I am beside myself with excitement. here - who's putting the contacts in? Is that Carrie in a disguise? Any one else agog?

OP posts:
firsttimemama · 10/12/2012 23:19

I could sit corrected then - Good research Hazel - Have you got a wall like Carrie?

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan · 10/12/2012 23:33

Lol at carrie's wall.

I agree that scene with Nazir and Carrie last night was mesmerising - utterly brilliant, 'hundred years, two hundred years, we will eliminate you' or whatever he said.

Just fantastic acting as per.

I still love Saul's lovely face. I saw Mandy (Maaaaaaandy) in Criminal Minds the other day, he looks so different without a beard.

He can't be a baddy. He just can't. I wouldn't be able to cope.

bunchamunchycrunchycarrots · 10/12/2012 23:55

Something has been bugging me about last night's episode - Estes went to phone someone when everyone had left the team 'HQ' to go and find carrie/nazir, and I think we are to assume he was phoning the VP as they had a lead on Nazir. But, if Estes has a hit on Brody via Quinn once Nazir is eliminated, why would the VP have Brody as his running mate if Estes is working to protect the VP? I don't get that. Whoever Estes was calling is the one pulling the strings - and that makes me think Estes is the mole/in cahoots with Nazir.

difficultpickle · 11/12/2012 05:51

I think Estes is a baddy too, not least because he is a British actor (unspoken rule in US tv is all baddies have to be British). I missed Sunday's episode so I'm looking forward to seeing it tonight. First time I've missed a Homeland episode ever and it sounds as if it was one of the best.

gypsyfloss · 11/12/2012 07:02

I watched it again last night...obviously I have no life Grin

I cringed at the " our friends in the secret service have reached out to us" from the minder to Brody about Finn coming over. what a wonderful piece of management speak.

Perhaps Estes was on the phone to the president , the ultimate baddy who so far has never been seen or heard.Or what about the ex soldier with the horses who pledged his support for Brody? Was he just a plot device to show how Brody's loyalty was being tested and his internal conflict?

besmirchedandbewildered · 11/12/2012 07:04

buncha I think we're supposed to think Estes made the call to get Saul stopped so Quinn could go on alone

HalleLouja · 11/12/2012 07:16

I am assuming the mole told Nazir who unlike Saul looks better without a beard that the serial number was in the study somewhere.

Naughty Estes.

If you look at it Estes, Brody and Quinn are all played by British actors none of them are particularly pleasant.

AdesteFiderer · 11/12/2012 08:02

It was a great episode. I like the way they still have unexpected happenings, I don't care about implausibility - anyway as someone said, I reckon what does go on would Shock us more.

The NY Times bit was probably just a passing reference to the pacemaker being in his office with the exercisey thingy. Wouldn't take much to find out about them for those in the know and with evil in mind Grin

Brody standing by and watching Walden die - wow. For some reason I didn't think Nazir would act immediately with the plan, but logically he'd have to in case Brody interfered.

I also didn't think it would be Nazir himself who held Carrie but that made it more powerful. Not sure about their conversation - I thought it lacked something but I think I'll watch it again Xmas Grin

Estes would have to authorize various task forces so the phone call may have nothing to do with the mole. Talking of whom, Galvez back? He's still my no 1 suspect.

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan · 11/12/2012 08:10

Isn't it a bit strange that such a high profile US drama has 3 brit actors playing the roles of americans?

And the ghastly Roya, supposedly english, is played by an american.

I wonder if they speak ib their normal accents suring breaks in filming and confuse the hell out of everyone.

I love the actor who plays Estes, his voice is beautiful. He did the voiceover for a brilliant documentary series last year (Welcome to Lagos, absolutely excellent if you haven't seen it) and I didn't realise they were the same person til a few weeks ago.

GetorfsaMotherfuckingMorrisMan · 11/12/2012 08:18

I thought personally that they would make more of the Carrie Abu Nazir meeting - she has been obsessed with finding him for years, so for her to finally meet him in person would have been a huge moment I thought.

Mind you I suppose it was a huge moment - he just slammed into her car at high speed.

Wouldn't that crash have KILLED her if it happened in real life.

(Shut up getorf, it's not real life)

diddl · 11/12/2012 08:32

I´m not sure if Estes is a baddy as in being the mole-but think that he is still trying to cover his arse re the drone strike.

Anyone else seen ep11 yet?

AdesteFiderer · 11/12/2012 08:54

Yes, and cha about letting Brody become a Congressman and VP contender while being a terrorist. That's why they want to kill him as soon as they can.

Sitting on my hands not to watch ep11 online.

diddl · 11/12/2012 09:28

I still can´t decide if Carrie really loves him-he was/is a terrorist!

HalleLouja · 11/12/2012 09:31

I thought she was just playing him diddl now I am not so sure.

