"It takes a special kind of evil genius to take an elegant supermodel and make her look like a sack of potatoes"

Motherofcleo (you aren't welsh by any chance?) I agree that DVO was the best dancer. Even DH says her showdance was the best dance he'd ever seen. I danced professionally in my younger years pre DCs, and I can tell you that that level of dance is very, very difficult. I couldnt have done it.

But I wanted Louis to win because I think his progression has been the best. He is not from a performing background as such, and he just appealed to me.
both DVO and Kimberley say they are not dancers but I know Kim's dance teacher and have contacts with DVOs theatre school. They have had years and years of dance training. It does give them a head start.

ilovesooty · 24/12/2012 01:15

Motherofcleo I loved Denise and James...and James and brenan are my favourite male pros too.

ilovesooty · 24/12/2012 01:16

Brendan...I mean

zamantha · 24/12/2012 08:13

DVo I agree did not have support but they both seemed annoyed whenever they did not get the votes and DVO was so OTT when she was waiting to hear her fate every week. KW was in bottom 2 but did not feel personally attacked by it.

It is probably that James and Denise just wanted it so badly, they were fiercely competitive, did everything for the win and when they did not get it felt robbed.

They did enough to win. It was just Louis' show dance had such charm.

zamantha · 24/12/2012 08:14

Also Craig wanted Louis so gave him a 9 to pull in the sympathy vote Xmas Wink

captainmummy · 24/12/2012 08:41

I think Denice and James was robbed - she is clearly the best dancer! Louis obv got all the old lady votes (oooh look at that boddddeee!Did you see that gladys - I'm spending my 15p on him!)

And claudia looks like she's on deugs - the hair, the eyes, the pallor...

captainmummy · 24/12/2012 08:43

'Drugs' - that should be! Deugs are even worse

ItsaTIARA · 24/12/2012 09:41

I don't vote ringers, never have. If you want to vote for the best dancer on the show then that's completely understandable and your choice, but my personal choice is to vote for someone who has learned to dance, rather than a dancer who has learned a new style of dance (also entertaining, but I prefer to see it in a show of its own; So You Think You Can Dance).

Of course where you draw the line between a bit of stage school background and full-on dancing as part of your career is a fuzzy line. Personally I didn't vote Denise, Kimberley, Rachel or Emma. I think I'm not alone in that, and that's partly the explanation for the perceived "anti-female bias" - far more of the good women have dance training - the only man who I can bring to mind was Tom.

DowntonSprouts · 24/12/2012 10:21

Think that's the problem Tiara people saw that Denise was good from the beginning and knew she had appeared in the west end.

They felt her protests of "I'm not a dancer" to be a bit ingenuous. Years of dance training do not necessarily make you a dancer but it also means they are not starting from a level playing field.

However Bruce's comments to Louis about "next step the royal ballet" are equally foolish as 10 weeks of dance training can never get you to the level for that. People train for years to get there and I thought it was a stupid thing to say.

I also think the public don't take things at face value anymore. There's been the backlash against the X Factor because so many contestants were ringers. No body walks in off the street never having sung before and gets discovered. I'm thinking of people like Leona Lewis who also went to stage school. Years of vocal training. The boy and this year (3of them can't remember the name) who met at "school" and formed a band. The school was a theatre school but they don't tell you that.

digerd · 24/12/2012 10:43

Downton
That's when Darcy remarked that Louis did not have the necessary arch in his feet to become a ballet dancer. Apparently Louis now wants to find a girl-friend . Good for him.

DowntonSprouts · 24/12/2012 11:25
Xmas Grin
Wingedharpy · 24/12/2012 12:57

But it's not a level playing field anyway is it?
Yes, those who have had some dance and performance experience and training in their career will have an advantage.
But also, those who have youth on their side are also at an advantage over the older contestants as the oldies don't necessarily have the energy levels of the younger folk (obviously there are exceptions to this).
Those who are physically very fit have an advantage over those who have led a more sedentary life.
Those who are slim and gorgeous have an advantage over those who are less so.
Those who have an outgoing and friendly personality are at an advantage over those who are a bit more private and introverted.
It's all very entertaining and not to be taken too seriously IMHO.
And I love Anton and think he gets paired with the less able contestants because he is a gent and does it all with such good grace and humour.

cocolepew · 24/12/2012 13:09

I noticed yesterday that Pacha is bringing his show to Belfast and wondered about getting tickets. Now I know I could meet him I'm definitely going! He might want to think about a restraining order .

Pantomimedam · 24/12/2012 13:13

If Claudia can't see, why the hell doesn't she wear glasses or contacts, the silly mare? FFS.

Pantomimedam · 24/12/2012 13:16

I saw Darren and Lilia live - after dinner entertainment at a conference. I was sitting at the centre front table and they were within inches of me. They were fantastic - it was so thrilling. But I was also struck by how little she was wearing - a bodystocking with a few spangles at strategic locations. I have Never Ever seen a woman in public with so little on, including Greek beaches where people go topless! Every man's tongue was hanging out...

RedTinsel · 24/12/2012 14:37

Anton gets the duffers because he can only do ballroom. He covers up his poor latin with the comedy routines. He's always standing at the back of the pro routines, unless it's a ballroom one. Plus he's the only one game enough to do it. Can you imagine Artem or James putting up with the shit comedy routines like Widdy did?

AndiMac · 25/12/2012 20:42

Anyone else watched the Strictly Christmas special? Quite good fun, and helping me with my withdrawal symptoms from the main show. Plus Bruce isn't so bad when he's pre recorded and has a chance to get the autocue and his jokes right.

FrankelcenseAndMyhrr · 25/12/2012 20:48

I thought all of them were overmarked for the Christmas Special Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 25/12/2012 21:06

Generous marking indeed, but then it doesn't matter so much does it? Craig was a bit harsh on Bobby I thought. I would have liked to see Rod relegated to the back of the stage with professionals dancing in front of him and the showdance at the end to be slightly longer but minor niggles. Bruce was OK wasn't he? We were discussing him as a family and concluded that the problem is that the way he carried on hasn't actually changed much from when he was younger (the 70s was when we all watched the Generation Game) but it is out of step with what is expected today, ie the little digs and put downs, the catch phrases, the overlong jokes, the all about me jokes, it hasn't stood the test of time. We went to see him on stage when I was little (I barely remember), DF said he spent an hour at the end taking questions from all us children and was lovely. I have also heard a tale of him spending hours with a very sick child fan at Christmas totally incognito or something along those lines. In fact I might have heard that on one of these threads (last year?)

ItsaTIARA · 25/12/2012 21:49

Helen's marks were very much "Christmas Special tens". But generally speaking it was fun, and lovely to see the old faves back even briefly.

AndiMac · 26/12/2012 08:37

I loved at the start with Darcey making fun of herself, giving Len tips on turkey carving, telling him to show of his beautiful necklace and extend his arms, yah?

RedTinsel · 26/12/2012 14:05

I enjoyed, the marking was very seasonal though.

Nice to see lovely Ian back, 'it's a travesty... Etc'

HalleLouja · 26/12/2012 15:05

I was happy to see Ian back. They could bring Matthew, Darren and Lilia all back. Then I would be happy.

FrankelcenseAndMyhrr · 27/12/2012 21:10

Just seen on Twitter that Brendan's wife gave birth on Christmas Day. No name, but best wishes to them all Grin
