ORDER OF PLAY

Of course I'm rooting for Ferrer- Vamos! But would love Del Potato to dowell too,so torn.
Kubot/Janowicz, bit difficult to call really.
Would love Berdych to triumph over Djoko- (then Ferrer can whup him in the semi'sGrin)
Am going for Verdasco- obs, as he's Spanish, and it would be wrong not tooGrin - I'm sure Murray is not without support!Grin

Can someone tell me what happened? I was putting the baby down for a nap and missed the first game.

Raahh · 03/07/2013 13:29

NotAQueef-- you only have to look at how Nadal's knee problems have affected his career, to see it could end up cutting his career short. Not worth the risk, surely.

Oh El Potato, well done. And how lovely is Ferrer, applauding him.

Raahh · 03/07/2013 13:31

well- he's got a break! That can only boost his confidence.

:( as I said, I think it's a mistake for Del Potro to continue...
Mustn't be easy for Ferrer to play against him now...

NotAQueef · 03/07/2013 13:33

who the eff is Del Pocho? (McEnroe just said it)

siezethenight · 03/07/2013 13:33

witt Potato fell over very badly and hurt his already hurt knee. It was terrible to watch, Had doc on and he's playing on.... Sigh, he's so brave... Like a super hero!

Ferrer is also lush!

FarleyD · 03/07/2013 13:34

Whatever the doc gave him - I want some.

NotAQueef · 03/07/2013 13:34

I totally agree Raahh and that would be far sadder than retiring in a Wimbledon QF.

Witt · 03/07/2013 13:35

Poor Del Potro Sad Really hard for both of them I imagine as Ferrer won't want to take advantage because of it.

Raahh · 03/07/2013 13:35

Farlry Smile

maybe it was calpol

OP posts:
FarleyD · 03/07/2013 13:37

I can just hear his mum shouting "stop it now, stop it, come off there this minute". I soo think he should retire - as you've all been saying, it's all about the long game.

BBMs · 03/07/2013 13:38

Farley I want some too! Been in agony for the last 5days with a bad back...

JaquelineHyde · 03/07/2013 13:39

As a professional tennis player though you have to take advantage of these situations surely?

It doesn't make you a bad person, and doesn't have to be something you want to do but to win a slam you have to use every advantage thrown your way. That's what being a true professional is about.

Ferrer should have him running all over the court, no mercy and if he doesn't then Ferrer does not deserve to win Wimbledon.

I doubt Del Potro will be happy if he thinks Ferrer is going soft on him, it's kind of insulting really.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 03/07/2013 13:40

Really hard for Ferrer to play against, because he will have to fight down any sympathy and push balls to the corners as usual.

How horrible for them both :(

NotAQueef · 03/07/2013 13:40

I'm sure as the minutes tick by and the direct memory of the falls fades, we'll see lots of drop shots from Ferrer

Chubfuddler · 03/07/2013 13:41

I agree with jaq. And I'm not surprised del potato won't retire - this is worth thousands to him right now. This could be the zenith of his career anyway (unlikely but it could) so if course he's desperate for a shot at the semi of a grand slam.

Raahh · 03/07/2013 13:41

Odd though it sounds - if it was Haas for example, coming the end of his career really, you might risk it. But at 24? No.

OP posts:
FarleyD · 03/07/2013 13:41

Lots of talk last night (when I was doing my extensive googling research) about how his career has been plagued by injury, and some tennis pundits questioning his long term career due to wrist injuries - and now knees it seems.

Shock - John just said "bummer" on the beeb. He'll get his bottom smacked for that.

Raahh · 03/07/2013 13:43

Chub- he's already won a slam, so it's not like this is his big break. It's huge, obviously (and i know we like to think Wimbledon is the only slam that countsWink) but it really isn't worth the risk.

OP posts:
NotAQueef · 03/07/2013 13:43

seriously McEnroe needs to learn to speak, his name is not frikking Del Poe Choe

Chubfuddler · 03/07/2013 13:43

A losing semi finalist gets 400,000. The losing quarter finalist gets 205,000. I'd risk my knee for 195,000.

BBMs · 03/07/2013 13:44

Oh god! Novak stretched his knee too :(

FarleyD · 03/07/2013 13:45

Aw Chub - you wouldn't really would you? If you were only 24?

Chubfuddler · 03/07/2013 13:45

I don't think it's the only slam that counts. It's four years since he won a slam though.
