I left the thread last night because some pesky people had roamed on over to it and started a fight about flags!? Nutters. It was a huge shame because you guys, you know who you are, who welcomed me in 2 weeks ago when I butted in on your thread, have been great to chat with and fun and have made this really one to remember, as if Murray winning was not enough to make it one to remember!
Thank you all for the last 2 weeks. I am unable to get American Open Am hugely tempted to ring Sky and ask for sports channels on 1 month free trial from mid August. Wonder if they would go for it..?

It has been a pleasure ladies, sorry if my nationalistic views slipped out (I try to keep them to myself) but I am very proud of that young man, regardless of where he comes from and it makes me sad that people don't like him because he is perceived as grumpy/cold/not a media darling.

I can't get the US open either, but try to keep up with thescores. It's never the same. And last year, the Olympics filled a gap.

My older dcs have a transition week this week, to get toknow their teachers for next year. DS never seems to notice who his teacher is, he just gets on with it. DD1 is going into yr 3- and isn't 7 til mid August- she's a lot more nervous. Plus, one of her teachers (it's a post mat leave /part time job share) is the teacher ds had when she taught mixed yr 1/2 class. And she's not great. So, my sadness at the end of Wimbledon is being over taken by my worries for dd1.

Ay, it is the way unfortunately and I just did not want yesterday ruined so I stepped back. Possibly best cause had somebody said something horrid to one of you guys that have been here form the start, I would have waded in, in your support. I have a mean Welsh gob on me when I start so tend to not start I am always sorry afterwards so yeah, I tend to walk off, even in Rl.

Sure your dd will be okay. I used to hate with a passion my dc's starting with a new teacher. I don't miss all that stress.

Congratulations to Andy Murray, fantastic Scotsman who has won the Wimbledon Championships. Fed up of this 'British' nonsense. He's the first Scotsman ever to win Wimbledon. It should be shouted from the rooftops!

I know I have not been a prolific poster, mainly because I am on holiday and supposed to be keeping mumsneting to a minimum. Just wanted to say thanks for the thread and the banter. I am the only true tennis fan in this house so it has been great to have some like minds to watch with.

The US Open final match last year was brilliant. I was quaffing malt like it was Hogmanay. I don't think I went to bed and can still remember the hangover. Anyway I don't have Sky but some clever person posted a link to watch the live streaming on line. No idea if it was legal, I suspect not, but it worked.

A bit of quick googling reveals Scotsman Harold Mahony won in 1896. So first Scotsman in the open era, but not first scotsman.
