I'm so excited, the new series starts next week Grin. Link

OP posts:
Jux · 03/10/2012 08:22

Having seen them being made, I did say to dh that he was lucky I didn't have a mould like that or I might actually try to do it. None of us like the packet tea cake thingies (well, if I needed a sugar rush and they were there I'd scoff them!) but maybe home made ones would be nicer? My curiosity would get the better of me and I might have a go, just to see.

I suspect I'd make a pig's ear of it though. Grin

Jux · 03/10/2012 08:24

Mind you, I'm interested in the scallop biscuits. Never come across them.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2012 08:50

Well that WAS good last night i'm in france; it's an hour later (that's my excuse for falling asleep during the teacakes Blush bit! At last Cathryn's gone! talk about delusions of grandeur with her Buck house gingerbread thing which looked like a puff of wind could've knocked it over.

Did anyone else think that Sue was indeed VERY sorry to see her go Grin.

Poor old salty dog's lovely eyes are almost invisible due to the GBBO induced fat andd his temper seemed a bit grim Grin. I can see James's attraction now he's not nervous any more but he should whiten his teeth; pleased he was star baker. Still DANNY to win!!!!!

expatinscotland · 03/10/2012 09:45

I think Paul fancies Danny! He gives her lots of intense stares with his icy blue eyes. Lucky Danny!

NettoSuperstar · 03/10/2012 09:46

I get to see him soon, I can't waitGrin
He's lush.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/10/2012 09:51

I did fancy those scallop biscuits.

I think there is a frisson between Paul and James, but that may be the effect of all that innuendo on my weak little brain!

I loved all Mary's facial expressions this week. She never says anything awful but you can see what she's thinking! Grin

VikingVagine · 03/10/2012 09:51

James to win I think.

Still don't 'get' Danny.

Have to admit Catheryn was annoying towards the end acting like a little girl is fine, when you're a little girl, not so much when you're in your 20's but I think she'd reached the end of her skills for now and was ready to go.

Still love Brendan!

I noticed john's apparent nakedness under the apron next week. The hussy!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 03/10/2012 09:55

Oh, I like Danny. She seems very calm - you can see she'd be good at her job.

I love Brendan too.

I squealed at naked John ... DH had no clue why. Blush Grin

wintera · 03/10/2012 10:02

I thought those scallop short bread thingies looked very nice too. Now that is something that I would actually have a go at. I know loads of people who make gingerbread models at Christmas. Usually houses, and they usually put the pics up on Facebook. I've never done it myself but my 7 year old daughter loves gingerbread so I might have a go at it this year. Would be a nice little project to work on with a child too I think.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2012 10:03

I will have to watch the repeat on Sunday did they make the scallop biscs.? looked like shortbread in shells to me (then i fell asleep).

Cathryn was VERY annoying I don't envy Sarah Jane working with her.The way she looked at salty he's lucky to be alive. he's a dad of 2 BTW!!

No i certainly don't love Brendan; his gingerbread house was somehow (I know I'll do something to appeal to all the birdbrains who watch this prog.).

NettoSuperstar · 03/10/2012 10:10

The book of this series has a gingerbread house in it.
DD and I are going to make it at Christmas.
I've tried three other things from it, the first two weren't great but the third was.
I'm really not a good baker but I refuse to admit defeat!

awaynboilyurheid · 03/10/2012 10:18

OH I liked Catheryn! she was wanting to prove that she was talented and I think she really was, TV should sign her up she would be great. Like the others too but James is my fav they are all so talented, who makes their own crackers!! thats wot shops for and who knew a cooking programme was so exciting!does anyone think Brendan may go berserk with the palette knife if he doesnt win? if you think this is birdbrain tv try downton abbey really is that it? not sure what the fuss is, you can see plot from miles away.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2012 10:31

No away i don't think it's birdbrain T.V. I love it and think it's an amazing progamme actually I was getting the feeling from Brendan (and I may be totally wrong it's just his manner that he thinks he's better than the programme and it's viewers).

hiviolet · 03/10/2012 12:13

When James said he was going to turn his barn into a derelict barn I thought it was going to be awful, but it actually looked fantastic. A little bit of genius! The sugar cobwebs were brilliant Grin

VikingVagine · 03/10/2012 12:26

I think Brendan's comments are more meaning he's old and he knows it!

Badvoc · 03/10/2012 12:28

Don't like Brendan...al his stuff is a bit 1970s but not in a good way...those icing birds were hideous!!

outtolunchagain · 03/10/2012 12:39

pp that's exactly the feeling I get about Brendan , he almost acts as if he is giving his own master class when he is explains his "techniques" on camera .He has made a number of quite cutting "dry" comments as well .He looked very cross when James won the technical bake again this week.

He is very good at what he does ,but for me all his bakes look like the technicolour pictures in my mothers Marguerite Patten book from the 1960s.

James by the way has a girlfriend according to his blogWink

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 03/10/2012 12:40

God I hate Brendan! I bet he's an absolute pita to be in that kitchen with!

I loved Cathryn!

Badvoc · 03/10/2012 12:42

Yes! Of course! That's what his stuff reminds me of!
Marguerite patten!!
I liked Cathryn.
She was quirky and fun.
Think it's between Danny and James now.

squoosh · 03/10/2012 12:57

I LOVE Brendan. He can't help it if he's streets ahead of everyone else.

I don't see any mean looks from any of them when the star baker thingy is announced. One of the reasons I like GBBO is becaue it has a lovely warm atmosphere, they all seem to genuinely get along.

There's no way James will win. None. Sweet as he may be, he's just not that good a baker.

It is between Brendan and Danny.

squoosh · 03/10/2012 13:00

Plus I bet James has a knitted Fair Isle willy.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2012 13:39

Squoosh Brendan's baking is not perfect and he should have the humility to admit it. DANNY to WIN!!!!!
outtolunch YES!!!!!!!
Ihopeyou agree with you about Brendan but not Cathryn who was good but a there was a touch of entitlement about her as well.

Kopparbergkate · 03/10/2012 13:42

Can't stand Brendan and couldn't stand Cathryn - I'm sure she cuddles kittens in her spare time etc etc but girl-women simpering with squeaky voices just make me stabby.

The bit (last week or the week before?) that showed her reaction where she was doing her "it's so awful, it's so awful" schtick and Paul told it actually was, was absolutely PRICELESS tele tho'

I want Danny to win, but fear Brendan will. I think he is probably a better technical baker than her but his stuff just looks soooo old-fashioned. Despite the fact I think his stuff's technically better, I aspire to make hers... If that makes sense....

squoosh · 03/10/2012 13:48

Yes, I can't breathy voiced, 'poor ickle me' faced grown bloody women. I'm sure she's nice enough, but that malarkey makes me want to put her in the oven with her bloomin' cakes.

Danny is competent enough I suppose but she's just a bit . . . . .meh . . .for my tastes.

If John was a bit better he'd be my favourite. He does a good line in witty asides.

I see that the multi coloured Zara bomber jacket has sold out since Mary was seen wearing it on GBBO last week. Good for her 77 year old self being a bit of a style maven.

wem · 03/10/2012 17:40

I think they're all great. It was quite fun trying to work Cathryn out. I'm sure she had no idea that she would come across as she did. John's my favourite telly person, not sure if I have a favourite baker, though I'd like to see Danny win.

Brendan is good telly too. James is very sweet, but a little bit dull.
