No boundaries. Violent video games. No consequences and the mum is not in charge and he knows it.

It isn't all down to parenting. It is also down to the temperament of the child too. It is easy to blame the parents, rather than consider the child has a personality disorder or anger management issues. I have met good parents who have disturbed children.

I am not watching, has the child been checked for physical health problems that have gone undianosed or if they are on the spectrum?

I agree spanky, but there is no excuse on this earth for letting a young boy watch GTA - that is bad parenting.

My child has autism and is prone to violent outbursts, I think pinning a child down and saying have you calmed down yet? Is really exacerbating the issye .i find the best thing to do is walk away. Its bloody hard dealing with a child who has these outbursts tho everyone copes differently.

It is choosing your battles I guess. I wouldn't let my dcs play it, although my father insisted on letting my then 7 year old play it at his house saying I don't let him shoot anyone. That would be one of the reasons I don't see him anymore. It is just when you are in it, it is difficult to know what to do. I have met very disturbed children, most have been the result of a traumatic event and the lucky ones have parents who don't always make the right choices but try to. Of course most parents with dcs like this couldn't give a shit about them.

She really needs to stop handling him.

JJ - I'd take everything out of his room except a mattress on the floor and a sleeping bag.

Then once he earns his treats he can have them.

I think it is very easy to judge. We don't know how these families have got to where they are. None of us have had to walk in their shoes.

My friend has an autistic DS and this is what she has been told to do is lie on top of him to calm him down! I don't think crowding an angry child like that is good. The only problem is that these kids seem to run after their parents.

I think it would be very interesting to find out if there was even a slight improvement from removing all computer time and seriously limiting tv to age appropriate stuff.
Yes, there are probably underlying problems and causes, but I would bet money on the screen time considerably exacerbating it all.

There's no way she's going to be able to keep on wrestling him like that for much longer. My 10yo is nearly as big as me. De-escalation is the only way and that has to start before he truly starts to kick off. That's tricky in the ebb and flow of a normal day and we don't always get it right.

Tracey looks absolutely knackered. Poor woman is so resigned to being bottom of the heap, isn't she? She's living in an abusive situation, but rather than doing it to her directly, her partner's sitting back and letting their son do it to her.

I don't let my dcs play electronic things after tea. I have noticed when they play on the wii after school they argue more and ds2 finds it harder to settle at bed time. No wii tomorrow. I find I need to say that they need to spend time on their own. Sometimes I don't tell them to and we end up with ww3 at bedtime. Ds1 likes his own company and ds2 likes to be with people. That is something I try to teach them. Most people don't think about this, they believe that children are vessels to be filled.
