I thought it was brilliant, although some generational shifts confused me. The lead character played by Sarah Lancashire had a grandson but didn't look old enough.

The company boss had been friends with the accountant's father, that didn't add up did it? Or did I get that wrong.

Great to see the George Costigan and Siobhan Finneran reunited although not onscreen together.

Brilliant writing and simply superb acting I thought, anybody else enjoy it?

Actually I found the accountant's wife saying 'keep the money' a bit unbelievable tbh. Bit of a turn around considering her shock when she first heard.

this is a brilliant series but i hadn't quite realised how violent it was going to be, but by then i was sucked in.

i can believe the accountant and wife making the turnaround to keeping the money because they are still under the misapprehension that the kidnapped daughter is unhurt, and that basically this is a relatively 'victimless' (you know what i mean) crime from their rather warped POV. they're both still mostly concerned with being caught

The wife changed her mind about the money in an oddly quick time. I hope her and hubby both get screwed over when it all comes out.

Oh I agree. But she's already gone along with it up to that point without calling the police so it's just another step really

and if she went to the police that would be dobbing her husband in. and she needs him.

well i like to think i wouldn't, nor the majority of people. but obviously people must do

and i think they genuinely both believe (or desperately want to believe to the extent that they are in denial about any other scenario) that she is "fine"

even in that situation i don't think i could turn a blind eye, but there must be people who are capable of doing so

She should have insisted he burnt the money and in front of her. And somehow found out the whereabouts of Ann.

slartybartfast · 16/05/2014 19:04

i think she should donate the money to the man whose daughter has been kidnapped, but that would give some sort of game away.
donate the money to a good cause would be far better.

Just caught up with the first three episodes here and I'm loving it too. Isn't SL just brilliant? So glad to see her win that bafta tonight for Last Tango: she deserves another one for this!

I saw the first two in their entirety & I watched the first 15 mins of part 3 & I'm afraid to say that I had to switch it off. Far too disturbing for me, the wpc being brutally murdered was awful (understatement) Plus, I could see it coming a mile off with the heavy handedness of the delay in her trying to get someone to run a number plate check (just changing shifts, pc gone to the toilet)
I agree that this is first rate & Sarah L is superb, but too disturbing for me.

I started off really enjoying this but now I find myself compelled to watch but am not really enjoying it. The acting and storyline are grim, but it's a bit like watching one of my worse nightmares come to life Sad.
