Not today, but the "starting soon" thing came up on my FB feed today, so probably another couple of weeks.

Too early. The start of GBBO is one of the markers of the end of summer and heralds the onset of autumn. Same for strictly.

I love it but it would be plain wrong to have it this early.

When did it start last year? I'm sure it was the summer holidays.

Ok, previous series have begun between the 14th and 20th of August, so potentially three and a half weeks to go, that's not too early to begin chatting about it is it?

Ooh there's a spin off show, GBBO-an extra slice.

Never too early to chat about GBBO. If they start in mid August that is (just about) acceptable. We haven't broken up from school yet so it would be plain wrong for it to begin now.

What is the extra slice thing?

On straight after. Panel of celebrities discussing who's been chucked out and extra footage.

So, what's everyone hoping to see this series? I'd quite like them to cover macarons again, but not with Italian meringue this time.

Big piece on GBBO in the Observer food mag if anyone has that. Says returns in August but no date.

You can get tickets to go and watch this new Extra Slice thing being filmed, I saw it on twitter somewhere but they were suggesting every audience member would bring something they'd baked (on the theme of the week) and that put me off.

The tv book for next week always has an advert of what's to come the following week. GBBO was there, seems that it must be starting early.

I loved the chocolate tea cakes, and always enjoy the celebration cake showstoppers. Some are always fantastic and some always look utterly hideous. The breads bore me slightly.

I really wish they would wait until September. It is such a comforting programme it belongs in the Autumn.
