The old thread is nearly full. Nice new shiny thread here.

I'd like to see Eileen take the crown. Aside from having always liked her character, one of the most believable and realistic characters on the Street, I like the fact that she doesn't do publicity, doesn't turn up for the opening of envelopes, doesn't say stupid things to the media and is absolutely nothing like Emily Bishop in real life.

Fanny - yes, Julie (Hayley) wanted to go. It's very sad, but I think they had to kill her off. Would have been the same had David wished to go. Roy and Hayley are so devoted, the idea that one would leave the other just wouldn't have been believable. I have a feeling that this might be the one time when we get something that may rival Hilda Ogden breaking down in tears looking at Stan's glasses.

I have one MAJOR issue with the racism storyline. Why has no one pointed out to Lloyd that constantly referring to 'Fat' Brenda is just as offensive as what Paul said.

What Paul said can be seen as racist but it is clearly a case of not thinking about it. He was not being deliberately and offensively and personally racist, which is obvious when you think he and Lloyd and Jason have always got on incredibly well.

I cannot believe there are two of you that fancy Steve! Go to your rooms this very minute! Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 22/07/2013 11:23

Blush I fancy Steve too. And think Peter is yuck.

RubberBullets · 22/07/2013 11:51

Hands off Steve, he's mine. I staked my claim many, many years ago when I bought a keyring with his face on in Granada Studios

whatkungfuthat · 22/07/2013 12:05

[shoots self]

WireCat · 22/07/2013 16:29

I've caught up. Poor Hayley.

eddiemairswife · 22/07/2013 19:14

I don't fancy Steve but I do love him.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 22/07/2013 19:41

Did you all see that ad?? In between Emmerdale and Corrie? Sonnet 18??

Or did I dream it?!

DesperateHousewife21 · 22/07/2013 19:49

Poor Hayley :(

Peter is v hot but NOT in some of those google images where he's BALD!

BringMeTea · 22/07/2013 19:57

Long time Peter Barlow fancier here. I have been mocked but this thread feels like vindication. The brows, the human frailties, the beard! Agree re Sylvia. I remember her from Tenko as a child. I was more excited at her arrival than Sir Ian's. (tho i loved that too).

Sallystyle · 22/07/2013 20:02

Peter Barlow Grin

Hayley :(

AmIthatHot · 22/07/2013 21:48

Yes, Bringmetea, she was Beatrice, the doctor. Always felt so sorry for her character

And Hayley Sad Sad Sad

Sleepyfergus · 22/07/2013 21:55

So sad for Hayley. And I'm glad she told Roy and Sylvia straight away. Was hoping she would and that we would avoid her trying to act as if nowt was wrong, but being snappy etc etc.

And I love Carla in moments like this, shows a nice side to her character. Not the first time we've seen that right enough. I remember her being really nice to Fizz with all the Tyrone/nutter fiancé (whose name I can't recall right now) stuff.

Anyway, tissues at the ready for the next wee while for Hayley and Roy Hmm

Nugget I saw it

Ellenora5 · 23/07/2013 00:36

Carla was also very good to Sally when she had breast cancer, she cares for her staff, I cried again when Hayley told Carla, and literally bawled when she told Roy and Sylvia, the end scene where Roy was holding her hand, oh no, I'm off again even thinking about it Sad Sad Sad

Going to invest in big box of tissues tomorrow

Tiredemma · 23/07/2013 05:37

OH MY GOD RubberBullets!!

I thought I was the only one.

I loved Steve- My mum went to Granada Studios for a tour and brought me back A KEYRING WITH HIS FACE ON!!

Ive never known anyone else to have a SM keyring!!

Sleepyfergus · 23/07/2013 07:39

Ooh that's right Ellenora, I'd forgotten about Sally and her breast cancer. Yes, Carla was good then too.

Just watched it again and it brought a tear to my eye....again. Sniff!

I almost wish it were Roy leaving to 'explore other creative avenues' or whatever Hayley's reason is, he is a fine FINE actor and the change in his expression, without actually changing his expression, when Hayley told him about her cancer, confirmed what a stunning, authentic, class actor he is.
But just being Roy Cropper for us is fine...

JessicaBeatriceFletcher · 23/07/2013 10:50

Muriel - yes, superb. All three of them last night in that one scene. All so subtle. All so believable. Sylvia going off with "we're going to need a lot of tea". You could tell by the look on her face it was both to give them a moment to themselves but also because she needed to go off and have a cry on her own. Just brilliant acting.

This is partly the problem with Corrie. The younger actors just can't do subtle. All they can do is BIG. I remember when Norris's half brother left Emily on the doorstep to go back to Oz and the look on her face and the way she just brushed away a single tear with the back of her hand. Haunting.

Methinks the awards people may have a hard job on their hands next year between Julie and Stephanie for best actress if last night is a foretaste.

whatkungfuthat · 23/07/2013 12:57

I totally agree, they are like a master class in acting.

squoosh · 23/07/2013 13:21

I cried last night and I hardly ever cry at soaps.

Hayley, Roy, his Mum - all brilliant.

SweetestThing · 23/07/2013 13:50

My eyes leaked when I watched it today. Beautifully understated acting, conveying so much with so little. Watching Roy's smile fix on his face while the light went out of his eyes was just so poignant. This is the kind of writing and acting that Corrie can do so very well.

squoosh · 23/07/2013 14:01

I'm so glad they didn't do that soap thing of concealing a charcter's illness for months on end.

I bet poor old Hayley will die on Christmas Day, I feel a bit upset for Roy just thinking about it.

WireCat · 23/07/2013 15:49

Oh god. I've just caught up. Not crying. Honest.

The next Corrie thread should be for Hayley. Not Peter. IMO.
