Following on from all the chat about the Thorn Birds on the fancying priests thread in AIBU, I was thinking about all those corny dramas from my youth.

Like Secret Army Me and my mum used to try and remember the order of the roads, canals and railways each week.

Or Tenko. One of the few programmes of the 70s or 80s to pass the Bechdel test.

I used to love 'The District nurse' with Nerys Hughes- proper dull Sunday night tellyGrin

and yy to 'Nanny'. Wendy Craig seemed to be everywhere at one point.

I also used to watch 'Flamingo Road'- similar to 'Falcons Crest', really rubbish. I remember it disappeared and was only shown really late at night.Grin

Ahhh Within These Walls

Googie Withers -remember her?

Raahh · 25/01/2013 17:32

St Elsewhere was great- but it ended in a really odd way, iirc. It was all supposed to have been in the mind of the autistic son of one of the doctors. Or something. Very strange indeed.

Talking of medical drama- I really liked Chicago Hope. I've always had a soft spot for Mandy PatinkinBlush

Haven't read the whole thread so excuse if this is a repetition but for me and DW it has to be Just Good Friends - it was a will-they/won't-they? cliffhanger when watched it first time around but it hasn't traveled well in time....

Oh I used to like Just Good Friends. Agree it was very much of it's time, though.

I thought I was the only person in the world who remembered Triangle grin Bloody loved it. No box set and I can't believe it's because there wouldn't be a demand

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 25/01/2013 18:10

We have said The Thornbirds, Dallas and Dynasty haven't we?

There was a drama with Charles Dance - he played a scientist who mated (yes, mated) with a gorilla and had a son called Gor. DIRE.

SamuelWestsMistress · 25/01/2013 18:16

Eldorado!!!

bigbuttons · 25/01/2013 18:19

stephaniepowers I remember that 70's prog about rabies too. It was really really scary. I still have horrible memories of that rabid man cowering in the corner of a room!

LadyMargolotta · 25/01/2013 18:19

Oh that series with Charles Dance and the gorilla was fantastic. I've just googled it and I think it was called 'First Born'.

DillyTante · 25/01/2013 18:25

Has no one mentioned House of Elliott yet? Classic!

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 18:28

I loved the French and Saunders "House of Idiot" spoof.

MuddlingMackem

Thank you so much! Smile I have found one (Question Of Command) on Amazon but can't see any others. Do you know the titles/author? TIA Smile

Kithulu · 25/01/2013 19:27

There was something set on island, just one house. Three sisters, bit spooky. Possibly steph powers or kate o'mara. Really can't remember, but it has been hovering in my memory for years. Anyone help?

ArtfulAardvark · 25/01/2013 19:37

The childrens one that gave me nightmares, but I am fairly sure would be pretty lame now was Children of the Stones

Bajas · 25/01/2013 19:38

kithula think it might have been maelstrom? Did one of the sisters have loads of freaky dolls in her room?

Also loved the miniseries- first born, Bangkok Hilton and Return to Eden all brilliant rubbish as well as the Sidney Sheldon (Master of the Game etc) and Judith Krantz ( Till we meet Again etc) ones.

Spent so many nights in the 80s watching them. But my absolute favourites were North and South and Kane and Abel Grin
