Following on from all the chat about the Thorn Birds on the fancying priests thread in AIBU, I was thinking about all those corny dramas from my youth.

Like Secret Army Me and my mum used to try and remember the order of the roads, canals and railways each week.

Or Tenko. One of the few programmes of the 70s or 80s to pass the Bechdel test.

The Mad Death was the scariest thing ever . I LOVED First Born with Charles Dance, I recently read the book and even managed to find the DVD, fab.

How about The Day of the Triffids?

complexnumber · 25/01/2013 19:49

Zukiecat, we seem to be of an age so vet in the bush was maybe Daktari. Did you also watch Banana Splits with the cartoons? There was one with a character who could change size, "Size of an elephant!" (or mouse) he didn't have a great range.

alcibiades · 25/01/2013 19:52

I loved Tenko, even though the story was harrowing.

Does anyone remember "A for Andromeda" or "UFO"?

PickledInAPearTree · 25/01/2013 19:56

Has anyone mentioned V yet? I loved that liazardy shit.

thixotropic · 25/01/2013 19:58

Edge of darkness? The original series with Bob Peck. And Joe Don Baker. And theme by Clapton.

Raahh · 25/01/2013 19:59

Artful - for years I couldn't find anyone who remembered 'Children of the Stones'- I started to think I'd imagined it. Bet it would be rubbish if I ever saw it again. Just remember a picture with a dragon(?) on it? Scared me at the time though!

Mirage · 25/01/2013 20:01

A Horseman riding by? Anyone?
I Claudius
The Borgias

I confess to borrowing my mum's box sets of Poldark whilst on mat leave.I also wanted to call Dd2 Demelza, but DH was having none of it.

trixymalixy · 25/01/2013 20:02

paddingtonbear1 · 25/01/2013 20:30

Yes, Prisoner Cell block H, when Bea was top dog. My mate and I used to stay up late especially to watch it!

ChateauCollapso · 25/01/2013 20:33

The Brothers, Howard's Way, Bouquet of Barbed Wire, Upstairs Downstairs. Too many others to mention1

ArtfulAardvark · 25/01/2013 20:35

Raahh I had the same "did I imagine it" thought for years when I said to friends about the Jackson 5 cartoon - eventually when one of their singles was re released they had a clip of it in the video Grin

I loved Banana Splits

ohmeohmy · 25/01/2013 20:36

My mum was friends with Leslie Baker who was Monica Ferguson in Prisoner cell block H. She took me to the set when I was a kid and I had signed pics and a vinyl copy of the theme tune.

I have skippy on DVD if anyone wants it Blush

BillOddiesBeard · 25/01/2013 20:39

I remember the so crap they were good (ish) Austrailian soaps in 80's and 90's,some have already been mentioned but my favourites were:
Shortland street
Young doctors
The sullivans
A country practice
Sons and daughters

drmummmsy · 25/01/2013 20:44

anyone said flying doctors?

pissovski · 25/01/2013 20:44

Loved Quantum Leap - and still do. Got the whole set of DVDs!

Remember watching HOuse of Elliot and She Devil too.

Anyone else remember Families. British/Australian cast, mid 90s??

Gingerdodger · 25/01/2013 20:53

I remember when 'Emmerdale' was 'Emmerdale Farm' and used to be on in the afternoon.

I loved 'Tenko' and watched all the repeats a couple of years ago, was brilliant.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2013 20:54

To Serve Them All My Days (John Duttine- IIRC he was in Triffids too)

And one called "Chimera" about a weird laboratory that bred a weird creature.

There was a drama with Charles Dance - he played a scientist who mated (yes, mated) with a gorilla and had a son called Gor. DIRE.

chicaguapa · 25/01/2013 21:01

I remember Return to Eden. I read the book too, though am a bit Shock to see that it was in 1983! I was 11/12 then. What was I doing with such reading material? Hmm Though it would have been around the same time as Lace which I passed round my class

I loved Just Good Friends and Ever Decreasing Circles.

Moonlighting was my absolute not-miss-ever though. If I'd had Sky+ I'd have still watched it live.

Anyone remember Cover UP with Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out For a Hero theme time? The first guy shot himself in real life by mistake so he was replaced in series 2.

70LMNT, "To serve them all my days" was indeed excellent, and the original book was written by the same author as "A horseman riding by".

Tragically, still no takers for the Appleyards.
