New thread.

I've been watching for 30-odd years, with breaks while at university etc, but consistently for the last 20. Even if it meant watching it in blocks of a weeks worth at a time on Sky+. This summer I have not bothered, missed loads and decided that unless things improve, when I have recorded it in blocks I'll only bother with the last episode. I just can't justify the time spent watching it any more, it's not that good. I don't intend to stop altogether, but I won't watch it for the sake of it.

Impomea · 24/08/2013 23:06

Yes it must be difficult fof the SWs but all they need to do is read this thread. We can come up with lots of suggestions for new characters and even actors (Sean Bean for example) who would surely bring in loads more viewers.

Bakingnovice · 24/08/2013 23:19

It's not just the fact that lots of characters have gone like Blanche, ken, jack etc. it's also that the new characters are one dimensional and awful. Take Jenna for example, her and Sophie together is off. She's always got a face like a slapped arse, really unlikeable and I'm sorry but a physio would not be working in a shop and cafe. Then there's Karl, again intensely dislikable. Ditto Owen, izzy, Anna, Katie, rob, Gary, Faye, Tim, Stella, Ryan. The only good characters in recent years have been Sylvia and Mary.

squoosh · 24/08/2013 23:23

There's no way Sean Bean is going to want to take a job on Corrie, he makes Hollywood films!

KareninsGirl · 24/08/2013 23:37

I too wondered about chesney's alarmingly red eyes. Perhaps it's eczema. Or, husband's suggestion, a crack habit?!?

eddiemairswife · 24/08/2013 23:40

They need to write some storylines about the decent established characters they already have such as Eileen, Lloyd, Steve and work on their strengths. Not about bed-hopping or secret liaisons; we've had too many of those, but stories about issues that concern many people nowadays, such as bedroom tax, food banks, school places. They could even look on Mumsnet to get some ideas!!

StephenFrySaidSo · 25/08/2013 11:11

I think they need to do a storyline on how not to abuse or talk about abusing women and children. they did do something like that a few years ago with Eileen's dad and her best friend (Julie's mum) but I think it would be good to see them really nailing the colours to the mast- regardless of whether there are any convictions in RL or not.

LadyEnglefield · 25/08/2013 12:09

Squoosh - so does Sir Ian Mckellen & he was in Corrie a while back.

SB also does TV programmes so we can still hope!

DP met him a few months ago at some corporate do, he was actually on the same table as SB. Said he was a really nice, down to earth bloke.

I am now proud owner of a LOTR book with a picture of Boromir signed "love Sean" Grin

NuggetofPurestGreen · 25/08/2013 12:14

Ooh jealous LadyEngle. Fellowship of the Ring was on Film 4 last night, I love Boromir!

Impomea · 25/08/2013 13:17

LadyE-I am "well jel"
Anyhow SB is apparently not a proper actor according to my DS as he hasn't been in a Harry Potter !
I thought I saw him on This Morning once and he said he would love to be a milkman on Corrie (or was this in a dream)

FannyMcNally · 25/08/2013 13:29

It's a shame that Gloria is such a shallow person because I could have seen Sue Johnston becoming a long term favourite. (And that's what we need right now). She could have become Audrey's best mate and had girlie nights out with Rita and Emily and been a 'rock' for Deirdre when Ken leaves. As it is, either the actress isn't interested in making the role interesting or the SWs aren't writing to her strengths. Either way I think the character was a mistake for her.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 25/08/2013 14:06

He's said it loads of times by the looks of things. Get your act together Corrie!!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 25/08/2013 14:08

Yeah Fanny I love Sue J and had high hopes when she joined, but Gloria is just a caricature of the 'strong' Corrie woman. She's had one or two funny lines but that whole clan is just rubbish.

FannyMcNally · 25/08/2013 14:14

I can just see Eileen, Gail and Deirdre fighting over him. Sally would drop Tim and join in the scrum and Anna would forever be comparing him to loser Owen. Audrey would have a new reason for getting up in the morning and Carla would start having doubts about loser Peter. Bring it on Sean!!

Impomea · 25/08/2013 14:39

Yes and Norris would make snide comments that he would never be able to learn to do the papers,Gary would punch him,Rob would nick his milkfloat, David would try to arrange an accident.Carl would murder him and Dev would cry cos Sunita is dead !

squoosh · 25/08/2013 14:41

Oooooooooh well if Sean Bean wants to appear on the cobbles well them I'm a-ok with that!

He's bloody gorgeous. Love his accent.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 25/08/2013 18:56

Love him. You should watch Game of Thrones (if you haven't already) just for him!

squoosh · 25/08/2013 18:59

Oh yeah, he's gorgeous in GoT!

Impomea · 25/08/2013 20:08

It's going back a bit ,but he was Mellors in Lady Chatterly -very disturbing !

thistlelicker · 25/08/2013 21:57

Stella is leaving!! Does that mean awful Eva is too?

FannyMcNally · 25/08/2013 22:14

I'm sad about Stella leaving. She never has a bad word to say about anybody and I think they could have done a lot more with her. Not so Eva. Hope she's not going to hang around.

BringMeTea · 25/08/2013 23:31

I feel we are all a little jaded. Maybe time for a Corrie gem:
'babies are magical: like sodastreams'.
Feel free to add your own Corrie legendary one-liners.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 25/08/2013 23:53

I just can't get past Stella taking Karl back and for that I'm glad she's going. Otherwise I like her though and think they have really wasted an opportunity with her and Gloria.

Sean Bean - well, he's never been convicted, but he was accused of assaulting one of his ex-wives, really don't think Corrrie needs another cast member with that sort of question mark against his name right now, mud sticks.

squoosh · 26/08/2013 19:53

Is it the wisest move on Tina's part to be threatening Psycho Ratface Platt with the police?
