Here. At one point Quinn appears to be either hugging or killing Salieri - apart from that it tells you very little. But still - Homeland!!!

I reckon (based on nothing except slowly building hype and last year's timings) that we're looking at late September/early October. Can we cope in a world without Brody?

Saul should have taken more clothing so he could have at least covered his head instead of standing out.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 02/12/2014 18:25

Would any of you be kind enough to post a list of the characters' names please? Grin

I'm another one struggling to keep up with who is who.

I know carrie, quinn, farah, saul, lockheart and the ambassador and husband dennis. Oh and john? Who we thought was a dick but now think is ok?

That's it, that's all i know Grin

Might be better to post character list at start of new thread.

Cocolepew · 02/12/2014 18:38

Like this Bingo?

guineapiglet · 02/12/2014 18:56
Grin

Wouldn't have attracted so much attention cocole!

hattymattie · 02/12/2014 18:57

Bingo - I was yelling at the TV to Saul to cover his head.

I also don't understand why they couldn't intercept Saul in the undergrowth using his mobile phone and send in a helicopter. Plus as somebody said they could have blown up the Taliban when they came to look for Saul. Too easy I suppose.

Starting to love Lockhart.

Cocolepew · 02/12/2014 18:57
Smile Lockheart looks like a 50's throwback.
hattymattie · 02/12/2014 19:16

I mean love Lockhart's character in that he won't take any shit and says it like it is.

deadwitchproject · 02/12/2014 21:40

Finally caught up. Wow. Was watching some of that through my fingers.

Bingo/Hatty - me too! if Saul had just used the blanket over his head like a scarf it would've made a big difference.

Stupid Dennis, can't wait for him to get his comeuppance.

CQ · 02/12/2014 22:13

Delurking as confused.

What has Keira Knightlley got to do with any of it?

Who is Woopert?

ConfusedConfused

TheSpottedZebra · 02/12/2014 22:19

No, stay out with us and play. Rocks are not your friend, they could be hiding bad intelligence agents.

Woopert is Rupert Friend, the actor who plays Quinn. He used to date (be engaged to?), Keira Knightly.
Some people on here last after Quinn. They must like muscly rodents.

ihatethecold · 02/12/2014 22:26

CQ
Grin

CQ · 02/12/2014 22:26

Aha, thank you Zebra. I have been getting all confused with Zaf and Spooks and thought twas Rupert Penry-Jones and Keira. Couldn't understand how that sleb love match had passed me by Grin

Bet she's kicking herself now for letting Quin go.

It would be a hard choice between him and gorgeous Zaf for me. Sigh. Carrie's bound to end up with one of them.

Loving this series, and this thread makes it just the gift that keeps on giving Wink

Howaboutthisone · 02/12/2014 22:49

Such a good episode! So incredibly tense. I might be being daft here but why did Carrie lead Saul there and without giving him a heads up at all? Especially after their history and her promise to him. I would have been devastated to see the end of Saul but it felt like the right moment for big impact and a big fuck you to stupid big haired Dennis recruiter! Phew- feels good to get that off my chest.

Also in the meeting she was the one to say no to the recess- is she actually running the show? I definitely think art Malik is bad. And that zaf (and I didn't even watch the wonder that was Spooks!) is good ish but not totally.

I'm so so glad that bloody Dennis is surely about to get his comeuppance! Feel sorry for ambassador though- she should've married Saul when she has the chance and saved him from bloody meera too!

YonicScrewdriver · 02/12/2014 23:07

Thing is - what is good? Zaf is clearly on the Pakistani side but thinks some ops go too far - that doesn't mean he's on the side if the CIA.

CoolCadbury · 03/12/2014 07:37

Batting for the Pakistani side is not necessarily a bad thing. Especially if you have "good" men like Zaf. The whole point is that there are different elements within ISI and the whole relationship with the US/west is ambivalent. Some want it and welcome it and others clearly don't. When Carrie says to Zaf "Well, you've won" and he says "Did we?" I think that was genuinely meant. Zaf can still be patriotic without being "bad" - I think he is the flip side to Quinn myself.

lisbapalea · 03/12/2014 09:00

Long time lurker on this thread. Loving this series so far and got so inspired by my reignited lust for Zaf that we opened an old boxset of Spooks on Monday. My god it was dated and really quite shit, like cbeebies does spy drama. Felt disloyal thinking that as it's always been a real favourite, but it really did look pants.

Travelledtheworld · 03/12/2014 11:35

Great episode. I am also concerned that Saul didn't steal a hat from the prison guard, if only to keep his poor baldy head warm.

And why didn't he open fire on the Taliban when they surrounded him. He still had his gun under his blankie.
He would have been shot down by them....

I am totally bummed I have a work Christmas dinner on Sunday night so won't be able to watch next episode live. ( I know .....who organises a staff Christmas party for a Sunday?)

TheSpook · 03/12/2014 14:36

lisbapalea Oh what a shame about Spooks, it's one of my all time favourites.
This episode was back to the old edge of the seat jaw dropping stuff of series one.

Fiderer · 03/12/2014 15:24

I suppose what I mean by Zaf being a goody is that he's working with Pakistani interests at heart and not those of the Taliban.

The whole thing's muddy though. Some may want the Americans to go away without wanting the Taliban to take over.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 03/12/2014 18:05

Oh my poor Saul. I feel for him. He reminds me of my dad.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 03/12/2014 18:25

(Just caught up on 4od which is why I'm posting now.)
Agree that I also Zaf to be a good guy. So glad Carrie was a bit more normal and controlled this episode. I was sick of her acting manic. I must admit, she showed some really good acting when she on the comms with Saul. Her facial expressions conveyed so much.

Hassled · 03/12/2014 20:19

The 972 messages thing is making me twitchy. It's like watching something roll towards a cliff. To this end, I've started a new thread here.

Good Guardian piece on the portrayal of Carrie's bipolar here

Dammit - meant to put that on new thread.

Great article hassled and good clips too. I like the manic scene in the hospital with Saul is being so understanding.
