/07/2014 21:22

Imperial, when you speak on a casual basis day to day as the interview would have been done is your use of words 100% correct all the time or do you sometimes use slang & phrases that just come to mind

I have no idea what difference there us between disinterested & uninterested is, I'm sure Catherine does, but hey, she's not the type to put on a false front for the camera.

MissWimpyDimple · 27/07/2014 21:23

I love her hair!

TheFirstOfHerName · 27/07/2014 21:23

Of the two children who didn't do as well as they expected in the memory round, Rubiyat's parents and Aliyah's parents had very different reactions. I know which parents I would prefer...

I've seen that list by the front door!!!!!

She's lost 3 mobile phones this year. No wonder she gets on so well with my dippy dd!

ImperialBlether · 27/07/2014 21:26

Wow she's doing well with those cards!

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 21:26

Do have worked out their strategies. Just learn the first 25. Forget about learning the rest and bank on the others getting overwhelmed. Think I have a couple I geniuses I my own.

fledermaus · 27/07/2014 21:26

Look at her go!

CookieCrumbling · 27/07/2014 21:26

Poor Eleanor :( teaching these children to be successful is excellent, but not teaching them how to cope with losing sometimes is a massive oversight. I sense some emotional breakdowns looming in the future...

NoArmaniNoPunani · 27/07/2014 21:26

Go Eleanor! The next Shrinidhi

MissWimpyDimple · 27/07/2014 21:26

Wow! Go Eleanor!

Sirzy · 27/07/2014 21:27

Well done Eleanor, that was impressive. I like her mums non pushy approach, she is obviously doing it because she wants to which doesnt seem to be the case for them all

You've never seen her lose at musical statues cookie!

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 21:28

Dc not 'do'

Think all the parents want this more than their dc.

Mondaybaby · 27/07/2014 21:28

Eleanor reminds me of one of those models from the Laura Ashley catalogues in the 1980's!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 27/07/2014 21:29

Criticising the voice and hairstyle of a child, just because she's on TV, seems a bit off.

Yes, very nasty. She's 11 FFS

TheFirstOfHerName · 27/07/2014 21:30

I have similar lists by my front door. Although DS1 is not as far along the curve as these children, he is bright (top 5%?). He is so absent minded that it defies belief, as is DD. I was very disorganised until my teens, when I started developing strategies to compensate.

That woman (Aliya's mother) has left me slack-jawed in horror. What an awful, awful thing to say about your child 'stupid mistake' 'didn't work hard enough' and when she was 'comforting' her 'I can see you are disappointed in yourself'? Does she, you know, love her child at all? Hideous.

ImperialBlether · 27/07/2014 21:30

I've no idea what you mean by putting on a false front for the cameras. It's a common mistake to make; that's why I was surprised she made it.