FloatyBeatie · 11/12/2012 09:38

She's very needy. I don't think she would let a spot of terrorism hold her back.

Anyway, he didn't actually do any terrorisming in the end, except for the absolutely lovely heart hijack of the VP, who deserved it.

He's done a lot of cold-blooded killing, but only when he was quite upset.

NeverFullyDressedWithoutAScarf · 11/12/2012 10:10

Is it wrong that I am enjoyin this thread almost, in some ways, more than actual Homeland??! [hmmm]!! I do love it, but think it suffers by following The Killing (which I think is knocking it into a cocked hat this series) and from following S1, which I thought was one of the best things ever. I couldn't bear it if Saul turns out to be a baddie......I have loved him since Criminal Minds Grin

firsttimemama · 11/12/2012 10:34

Estes was phoning security to stop Saul leaving the building. (I think he does not want him interfering with whatever Quinn has to do). Surely Carrie is playing Brody - she can't seriously see a future for them. And btw Damien Lewis says he stays in accent all the time when on set .

AdesteFiderer · 11/12/2012 10:43

Grin at "quite upset"

Never I really enjoy the thread too.

I do think Carrie loves Brody. When she interrogated him and said about him not being a baddy at heart, about the Brody at the cabin, that's the one she fell in love with. I do think she believes that and hopes that the AG and CIA stick to their immunity deal and he'll be free. She must know though, that the CIA are unlikely to let him walk free.

I foresee Trouble with a capital T.

donnie · 11/12/2012 12:08

I also love - and need - this thread! I am a bit obsessed with Homeland so it is a good way of giving vent to my obsession withough people in RL knowing Grin.

So....here are my predictions:

-Estes is also black ops and he and Quinn are tasked to Save Nasir and Kill Carrie. Quinn's covert mission is to ensure Carrie dies as she Knows Too Much.

  • Saul realises this and has a mighty showdown with Estes - he somehow gets away and goes to he warehouse
  • Brody locates the warehouse and goes in (not sure if armed)
  • in the end Brody is faced with the dilemma: he can either kill Nasir to save Carrie OR kill Carrie to save Nasir. And as we all know he loves them both.
  • Nasir has wired up the entire place to a massive load of explosives as well as a suicide vest. He is waiting for optimum spooks presence before detonating.

Christ I am sending myself mad with this speculation....any other offers Grin?

BOFingSanta · 11/12/2012 12:23

Oh God, I couldn't bear it. I think I'd prefer a Christmas Special where Saul declares peace on earth, dons a red suit, tools up in an Airforce One sleigh, dropping gifts on children's schools across the Middle East with Carrie and Virgil as his elves. Abu Nazir and Brodie realise that we are all brothers under the skin, and go wassailing together with Will Ferrell.

FloatyBeatie · 11/12/2012 12:25

Or: Nasir's beard is a double agent (notice how we never saw Dar Adal's beard till after Nasir's beard had gone awol), and the mole turns out to have been hiding in Saul's beard all along. Basically it all turns on the beards.

Tamoo · 11/12/2012 12:30

I'm still on the fence about Saul's true allegiances.

He was present at or immediately before the suicide of two prisoners (the terrorist guy in S1 and the American woman traitor in this series).

He had Carrie chased off the premises just before Walker shot that woman/Brody went in to do his suicide bomber thing. In fact everything Saul has 'believed' or done has corresponded with keeping Brody operational, from a terrorism POV.

Abu Nazir has somehow got into the US from Beirut - where Saul was recently stationed - maybe Saul helped him?

He's in a bit of a tizz about Quinn's presence and the fact he doesn't know what Quinn's there for.

He sacrificed his marriage for his job when surely he is approaching retirement age, so is either fanatical about working for the CIA or fanatical about something else....

AdesteFiderer · 11/12/2012 12:30

OK BOF, but you know you'll wake up. Dana will be twitching with her fingertips, Finn will look lost, Saul will clutch his hat, Estes will give someone A Look, Quinn will receive The Look and go somewhere (preferably clothed), Virgil and Max will solve it all but no one will listen, Carrie will make a Wall and cry a little bit (take the goddam pills, Carrie, here's some white wine), Brody will move his mouth at 95 rpm and Jess will shag Mike.

And then where will we be?

FloatyBeatie · 11/12/2012 12:30

I've only just realised that Dar Adal is Salierii!! Doh! I knew his prissy eating in the cafe reminded me of something -- Salieri and his greedy choc-nibbling.

That changes everything. Basically he is just jealous of everyone and wants them all dead, beards or no beards.

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/12/2012 12:34

Brody will get Presidential nomination.

Nasir and CIA types will all back off because each will think he is their man and can be controlled because of what they know about him.

Carrie will be fly in ointment.
