Following on from all the chat about the Thorn Birds on the fancying priests thread in AIBU, I was thinking about all those corny dramas from my youth.

Like Secret Army Me and my mum used to try and remember the order of the roads, canals and railways each week.

Or Tenko. One of the few programmes of the 70s or 80s to pass the Bechdel test.

I vaguely remember the drama series The Newcomers, I know we used to watch it as a family, but can't for the life of me remember any storylines.

I remember us all being riveted by Roots.

Remington Steele
Moonlighting - with it's "will they, won't they?" sexual tension.

I couldn't watch Roots, I can never watch things about slavery as it makes me too sad.
We haven't mentioned Crossroads yet, have we, with Meg Richardson, Miss Diane, Benny and Amy Turtle who always forgot her lines.

EldritchCleavage · 25/01/2013 16:50

Oh, God, I got called Kizzy at school because of Roots. Drove me mad.

Ilovemyteddy · 25/01/2013 16:55

Blake's 7's Avon (actor Paul Darrow) can occasionally still be seen as a judge in Law and Order UK. And Vila (Michael Keating) sometimes turns us as the vicar in Eastenders.

Anyone remember an Aussie series called The Flying Doctors? The lead actor was Robert Coleby who was lush (I had a MAJOR crush on him.)

riveroise · 25/01/2013 16:57

Elritch the rotter with blond hair in Chancery was Simon Sheppard who was also inPeal Practice.

I remember Maggie, and her Plumber dad opening a shop selling loo rolls and other plumbing supplies. She had a posh boyfriend.

What about Robin of Sherwood! Both Micheal Praed and Jason Connery to gaze upon. Smile

riveroise · 25/01/2013 16:58

Sorry Peak Practice

EldritchCleavage · 25/01/2013 17:00

I don't remember Roots but I do remember the children's TV show clled Kizzy about a Romany girl who gets fostered, or maybe adopted, after her Grandma died.

paddingtonbear1 · 25/01/2013 17:06

I remember The Flying Doctors.
Kizzy was one of my fave tv dramas as a child. Also The Flockton Flyer, about a railway restored by a family. Apparently you can get it on DVD, bet it looks v dated now!

Early Casualty. Very shit. I know it was meant to be groundbreaking but I just watched a clip and it was kind of poor, wasn't it?
(Don't watch it any more so it might still be...)

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 25/01/2013 17:13

I do rather like having StephaniePowers on this thread. It feels quite fitting.
