Sorry, I had no idea the actress playing izzy had EDS or that the condition affected her face/voice. Apologies for any offence caused and thank you for explaining.

It affects her connective tissue. Veins, tendons, muscles, skin etc, the glue that holds them together is weak.

I suppose they wanted a real life experience of the condition for the role but I bet the majority of the viewers don't know that.

I do think its an odd 'knee jerk' decision made by MN though, a bit severe in the circumstances. I think there are worse comments made on many other threads that should be deleted before the ones on here.

But hey ho, let's it spoil what is a fun thread for most.

Of course we are not being disabling but that doesn't stop me saying she is a shocking actress. Actually she and the one who plays Gary are totally out of their depths with this storyline. Neither can rise to the challenge, they are both awful.

My brother has a very similar condition. He says if she is anything like him, one thing is for sure,she would much rather hear criticism of her acting skills than people making excuses for her because of her disability.

I personally don't feel any of the comments were disablist. Izzys acting is dire, her handing of this story has been terrible. Gary, Anna the same.

I think the script and the whole storyline is so unbelievable that any actor would struggle with it. I don't rate any of Izzys, Gary's, Tina's, Tommys, Anna or Owens acting, are they crap actors or is it the storyline.

They are still better than the worst actor of all Dev, who is so bad he's good v

But Izzy never used to be so wet anyway, she was strong and feisty, nothing like how she is playing the character now, but again that is down to the writing.

I don't care about any of these characters, they don't move me in anyway. They are dire.

Females are affected more than males, everyone with with the condition is affected in different ways, even in the same family.

Clawdy, are you aware of the equality law of 2010?

I used to like Izzy when she first came into it, she was very much one for standing up for herself. It all went wrong when she took Gary back. That entire period where he suddenly joined the army. got deployed to Afghanistan and came back with PTSD and became obsessive about her was very badly done. In fact the whole Anna and Owen / Gary and Izzy thing is just wrong.

I did think it was well known that the actress has EDS though.

Clawdy, you obviously have a lot to learn. It is now no Longer referred to as type three, it is known as hypermobility type and can affect the autonomic system, mitral valve in the heart and GI system it is not just osteoarthritis.

Sorry if you thought we were being heavy-handed. We do take disablist posting (even when unintentional) pretty seriously - as we're sure you can appreciate, it isn't much fun for some of our posters to come across these posts on threads.

If you've seen worse comments made on other threads, please report them to us - the chances are we haven't seen them yet. (We don't see posts unless they are reported.)

I did NOT say it is "just osteoarthritis...." That is the last thing I would ever say. As a family we have lived with members affected by similar disabilities, and what they hate most is being patronised and treated differently. As I said in a previous post,she would probably much prefer to be taken seriously as an actress, than have people being afraid to comment on her performances.

Are you aware of equality law? It gives people with disabilities equal rights, so those with disabilities can not be blocked from all mannor of things, including access to work, interviews for jobs, adaptions at work etc.

Yes,I am aware of it! so please don't patronise me either. Not quite sure what that has to do with any discussion on here.Nobody is saying she should not have the role because she has EDS,are they? Most people are discussing her abilities as an actress.

If the actress's ability to play the role was affected by her condition to the extreme extent you describe,then it would indeed have been odd casting. It obviously wasn't. Which is why so many people made comments about her as if she had no disability. Possibly she might have been pleased by that.

I think Tina has the good grace to apologise when she hands the baby back to his parents. It shows a person's true character if they are able to reevaluate a situation and realise they were in the wrong, then apologise and make it right. So often people are so ashamed by their behavior they attack, go into denial etc, rather than look at themselves and admit they did wrong.

RowanMumsnet - thanks for posting back. I guess the context was that most (I assume, which seems to be case thus far) of the posters were unaware of the actresses condition and having had this pointed out have been able to separate how his affects her aside from her acting skills. I think the thread should have been allowed to stand as it was without any deletions. However I appreciate that individual comments may be inadvertently misunderstood, if the whole thread and context not realised.

Anyway, as I said before (but made an arse of), hopefully we can move on from this and go back to discussing ridiculous story lines and just how white Tina's teeth are.

Wouldn't it be odd if Tina and Tommy had a baby, it was a girl and then in their teens baby girl Duckworth and Jake/Joe got together and their parents all had a big dilemma as to whether to tell them they both came from the same womb even though they aren't genetically related.
