Following on from all the chat about the Thorn Birds on the fancying priests thread in AIBU, I was thinking about all those corny dramas from my youth.

Like Secret Army Me and my mum used to try and remember the order of the roads, canals and railways each week.

Or Tenko. One of the few programmes of the 70s or 80s to pass the Bechdel test.

Ooooh Yes "City Lights".

(He went on to play a right evil scrote in Brookside)

discorabbit · 25/01/2013 21:18

i remember really liking flambards and nanny, probably right naffola now Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2013 21:21

I didn't see the original "Bouquet of Barbed Wire" but I did waste a couple of hours of my life watching the remake Hmm

"Sense of Guilt" by the same author was brilliant.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/01/2013 21:23

"State of Play" - tense political thriller my arse.

House of Cards- Frances Urquart. "I couldn't possibly comment"

Bajas · 25/01/2013 21:31

Ooh yes chicaguapa loved Cover Up- especially the first guy. Random useless fact- the actor was playing Russian roulette with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker in Star Wars) when he shot himself.

Loved House of Cards as well.

EbbNFlow · 25/01/2013 21:35

So many already mentioned. Loved staying off sick from school and my granny letting me watch the bad US and Aussie soaps:

Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Country Practice, Young Doctors, The Sullivans, Sons and Daughters, Shortland Street.

Loved Howards Way, Eldorado (shite!), Juliet Bravo, Dempsey and Makepeace, The Gentle Touch, Cats Eyes, Albion Market and loads already mentioned.

Others that spring to mind:
Me and My Girl
Rockcliffes Babies
Just Good Friends
Dear John
the cack daytime soap Families, with a very young Jude Law.
Brush Strokes
The Two of Us
Childrens Ward on CITV

Loved loads of US stuff - Moonlighting, the Cosbys, Different Strokes, Family Ties, Whos the Boss, Laverne and Shirley, Kate and Ally...

tethersend · 25/01/2013 21:39

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but does anyone remember Wish Me Luck?

Drywhiteplease · 25/01/2013 21:40

Ooh I'm a latecomer but loving this thread....

I adored Poldark....was in love with Ross Smile
The Duchess of Dukestreet.........cried when Christopher Cazanove died recently, not Charlie Sad
Loved Tenko....fab
The Rockford Files.......used to pretend Jim Rockford was my Dad Blush and was pleased to see him in the Notebook

boogiewoogie · 25/01/2013 21:46

I do not recognise a lot of these apart from Knightrider, Sons and Daughters and anything from the 80s.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Sunset Beach.

Autumnchill · 25/01/2013 21:51

Has anyone mentioned Lace?

Kithulu · 25/01/2013 22:05

Thank you Bajas I have been watching you tube clips!

TalkativeJim · 25/01/2013 22:07

Sunset Beach has been mentioned loads Boogie!

Wasn't there a good twin and an evil twin, and I remember an episode with the evil twin shutting someone (good twin?) tied up in a wardrobe with a two-way mirror so that they could bear helpless witness to whatever evil deed was being undertaken Grin

HART TO HART though!

'This is my boss, Jonathan Hart. A self-made millionaire... He's quite a guy. This is Mrs. H. She's gorgeous. She's one lady who knows how to take care of herself. As for me? My name is Max. I take care of both of them. Which ain't easy, because when they met... It was MURDER!!'

Doo-noo noo noo, doo-noo noo noo...

Grin
ButTheButtons · 25/01/2013 22:18

Ahh...The House of Eliott. Love it hence my username!

Anyone remember Manimal?

And an American detective series set in a male modelling agency?? I swear that's true!

Sorry with Ronnie Corbett

Robin of Sherwod was brilliant!

BestIsWest · 25/01/2013 22:30

Another latecomer but so many great shows. Three of my faves.

Rumpole of the Bailey

A very Peculiar Practice

Nice Work

When the DCs talk about which superpower they'd like to have I always say I'd like to jaunt like the Tomorrrow People. Ooh and I met Mike Holoway from the Tomorrow people when he was in Flintlock.

ChateauCollapso · 25/01/2013 22:38

Sunburn with Michelle Collins. One of the characters was called Hugh Janus. More recently Wild at Heart. Du Plessis when he went to die on the rock!

ButTheButtons · 25/01/2013 22:39

The Red Hand Gang!

Fame

Gems (I think). Had a young Tony Slattery in it...

HintofBream · 25/01/2013 22:39

Yes, BestIsWest, Nice Work, from the novel by David Lodge, with Haydon Gwynne and Warren Clarke, a great adaption.

What about those Sunday tea time serialisations of "The Treasure Seekers" and "The Railway Children", well before the Jenny Agutter film was made.

ozymandiusking · 25/01/2013 22:59

Does anyone remember a series on in the 70s about the same time as the Cedar Tree, about a woman and two men in Australia riding about on horseback. It was called something like Tamarara. I really liked the Cedar Tree, I painted our dining room the same shade of green their lounge was! ( I don't think I would use that colour again!)

CadleCrap · 25/01/2013 23:08

Does anyone remember a scifi programme called The tripods?

Galaxymum · 25/01/2013 23:16

I got the dvd boxset ofChildren of the Stones in November to rewatch. It was ver 70s but a great story. DH watchrd 1st time and enjoyed it.
I loved Tenko, my fave drama. I watched it far too young considering the issues.
Red Hand Gang was fab! i had a crush on Matthew Laborteaux. Also loved Kids Of Degrassi Street.
Anyone remember By the Sword Divided? very swoonsome young Tim Bentinck from The Archers. And I was brought up on Poldark. Great story.
Howard's Way was fabulous and so cool in the 80s. Loved Connie with Stephanie Beacham Nd Widows.
Also The Flame Trees of Thika with Hayley Mills was a great memory. Holly Aird played her daughter.

AlreadyScone · 25/01/2013 23:36

Pleased to see a few mentions for "The Tripods" and "Day of the Triffids." pant-wettingly frightening, as was "Threads" which we watched in school at the insistence of the hippier teachers. I still have nightmares about melting milk bottles...

I watched a fair few miniseries at a stupidly young age - Mother Love, with Diana Rigg as an Elektra-complex banshee-wailing MIL, The Men's Room with Bill Nighy as a philanderer, and The Singing Detective by Dennis Potter.

In my early teens I had a love affair with "The Golden Girls." I wanted to share their apartment. Loved "Cheers" too.

Can anyone help? As a small child in the 70s I remember a lunchtime family drama, the credit screen showed a sepia photo on a mantelpiece, of a family, including a girl with long brown hair (sorry to be vague) it's probably been mentioned...

AlreadyScone · 25/01/2013 23:37

Ooh what about "Labyrinth" not the ace film, but the ITV series? All very dramatic...

threesocksmorgan · 25/01/2013 23:37

Tenko was so good
the brothers
and what was the one set in Australia with a preist

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 23:39

Oh it's come full circle. The one in Australia with the priest was The Thorn Birds, as mentioned in the OP.
