I thought it was brilliant, although some generational shifts confused me. The lead character played by Sarah Lancashire had a grandson but didn't look old enough.

The company boss had been friends with the accountant's father, that didn't add up did it? Or did I get that wrong.

Great to see the George Costigan and Siobhan Finneran reunited although not onscreen together.

Brilliant writing and simply superb acting I thought, anybody else enjoy it?

...what if he comes up from the cellar before the ambulance gets there?

Shock
WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 20/05/2014 22:16

I really didn't want to carry on watching the series after the first episode with so much violent content, but I am so glad I stuck with it.

Excellent acting, horrifying storyline, my heart is still beating way too fast but I so want to find out the ending. I hope it all ends 'happily' but I don't think it will.

Cooroo · 20/05/2014 22:17

What can I say but 'me too'? Harrowing, horrible, intense and very good TV. DP and me shouting at telly. Thank god the girl is rescued. Presumably cathy not dead? 2 more episodes - if that monster comes out of the cellar at the beginning of next ep I will die.

It's got to be baftas all round for this next year surely? Can't remember last time a tv drama made me shake.

AndiPandi · 20/05/2014 22:19

Girl will be locked in police car so she should be safe from him but what about poor Cathy, I'm going to be worrying about her for a week!!

Puringmary · 20/05/2014 22:20

HE'S GOING TO KIDNAP HIS SON!

SOMEBODY STOP HIM!

sorry, still a tad overwrought.

AndiPandi · 20/05/2014 22:21

I just hope people remember PuringMary by the time the next BAFTAs comes round. I totally agree. Broadchurch was very good but even it didn't get me physically shaking like this!

Cocolepew · 20/05/2014 22:21

That was briliant, my heart was in my mouth! Shock

Clawdy · 20/05/2014 22:24

What was Anne shouting at the end?

ExitPursuedByABear · 20/05/2014 22:25

Thanks Everlong. I was up very early.

Deux · 20/05/2014 22:26

OMG. My heart rate is still thumping.

This is fab and a week seems so long to wait.

I think she was shouting "don't do it, don't you die"??

Verycold · 20/05/2014 22:30

She was shouting Don't do that

GypsyFloss · 20/05/2014 22:30

I don't know what Ann was saying in the car. At first I thought it was get in the car but then it changed?

Daughter and I too think he is going to kidnap his son.

midgeymum2 · 20/05/2014 22:30

I think she was shouting to Catherine "don't give up!"

I'm thrilled and horrified in equal measure by this series!

CarCiKoTab · 20/05/2014 22:30

It was something like don't do that referring to the fact she was about to go unconscious.

tilliebob · 20/05/2014 22:30

Yeah she was saying don't die. I am sitting here hoping someone gets help before psycho gets out the basement.

DillyBob14 · 20/05/2014 22:31

so stressful and so utterly brilliant

GypsyFloss · 20/05/2014 22:33

We wanted Ann to take a second swing at the bastard's head to make sure she finished him off! I'm very worried about him coming up those stairs whilst she's lying in the road.

Puringmary · 20/05/2014 22:33

The only weirdly duff note was her ex-husband telling her all that stuff about drugs that everyone who has ever watched any telly drama would already know - let alone a journalist. What was that all about?

They even had to nod to him stating the obvious with SL responses. What was the purpose of that scene?
I get the whole drugs/local politos/plod subplot but still thought that was clumsy.

Puringmary · 20/05/2014 22:36

Think Ann was telling SL to get in the car and then not to die :-(

Then did it change ? and last thing was 'don't do that, don't kill her'

Heartbreaking.

MissOtisRegretsMadam · 20/05/2014 22:36

Nothing has had my heart going like that since Luther...

siblingrevelryagain · 20/05/2014 22:37

Maybe it's a clumsy way of the script writers showing how SL connect Ashley-he mentioned it being cut with brick dust, he's got building supplies..

I haven't been so physically affected by a programme before, my heart rate is still going strong (but behind on sky plus, just finished)
