It's squeaky bum time....

Tennis fans generally refer to recent history as the open era.

NoComet · 08/07/2013 08:58

I'm missing the Tennis already, and I'll miss you lot too!

I'm beginning to corrupt my DDs into being tennis fans.

Not DH, he went to Tesco's during the match, But DH is a sport free zone, hence his delight at having DDs.

DD2, of course, plays rugby, football, netball, hockey and rounders and does gymnastics and ballet. So much for girls not wanting endless kit washing and picking up from matches Grin

Now to find a way to watch the US open, DSIS has sky (grotty rural free view) so she just takes out a sports subscription and cancels it a month later every year Envy

Well back to real life and putting away mounds of washing that were on the line during the last few beautiful days.

Oh be quiet cats

Chubfuddler · 08/07/2013 09:02

Woke up with a big smile on my face. How team murray feel I can only imagine. Beautiful day, wonderful happenings over the weekend, makes you feel glad to be alive.

ClayDavis · 08/07/2013 09:03

Tennis Tennis

Just checking they still work. Would love to know when your dd has her baby seize. Will you be moving Boris into her room once she's moved out?

siezethenight · 08/07/2013 09:07

Murray was just on the radio - he sounds wrung out.
What on this Earth is Bonkers Barker going to say next year when she can't say, 'Not since 1937 have we had a British Champion - is this the year?'
Does Boris go to the American Open?? Cause, you know, I may get that Sky Sports channel and try to start college and watch tennis all at the same time for those 2 weeks if I know he is going to be there!

BBMs · 08/07/2013 09:08

Good morning ladies! I am suffering the withdrawals symptoms already! :(
I was talking to my DH about getting Sky Sports for a trial run for the US Open Grin
Back to reality... Doctor's appointments and cleaning the house :( first day without tennis... (Never asked how to do the tennis ball....)

siezethenight · 08/07/2013 09:08

Boris prefers under the stairs for some weird reason Clay

siezethenight · 08/07/2013 09:09

Write tennis in the [] bbm's Go on, do it now before it disappears!

ClayDavis · 08/07/2013 09:10

I should apologise. I did mention flags, but it was tongue in cheek and supposed to be a bit light hearted.

siezethenight · 08/07/2013 09:16

Nope, clay you told them all to shut up with the arguing. Or was it chub? Either way - no apologies needed. As said earlier, you have been here for the tennis not the bloody Scot v British debate. There was a thread on that ages ago in chat I think it was, it should have stayed over there and not come on here, this was a tennis love thread not a debate over silly nationalities... You'd swear William Wallace was still alive!
Mind, if he looked at all like Mel Gibson did in that film, I would have been tempted to leave Boris Grin

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/07/2013 09:19

There is some danger of my children being fed proper meals at the table today Grin

MirandaWest · 08/07/2013 09:23

I've been doing my 🎾🎾 on the ipad with a double [[ and then using the emoji things.

Will try the [tennis way as well :)

ClayDavis · 08/07/2013 09:25

I think it was chubb who said it and several other posters and I agreed. Anyway, when Heather wins something you can all share her victory because she is British. And if you see me jumping up and down with a Guernsey flag, it's not about nationalism its because it's the only one I have.

They'll get 3 days of proper meals before the Ashes then, Ali.

Raahh · 08/07/2013 09:27

Well- that was a mistake- I let dd2 walk to the shops. She's 3 in September, but didn't walk til she was 2. I knew she would get tired and I would end up carrying her, but I still let her do it. God knows how these slebs lug their offspring about til they are teenagersGrin- mind, she's pretty big and i'm a shortarse...I'm exhausted already.

I feel pretty teary all of a sudden. (post-tennis blues disorder/pre-menstrual).

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/07/2013 09:32

Raahh - because they are walking about 50 yards from expensive shop/restaurant to chauffeur driven car. So they can carry their giant toddlers while staggering along in 5 inch heels Grin

Clay - I can get Sky on the TV in my kitchen, just not the Beeb. DH has rigged it up somehow - all perfectly legit, it is via their Sky Go thing which is for iPads, laptops etc. So we will not starve for 5 days every fortnight while there is a test on!!

Raahh · 08/07/2013 09:32

I haven't got any flagsSad

my neighbour has a flag pole in his garden- he alternates Union flag with a St George cross depending on what is happening in the world. Last summer it got a lot of use, and started to look a bit tattyGrin

Bet there are some hangovers around todayGrin

Raahh · 08/07/2013 09:34

Ali trueGrin

siezethenight · 08/07/2013 09:49

On Potato and Djok day, I won a Tv on Ebay for 20.00. It was local pick up. So I hoffed off to get it after ladies finals day (ladie's rofl). This is a nice Tv, big with surround sound and all. I got it and brought it in and sat it on floor and ignored it because I did not want to rig it all up as men's final was on the next day - did not want to mess with the sky box and wires and so forth before that, God forbid I broke something Shock I also was worried it was naff and didn't work given the price I got it for. Have been looking at it ever since it got here and wondering... I set it all up just now - it works! This means dd and partner will have a Tv in their flat with freeview on it cause I can give them our one. 20.00!! Reckon I must have got it without any other bids because everybody, at the time, was watching the Potato match. As was I but bidding on my phone.
I am a very good mother - I will be popular with dd now, imagine a baby up half the night and you have no Tv? Now she has a Tv.

Raahh · 08/07/2013 09:55

wow! that's a bargain sieze- fingers crossed it keeps going!

Chubfuddler · 08/07/2013 09:55

Well just to put this to rest if Andy Murray isn't a British tennis player, someone forgot to tell him about it. Because it appears he considers himself to be British:

?No, I didn?t always feel this day was going to happen,? he said afterwards, his voice still tremulous with incredulity. ?It?s incredibly difficult to win these events. It takes so much hard work and mental toughness. And it?s really hard to be the standard-bearer of British tennis at Wimbledon. Very tough, very stressful, a lot of pressure. It?s everywhere you go because of how big this event is, but also because of the history and no Brit having won. I think now it will become easier. I hope it will.

BBMs · 08/07/2013 09:59

Thank you Sieze! Tennis Tennis Tennis Tennis Tennis yay! Tennis Tennis Tennis Tennis

GlaikitFizzog · 08/07/2013 10:15

Of course he does! I am British, but also a proud Scot. Sieze is welsh/French and British. Regionality (opposed to nationality) is a strong part of your identity. Murray is Scottish and British, the two aren't mutually exclusive.

A good example of this is the Great British Menu. Heats are in regions, Final's cover the whole of the uk.

I can't wait until the commonwealth games next year! Then we can actually cheer on Scotland's Andy Murray. Wink
