I thought it was brilliant, although some generational shifts confused me. The lead character played by Sarah Lancashire had a grandson but didn't look old enough.

The company boss had been friends with the accountant's father, that didn't add up did it? Or did I get that wrong.

Great to see the George Costigan and Siobhan Finneran reunited although not onscreen together.

How brave was Ann? Not just running away but dragging Catherine up the stairs with her. Every instinct of hers would be to get the fuck out of there but she did the right thing knowing she would be killed if she left her there

I've just played the very end over again and Ann is shouting 'Don't give up' when she's in the police car.

Puring I don't think anyone knew they were there. If I'd been Ann I would have started yelling and screaming to attract attention but she didn't which seemed odd...

I'm assuming PuringMary that people didn't come out cos they're all off their heads or dealing and not wanting to get too close to a copper.

The violence with which he beat Catherine was unusual I think to see on tv. He seemed to have no compunction in laying into her like she was a bloke.

My guess (or hope?) is that next week's will start calm with her in hospital recovering, visited by family etc, and that the last two episodes will be less violent with her investigating and also the whole relationship thing with her ex/son/grandson. Lot's of loose ends tied up and no more horribleness!

coo I can understand Ann being quiet when she was dragging Cath out of the house. After being raped at least once, kidnapped, beaten and drugged, she must feel like dead within. Not explaining that well but you know what I mean. I wonder if the writer researched similar kidnap RL stories.

The actress playing Ann has been brilliant- not the most verbal of roles but the sheer terror she portrayed in her eyes & facial expressions & the numerous whimpers conveyed exactly what she was going through.

I think that is why this has gripped and yet terrified us all -it's so bloody REAL & if they don't get a whole raft of awards for this I shall def be shouting at the telly !!

My heart is still thumping this morning!! It's fantastic. I think Ann should put the lights and siren on in the police car. She was very brave to drag Catherine up the stairs. I can't wait until next week!

I said to dh, how long does it take to recover from the pepper spray - he said quite a while, but I was terrified he'll just come up the stairs and grab Ann again. I suppose he still could.

I was also shouting at SL to call for back up - but she had her beep-beep alarm thing going on her radio when they were at the car- so does that mean the police will rush to her now?

I think (hope) they'll be rescued, but Tommy will have disappeared from the cellar, and will go after Ryan.
