I thought it was brilliant, although some generational shifts confused me. The lead character played by Sarah Lancashire had a grandson but didn't look old enough.

The company boss had been friends with the accountant's father, that didn't add up did it? Or did I get that wrong.

Great to see the George Costigan and Siobhan Finneran reunited although not onscreen together.

Brilliant writing and simply superb acting I thought, anybody else enjoy it?

Also remember her from when she went 'posh' about five years ago in Unforgiven, also written by Sally Wainwright and starring Suranne Jones.

Clocking Off ? She's been in loads of stuff

What was Unforgiven about? Was it the weird one with Douglas Henshall as the scary ghost teacher? And that bloody wooden handsome husband.

No, Suranne Jones played someone who'd just come out of jail for two cops when she was a teenager. Siobhan played the wife of a former Doctor Who - Peter Davison. George Costigan was in that one also.

Comes out of jail for killing two cops, I meant to say.

I just realised , via wiki, that the actor who played Ashley was also in The Village. He does hard-nosed and slightly scary rather well.

The actor playing Ashley is Alun Armstrong's son, he looks just like him sometimes.

I'm not a fan of Sarah Lancashire and usually avoid anything with her in it, but I started watching this when it came on after River City.

I think I am going to stick with it though, it was rather good, the kidnap scene was very dark, and Kevin is so creepy.

I don't like Sarah Lancashire's accent, but will give this series a go, i do like Siobhan Finneran though.

Gosh yes Cocolepew I can see that now looking at photos of him.

What was SL looking up at the end? Was it a cliffhanger? Why?

She was looking at the address of the accountant, after he ran away mid confession. So presumably next step is to go and visit him.

She got his address by noting his car registration as he sped away.

Oh ye was it The Village, it was a terrible dreary series, Maxine Peak was in it, so was the guy who plays the farmer/holiday home owner, Alun Armstrongs son

She is also in Love/Hate, it's all coming back to me now, thanks a million girls, it was driving me mad, sorry for not having more clues Blush

I have just watched it and loved it. Sarah L was old enough to be a granny Confused

Really good actors in it, can't wait to see how it pans out.

Siobhan F will always be Rita…or Sue(?) to me!

I enjoyed it up until the kidnapping. I know they have to get across how much of a bastard the rapist man is but his choice of language and menace was gratuitous.

So many dramas use young attractive women in graphic sex crimes situations and it's filmed to be titillating which is repulsive.

I can understand they need to show violence and can feature rape/assault (if it's central to the plot) and I'm not prudish about sex scenes but IMO they linger graphically on sexual assaults for no reason other to titillate. A good writer, actor and director can get across the evil in a character without saying 'cut your tits off'. I don't think we need to be shown extensive graphic suffering of the actress to understand what's going on. It's far too close to rape-porn just disguised as artistic drama.

This isn't certainly isn't the worst example of this I've seen and I will watch next week but if they insist on doing it I will give up. I love Steve Pemberton and think he's so versatile. He does exasperated and desperate very well.

I thought it was pretty realistic, how else would they get across what a bastard he was?

Oh lord above, I need a rest or something Blush, I'm totally mixing up the actors names, I was thinking of the girl who was kidnapped, was she in The Village, sorry girls I'm sure I was driving you mad, I'll leave you to it and come back when I have all my facts and names right Grin

Thanks for the help, I do love Siobhan Finneran, she was great in Downton and The Syndicate

Loads of ways! They are experienced actor and writers.

As, I said, this is not the most graphic or gratuitous example (yet) but it's definitely something I see time and time again in films and dramas. It's titillation.

Instead of making the entertainment the drama and interactions leading up to and in the aftermath of an incident, it makes the entertain the rape/assaults/whatever itself.

Maybe it won't go that way. I will watch and see.

Words-I do know what you mean but for these characters I think it was appropriate.
