Following on from all the chat about the Thorn Birds on the fancying priests thread in AIBU, I was thinking about all those corny dramas from my youth.

Like Secret Army Me and my mum used to try and remember the order of the roads, canals and railways each week.

Or Tenko. One of the few programmes of the 70s or 80s to pass the Bechdel test.

I used to watch was I was little - some cracking wooden acting. Grange Hill - The Early Years.

paddingtonbear1 · 25/01/2013 14:47

Yes, the Onedin Line! My whole family loved that.

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 14:47

Jenna is a better choice than Demelza imo.

There was a Jenna in Blakes 7 too.

Poldark! Me and my sisters love it, Ross and Demelze - see can even remember their names ... at least I think I can - is that right

Also 'Who pays the ferryman?' Just remember great scenery and music

paddingtonbear1 · 25/01/2013 14:48

I watched Jewel in the Crown with Mum, we watched BodyLine as well - had forgotten all about that!
Mum used to like When the Boat comes In, I don't remember seeing much of it though, I must have been too young...

foofooyeah · 25/01/2013 14:48

Demelza even

LemonMousse · 25/01/2013 14:49

Only saw a couple of these - they were too scary for me to watch. I remember one where Diana Dors was an evil Nanny who turned into a snake at the end! Traumatised for weeks!

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 14:49

You are obviously more ancient slightly older than me Talc. Was a bit young for that one.

What was the lunchtime drama which had a big cedar tree as its logo? It took place in a country house, I think.

LadyBeagleEyes · 25/01/2013 14:50

Was 'Who pays the Ferryman' the one set in Crete foof?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2013 14:51

When the Boat Comes In

Duchess of Duke Street (I defy you not to sing the theme tune) Wink

Hassled · 25/01/2013 14:51

Triangle was insane - Kate O'Mara looking more and more like a cat as each grim ferry docked at Felixstowe, glamour capital of Europe.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2013 14:53

Flambards

Love in a Cold Climate / The Pursuit of Love

FollyFoot (aaah The Lightning Tree! Dora/Ned/Steve/ Copper -the horse)

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 14:53

However, I do just remember Anne of Green Gables.

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 14:53

Oh look, with stunning creativity it was name The Cedar Tree. Grin

StephaniePowers · 25/01/2013 14:53

Hart to Hart
Quincy

Were they bad? I was addicted to both.

LadyBeagleEyes · 25/01/2013 14:53

Van der Valk, now there was a theme tune.

Hassled · 25/01/2013 14:54

Sometime in the late 70s I was obsessed with the BBC series about Lillie Langtry. I think being the Prince of Wales' whore was one of my first career ambitions.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 25/01/2013 14:54

70 I loved the Flambards. How about the Flame Trees of Thika?? That was good in it's day too :)

LemonMousse · 25/01/2013 14:54

Talc I remember Tom Brown's Schooldays and other Sunday afternoon adaptations of literature like Heidi, A Little Princess, The Secret Garden etc. because I am ancient and we only got a colour telly when I was 10

TalcAndTurnips · 25/01/2013 14:54

Yes, Mardy - I'm sure I'm a little further down the path to decrepitude than you. Grin

Mater used to swoon over - but he never did it for me.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2013 14:54

Triangle had a very young Larry Lamb (long before he was Archie Mitchell)
And a very young Johnathon Scott Taylor (Omen 2)

IWorshipSatin · 25/01/2013 14:55

Juliet Bravo - I blooming loved it

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 14:56

Juliet Bravo rocked.
