Well, here we are again, another French Open. Yay ! Grin

It's a shame we wont see Murray, as he was playing very well, it would have been great to see the Top 5 'together' again.

No prizes for guessing who the favourite for the Mens is, VAMOS RAFA ! I'd love to see him win it for the 8th time.

Roger Fed is looking well, just started playing , it would be good to see him do well, although we all know Wimby is his best tournament.

Novak seemed to be struggling a bit earlier this year, after the Aussie Open win, it will be interesting to see how he fares this year on clay. Nicely set up so that he and Rafa will meet in the Semi's, should they both play well. Which easily leads to Rafa for the Final, and his 8th win ! Don't forget, Novak fans, that Rafa beat Nole in 4 sets last year. Wink

Serena Williams is looking her usual belting self, just thrashed her opponent, she must be a consideration for the win, as must last years winner, Maria Sharapova. I'd like to see Laura Robson do well, and Heather Watson, but realistically Laura could be out in the first round.

Hope everybody enjoys the tennis as much as I do, I'm going to have a great fortnight, 9:30am to 9:00pm everyday. Bliss !

Looking forward to having our usual daft threads running, along with the ogling and arguments. Here's to another great summer of tennis ! Wine

I thought his mother was weird and a little creepy (thanks to what I read about her in the papers) until I heard her interviewed on Woman's Hour. You're right, PetiteRaleuse; she is fab.

LottieJenkins · 04/06/2013 21:59

IreneR My son is called Wilfred...............Grin

MrsVamosRAFA · 04/06/2013 22:25

That felt really strange today.

I had a feeling Tsonga would beat Roger, it just doesn't feel like Roger can do it anymore, iykwim ? I think it's great that he is still reaching quarters and semis, but I just wonder if he can 'keep up' with some of his younger opponents ? Would be nice to see him do well at Wimby, but I am wondering if we are perhaps seeing the slowing down of the great champ he has been ?

Fantastic for Ferrer, can't believe he and Tsonga won in 3 sets ! Soon the commentators will be moaning that fitness isn't where it should be, because the top players are all winning too easily !

Hope the matches tomorrow are just as quick.

Schedule is : Philipe Chatrier : Jankovic V Sharapova, then Nadal V Warwrinka. Suzanne Lenglen : Kirilenko V Azarenka, then Djokovic V Haas.

I wonder which match we will be watching ? They stayed on PC today, but they may change it. We really could have done with an ITV4+1 so that they gave us a choice of which matches to watch !

Haven't done it yet, but time to bring out the bold...

VAMOS RAFA !

I'm not liking the fact the tennis now starts at 12:30 instead of 9:30. I may have stuff I should be doing, but I'd rather be watching some doubles.

DevlinMaccabee · 05/06/2013 10:35

I'm not loving ITV's coverage of the tennis at all. I really wish they had an interactive option like the BBC.

They have so many channels so not sure why they don't give viewers a choice of match to watch.

Raahh · 05/06/2013 11:31

Devlin- I was really excited at the beginning of the tournament, because it was onall the itv channels- sadly, that only lasted 2 days. Of course, I wouldn't expect them to use the main channel for a fortnightGrin but they do have a lot of 'extras', most of which don't seem to go 'live' normally til evening.

That said- it is better than up to a few years back when all we seemed to get was the finals (possibly the semis) on BBC2Grin

Witt- I know, I've had to cleanShockGrin!

Anyway- I will join MrsV in a VAMOS RAFA - and a plea that it doesn't go on too long, as the dcs have karate tonight, and I have to take themSad.
I quite like Stan though.

Not sure about how the Djoko/Haas match will go- Haas the potential to cause an upset. I have my bingo card ready, to spot how many times they mention 'he's 35, you know' Grin
and again

Raahh I've actually vacuumed this morning, so wrong! House does look a bit nicer though. Thank goodness the tennis has just come on or goodness knows what I would done - dusting maybe!

Vamos Rafa! (of course) and good luck to Haas too. Even though I like Djoko more than I used to, I still always root for his opponent.

And in the women's Jankovic and Kirilenko have my support.

DevlinMaccabee · 05/06/2013 12:38

Yep, another one here with a clean house! Have dusted, mopped, made tonight's dinner, scrubbed the bathroom, two loads of washing, hoovered and a full grocery shop. Shock

Now sitting waiting patiently to watch Shriekapova as I bet that is the match they will show.

Raahh · 05/06/2013 13:36

I really liked Jankovic, when she partnered Jamie Murray at Wimbledon, and won- she seemed very normal. But then I saw one or two of her matches during the Beiijing Olympics, and she was really quite stroppy and diva-likee when she was losing. It really put me off her. I would like her to win today, though. I've never warmed to Shriekaova at all- of course, the noise doesn't helpGrin.

Raahh · 05/06/2013 13:37

Too many 'reallys' , really Grin

MrsVamosRAFA · 05/06/2013 14:39

I'm watching ! What's the betting that because we are all waiting for the Rafa match, they'll switch and watch Novak ?

Rooting for Haas, although the so-called experts earlier (apart from Mark Petchey, who I agreed with for once) said they thought Warwrinka was most likely to cause the upset. We shall see.

VAMOS RAFA !

Raahh · 05/06/2013 14:47

We might be ok- the Shrieky match looks like it might finish first- and that's the court Rafa is on.

Raahh · 05/06/2013 14:48
  • I also think Stan might pull something out of the bag. But hopefully not...
Raahh · 05/06/2013 15:12

Grr. Oh well. And I hate how Shrieky and Serena do the raising their arm things at the end of matches. It's like a sodding Dove commercialGrin

Anyhoo, time to get on with the main eventGrin

Raahh · 05/06/2013 15:13

I also hate the on-court interviews

Witt · 05/06/2013 15:13

I'm disappointed but at least it's Rafa time

Witt · 05/06/2013 15:21

Why are they showing this stupid VT when they could be showing some of the Bahrami match grrr

Raahh · 05/06/2013 16:09

Part of me is glad it seems to be going Nadal's way, and part of me wants Stan to fight a little bit

and now he's broken his racketSad

Raahh · 05/06/2013 16:10

And Djokovic is having an easy looking time too.

Raahh · 05/06/2013 17:18

of course- this all sets up a Rafa/Novak semi final- which will be very stressful. Grin(not written off Haas yet, though...)

Raahh · 05/06/2013 17:35

Haas is at least trying... come on Haas!

Raahh · 05/06/2013 17:36

BINGO! 5 minutes into showing the Djoko match- 'Haas, 35 now...' Grin

Raahh · 05/06/2013 17:45

Well. That's the second time the matches haven't lived up to the hype, really. i expected at least one 5 set thriller.

marjproops · 05/06/2013 18:09

gosh those mena matches were a lead balloon. either Djok/Raf were playing really well or the other 2 just tanked.

I love Stan but he crumbles at the last minute, he seems too intimidated at the thought of whos on the other side of the net. hes okay with the ''lesser'' (for want of a better word) players but when its the big 4, he might as well go home and give them the match.

cant stand shriekapova either, such bad s'sportsmanship' deliberate with the shouting.

marjproops · 05/06/2013 18:09

mens matches. typoMArj again!!!!
