Following on from all the chat about the Thorn Birds on the fancying priests thread in AIBU, I was thinking about all those corny dramas from my youth.

Like Secret Army Me and my mum used to try and remember the order of the roads, canals and railways each week.

Or Tenko. One of the few programmes of the 70s or 80s to pass the Bechdel test.

Ohh Bergerac! With the map of Jersey on the title sequence!

I also remember the Life and Loves of a She-Devil - Patricia Hodge as the mistress, Denis Waterman (yuk) as the prize the women fought over, Julie Thingy as the main heroine and some horrible grunting sex scene with Tom Baker playing a priest... (we're back to the sexy priest thread now aren't we)

My mother had a very short haircut and we called her Servalan. Plus we had a playhouse/shed in the garden and drew screens on the wall and pretended it was the Liberator spaceship, with Zen the computer.
I had a crush on Avon because he was so stern, but he ruined it by going all smiley in the Amex advert shortly afterwards.

Oh and Monkey has to get the prize for worst dubbing.

I was just thinking Prisoner Cell Block H on the school run. That was so funny.

And what about the original version of Survivors from the 1970s.

Pickled yes! couldn't remember her surname.

Took me a few mins to place Patricia Hodge when she turned up as Miranda's mum. She's aged quite well actually (Life & Loves must be about 30 years old)

There was a drama with Charles Dance - he played a scientist who mated (yes, mated) with a gorilla and had a son called Gor. DIRE.

And something in the 70s about rabies, scared me shitless.

Little House on the Prairie was always disappointing compared with the books. Didn't like The Waltons much either.

Oh Bunbaker. The Tomorrow People with the opening credits of a hand opening in shaky stop motion and the "jaunt" belts they used to teleport. If it wasn't for the 70's haircuts, the white bellbottoms (so futuristic!) and the dodgy sexual politics I'd be campaigning for it to come back.

Has anyone said Charlie's Angels yet?
I used to love it, but I'm sure I'd dismiss it as patronising sexist shit now.

"Once upon a time, there were three little girls who went to Police Academy..." Wtf!

Monkey, and The Water Margin! I loved both of those. My best friend still watches Monkey, the saddo.

Anyone else sit glued to Chancer, with Clive Owen? Who was the rotter bloke with all the blond hair?

The Newcomers anyone? Actually there were two series called this. One was a soap set in a Midlands new town, the other was an early reality programme set in Bristol following a family who had recently moved there. Something to do with marking the start of the regional TV station. The main female was a girl I was at school with. (FWIF)
